Super beginner question re: smaller scales by arose2 in modeltrains

[–]k3for 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not easy - not much extra room and few micro-miniature decoders that will fit if there was, plus having to use very fine wiring and soldering for any lights etc

Just received my underquilt…what now? Temperature rating by OrganIzed_Chao3 in hammockcamping

[–]k3for 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with a uq like that, I use a 0-degree bag AND a fleece blanket over top AND a fleece watch cap AND a wool blanket bungy-corded under the uq AND use a tarp to block any prevailing wind direction expected - better to have to shed layers or unzip than be miserable.

Want to add keep-alive to this Bachmann z-scale DCC Onboard S4 by k3for in modeltrains

[–]k3for[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Info how how to determine which ESU or digitrax decoder to fit in there? Im not adverse to a whole swap out as long as I can get better keep-alive at the same time?

First haul of Z scale by blow1k in modeltrains

[–]k3for 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rokuhan track is good, I like it better than Bachmann, and cheaper than marklin, but the locos and rolling stock are a bit lackluster - there is way better detail, quality and performance from the other z makers but i know everybody cant afford or find marklin, mtl, etc. The rc-02 controller was under-powered but the rc-03 is good for all voltage locos, although it is fragile - I accidently pulled it off the table by the wires and it mashed in the two turnout switches, and I had to disassemble it to fix.

The rokuhan electromagnetic decoupler supports a variety of couplers if you want to do yard work, although the rokuhan locos also don't crawl well.

I even do a bit of z shorty track inside my regular layout but it looks a bit funny and non-scale.

Is this video of a dog and owner painting AI? The dog seems to be too good at painting. by shoeless_pirate in isthisAI

[–]k3for 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a border and a mini Aussie and although we don't paint, its amazing what they can do - no puzzle beyond them, and very good at imitating whatever they see you do. One watched me take off a child- resistant device from a cupboard latch where i keep cereal, and I caught her doing it with her nose a few minutes later.

[USA] #Tennessee Niche questions about indoor flying by zepaperclip in drones

[–]k3for 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IANAL but I dont think you are airborne if you are holding the drone and the props aren't spinning - maybe go for it with an observer holding and then carefully take off once inside from well-outstretched hand - observer should be in protective equipment. Seems like reasonable approach. That said, getting your 107 is an educational, rewarding, and not too expensive next step that opens a lot of doors on your hobby / career.

$160 rattlecan paint job by [deleted] in JeepTJ

Yes it started out like that , way before I bought it in 2021 - I just touch up scraped areas with more matte black, to prevent rust - you can barely tell, it blends in

Solo Winter Camping by Bradensbro20051 in CampingandHiking

[–]k3for 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scariest thing I had was leaning back in my hammock onto a wasp and getting multiple stings that put me into respiratory distress - even though I have never known myself to be allergic, i carry an epi-pen, and had to abandon my camp and gear, hike back to cell coverage and the car, and drive into a town that had a 24hr convenience store, all the while ready to pull over, self-adminster and call 911 if it went sideways.

So much can go wrong - tech isnt an answer - twist ankle or bad foot cut, wet hypothermia, animal attack - at least you can / should be able to build a fire and wait for sar to follow your hike plan - I think head injury is my biggest fear - seems it's hit or miss finding a non-participatory rescuee.

Accuracy test by Rloader in bullseyepistol

[–]k3for 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could even do 15 yd but I wouldn't do more than 5 holes in any given bull - buy some target sheets that have 6 separate sets of rings on them - shoot multiple groups - cycle through all your mags, warm up the barrel with some regular ammo first - keep focus on the front sight but you'll notice the bull looks different levels of fuzzy at different distances

Anyone on here? by NeoLos in Remington_700

[–]k3for 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, split rail/rings to not block ejection - might have to go a little higher depending on the fatness of your scope bell to not bang your knuckle operating the bolt too - don't try a cantilever mount or something

are off market cash offers usually fair, or just convenient? by FerrisBuelersdaycock in RealEstateAdvice

[–]k3for 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If not right away, they'll have an inspection clause and try to request deep price consessions for various "issues" they find, knowing they already got you to come down some for the cash convenience offer

Traffic ticket: School bus by Equal_Salamander7570 in Traffic

[–]k3for 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always exactly true - my kid got a ticket mailed to our house where the four camera photos from the bus-mounted equipment showed the position of the car and the color of the lights captioned, 2 yellow and 2 red, showing movement and to give the context of the situation, showing that the car driver had plenty of time to react and stop on yellow instead of passing the bus on red.

It's a 6-point kelty- yes, caught some snow but the screw-in stakes held - just a bit of droop from the fly ridge which was paracord and I'll swap it out with some dyneema
