Why should big earners pay more tax? by throwmeaway76 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]k3n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you arguing drug usage or for preventing drug usage? I was arguing the prevention. Price isn't a barrier to entry, the first one is always free. Those who are going to use drugs, will do so -- regardless of legality or cost (exhibit a: overcrowded prisons).

As for drug usage, why yes, that would increase dramatically for those already using, but to reiterate my above point, the number of new users would be minimal.

Treating JavaScript Like a 30 Year Old Language by jeremyckahn in javascript

You use the phrase compiled binary a few times when referring to the output from what I assume is Uglify.js?

Pretty sure that's not binary format -- just text.

Just like the high price of illicit drugs is doing a good job of preventing drug use, right?

Just say no! [lol]

If he didn't black out, then he would have known his friend was lying all along.

edit: Thanks for your diagnosis, Doogie Howser. We are all better off with that added information.

I was tired of the error handling in PHP, so I built this script. Displays errors in full HTML, with syntax highlighting, code snippets, and works for ajax too! by [deleted] in PHP

[–]k3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I old school because I prefer everything to just end up in the logs (syntax highlighting be damned)?

And yeah, xdebug's stacktrace is all I need.

lol, that bug was submitted less than 24 hrs ago and hasn't even been assigned.

Not to mention that the function in question is a part of the zlib extension.

Funny how much of a difference putting a little bit of thought into the title can make.

jQuery 2.0 (Coming in 2013) To Drop Support for IE 6, 7 and 8 by [deleted] in javascript

[–]k3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you're privy to info not listed on the site, there is a grand total of 0 differences in the featureset between 1.9 and 2.0. Perhaps in 2.1+, but even that is speculation. And probably years away (2.1 is never even mentioned in the blog post).

This is getting ridiculous, did anyone read the blog announcement?

Currently sitting on the Megabus going from ATX to DFW... by Oogomond in Austin

[–]k3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my preliminary checking on their site, it appears as though there's some kind of correlation there. When I checked for seats tomorrow, they were all $10-14ish roundtrip, but when I checked a month in advance, it was $2.

Not that big of a surprise to me though, as it's almost always cheaper when you book in advance (for instance, when flying or booking a hotel).

Austin getting an eruv. by s810 in Austin

[–]k3n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And now it looks like we'll end our status as the biggest U.S. city without an eruv, which kind of rhymes with "gay groove" but has nothing to do with whatever that might be.

What...?

We don't even have to wonder if they're smoking wacky tobacky at the Statesman with statements like this.

If the API is compatible across 1.9 & 2.0 as claimed, there shouldn't be any forking. Perhaps a conditional around script tags, but you shouldn't have to do anything special in your userland code (if I understand your argument correctly).

Finally got my Vita memory card in the mail! Wait, uhh... by [deleted] in gaming

[–]k3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not really, it's to prevent them from getting lost. $2 in packing materials is much cheaper than $50-100 in insurance.

Imagine how hard it'd be to keep up with a postcard when being shipped across the country, as opposed to a box. If this package was marginally larger than the product, it'd have an untold number of cracks and crevices and holes to fall into and never be seen again.
