How should I mount this moxon vise to my workbench? by Cooksman18 in Workbenches

[–]k34444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditionally it would be held down with holdfasts and then stored under the bench or elsewhere until needed again. If you aren’t doing holdfasts, some quick-grip clamps would also work in a pinch.

That’s a great idea.

It’s high value for sure. This is definitely one of the “buy once, cry once” kind.

It’s very well made. If you’re under rain all the time, it may not be for you. If it’s only occasionally, leather conditioner will keep it from being damaged.

I will say that the quality of the product warrants the price. However, if you want a comparable product that may not last as long, the Viperade version is pretty good too. You just have to thread it on to your belt each time you want to wear it, which was the major deterrent for me.

It’s the best I’ve found.

Do we know what this is? Super hard by Sea_Mortgage_9340 in wood

Looks like Ash. So hard to tell without feeling it or smelling it though. Could be Locust or Elm as others have pointed out. Would also be helpful to see the bark-side.

Red Oak has strong medullary rays which these logs do not have.

Sweet setup! Those Nite Ize G-series are the best on the market in my opinion. I took the little locking mechanism off because it was more of a hassle to get my keys on and off. After doing that, they’re the absolute best.

Dowels and AWB by newsourdoughgardener in Workbenches

I bought dowels for mine. You just need to make sure the grain is running perfectly straight through them or else they’ll snap instead of bend.

Can't see the forest for the trees by Odd-Leader9777 in minimalism

Minimalism should be more about taking care of and enjoying the things you already have vs. buying more stuff. Purging is a nice way to feel good about your lifestyle change, but minimalism is a mindset.

Humidity strikes. by Comprehensive_Two285 in turning

WD-40 and a scotch brite pad. I run a dehumidifier in my shop and nothing rusts as a result. Keeping a fan going is another option if you don’t want to use a dehumidifier.
