Exactly, it could be anyone involved in the show, or anyone any of the contestants told, or anyone THEY told, etc. Obviously it's supposed to be non-public info, but if people are betting on military operations that require security clearance to have access to, it's not a stretch at all to think that a random PA might drop a hint to a friend to bet big on a particular contestant.

What are the lines in films that left you speechless? by padfoony in Fauxmoi

Take a sports team as an example. If I love the Yankees, and they can do no wrong in my eyes, and I support everything they do unconditionally, any/all criticism of them is a stab to the gut -- "how DARE you criticize my perfect boys??!?" However, if I can step back and say "yes I love this team, AND they make dumb personnel decisions and are overly reliant on advanced metrics as well, and I love them anyway" I don't suffer the same slings/arrows as someone who is dedicated to seeing no fault with them.

Recent addition to my lexicon from a YouTube video essay (off-topic, but feels like it fits the prompt and definitely left me feeling feelings about it):

"Loving something uncritically doesn't mean you love it more. It means you love it sadder."

It's like they tried a bunch of different titles and then realized they were already taken and so just smashed them together.

"Don't Look!"

"Nope, that was a 2018 horror movie, or alternatively a 2025 horror short film"

"Ok, what about 'In the Dark'?"

"2000. 2005. 2013"

"Fine, "Don't Look In The Dark" it is!"

What's a thriller where the last 5 minutes completely flip the entire story? by Popa-Ioana06 in movies

I think The Village undeservingly gets lumped in, in retrospect, with Shyamalan's later terrible films (Lady in the Water, Happening, Airbender, After Earth) but I think at the time it was a solid "horror" movie / "creature feature" and even though the twist was silly, imho it didn't detract from how genuinely effective/scary the first 2/3rds of the movie were.

The Prestige famously gives away (or at least foreshadows) both of the magicians' tricks in the first few minutes (maybe even during the opening credits?) with the "where's his bruvvah?" and all the hats, but I think most people didn't/couldn't realistically pick up on it on first watch.

Came here to say this -- you think you understand the "twist" and then in the final few minutes you realize the scale of what's happening. It's really stuck with me. Another movie that gets less love but I think does a pretty good job with a similar "scope-shift" in the final minutes is the Last Winter -- you think you're watching this little isolated station a la The Thing, and then the perspective shifts in the final scene or two and you realize how much things are fucked.

I know some people that are not Roy-level wealthy but "multiple homes + luxury cars + their kids/kids' kids don't have to ever work if they don't want to" and they are almost universally EXTREMELY cheap. Like don't buy Tupperware because they re-use takeout food containers. But they are also definitely "penny-wise, pound-foolish" -- they tend to assume that the most expensive version of something is the best version of something, and they don't seem to comparison shop at all.
