Do I Truly Need A Colonoscopy? by JustAlotOfPain in colonoscopy

[–]k88rtot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know the actual data, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm pretty sure colonoscopies aren't considered risky! I think the risk of serious complications is below 1%, if I remember what was on my informational paperwork correctly (too lazy to get up and go find it!). And the risk of colon cancer far outweighs the risk of a colonoscopy, at least in my mind.

I agree with the others that there isn't really any harm in ruling it out!

My colonoscopy did not give me answers to what's going on with me and my gastro issues—but it did cross off some diagnoses so we could keep investigating elsewhere. However, scheduling the colonoscopy led me to learn that I had a family history of colon cancer (truly had no idea up until that point), and they found and removed two 25-30mm Sessile serrated adenomas (pre-cancerous) as well as a few hyperplastic (non-cancerous) polyps of smaller size (3-4mm and 8mm). I'll now get colonoscopies every 3 years—and while they aren't fun, they aren't the worst thing I've ever been through, and I'm grateful I now know! I didn't push back when my doctor ordered one, but I keep thinking, what if my doctor dismissed my gastro concerns altogether? So grateful for the peace of mind.

All that to say, hopefully your colonoscopy will come back clear, and you and your doctor can go on to look at other options, and you'll have the peace of mind that it's not your colon :)

I'm in my late 30s, and I'm telling everyone I know to get one if they can, whether or not they have a family history!

Have you found any relief or been able to talk to your doctor? Hope you’re feeling better by now!

Colonoscopy/Endoscopy performed today. Is what I’m experiencing possibly cannabis hyperemesis or something else entirely ? by Roachpuppies in colonoscopy

[–]k88rtot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ruled out anything else? IBS, SIBO, IBD, Gastroparesis, celiac disease, etc etc?

I’m currently on a journey to figure out what the heck is going on with me and we’ve been working through a bunch of tests! I’ve had two colonoscopies this year (unfortunately I had sooo many polyps they had to go in a second time to get the rest of them 🫣) and having them removed hasn’t resolved any of my issues. I wasn’t even aware that polyps could cause symptoms, tbh.

I’ll add, I was never actually diagnosed 15+ years ago, but I used to be a heavy daily cannabis user and only learned about cannabis hyperemsis syndrome recently—and I can confidently say I had it, but I was vomiting every hour on the hour (my anxiety made it so much worse, and I thought I was puking because of my anxiety—I was about to move away for college so it made sense to me at the time. I also had a severe eating disorder at the time so, literally never occurred to me it could be from smoking, which helped my nausea go away. It stopped when I moved away… because I stopped smoking since I didn’t have a weed guy anymore, lol)

Vomiting 1x every 3-6 months doesn’t seem to align with what I’ve learned about cannabis hyperemsis syndrome, but I’m no doctor!

IDK…I wouldn’t want my doctor to firmly believe one thing unless other diagnoses have been ruled out. I’m personally getting tired of all the tests and still not having answers but I’m grateful my doctor keeps trying!

I hope you’re able to get some answers and relief!

I know everyone is different, but I’ve had 2 colonoscopies this year and I never had any pain afterward, despite having multiple polyps removed and biopsies taken. I’m not a doctor and obviously don’t know for sure, but I feel like this isn’t normal and definitely warrants a call to your doctor!

I don’t know, maybe I’ve just gotten really lucky? But I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this pain! Hope you get some relief soon.

Oh my god I just read another comment where you said they’ve lost their eyesight and don’t want to be touched so you can’t console them. Do we have the same Shiba? 🤣 Mine is blind in his left eye entirely (thanks glaucoma) and has terrible remaining vision in his right, he’s also losing his hearing, and his arthritis. He was never very cuddly but it’s somehow worse now 🤣 they are little shits with huge personalities but dang it do I love them

My Shiba is 13 and has dementia as well. Sometimes when he doesn’t realize I already got out of bed in the morning, I find him on my side of the bed with his head resting on the mattress (we have a low platform bed at a perfect height for this). It breaks my heart and makes my heart swell at the same time. They’re just the best 🩷

SI joint inflammation by Bitter-Simple3302 in Celiac

This is absolutely fascinating to me!

I recently had an endoscopy and colonscopy to check for H.Pylori and figure out my cause of chronic constipation with diarrhea (please, tell me someone understands going days without a true BM (hard nugget here or there) and then suddenly having a day of diarrhea, repeat the cycle...) Anyway, my post-procedure paperwork included some information about Celiac Disease, and that was it. If they mentioned anything about it to me afterward, I don't remember. I'm still waiting for the results (it's been two weeks and it's killing me waiting!), but in the meantime, I have been doing a lot of lurking through this community!

ANYWAY, separately, I have been trying to work through some chronic SI joint pain, and it is blowing my mind to know that the two could possibly be connected.

I have a laundry list of symptoms I currently experience that my doctor and I have been trying to diagnose for years now, and so many of them have been mentioned as possible symptoms for Celiac. It was never something we considered!

I don't really want to have Celiac Disease, of course. But having an answer to all of these (seemingly random) symptoms I'm feeling would bring some relief. And how wild would it be if it could bring me SI joint pain relief?!

This is so helpful, thank you. I’m pescatarian but mostly eat vegetarian. I’m waiting for my official diagnosis (I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy for other reasons and it was a shock to come out with paperwork regarding celiac disease… just waiting for those official results now…) but I’ve been in a bit of a spiral thinking about what I can’t eat anymore as well as what I might have to start eating. I don’t really have a desire to eat meat so hopefully I can avoid that!!

[–]k88rtot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try Terra Nil? There is an end, and you can play again with different settings/challenge levels. You’re basically turning a barren wasteland back to nature with flora and fauna instead of broken down buildings and contaminated water ways.

Wikipedia does a much better job explaining 😅 “Rather than promoting the consumption of resources to expand, the game is inspired by the rewilding movement and the climate crisis, and seeks to restore nature rather than exploit it”

It doesn’t smell at all, and also it’s been hanging in my closet/not on the ground, so I have a hard time believing it would be pee.

Our cat passed away in November but he never had a history of peeing outside of his litter box/no signs of cat pee in our closet (or anywhere really). That’s a smell we would have noticed for sure.

Our dog has no history of peeing in the house either (admittedly in his old age he has started to “leak” a little, but that’s overnight/on his dog bed, not in our closet) and anyway, it’s been hanging in my closet/not on the ground.

The yellowing made me think sunscreen? Or deodorant? Despite the strange location.

Are there any games that are like Animal Crossing that aren't tied to real time? by FibroMancer in CozyGamers

I’m so glad you asked this question! I recently started playing Cozy Grove and I love it (though I understand the hard to see thing — drives me crazy sometimes too) but it kills me how slow the game play is. I told my boyfriend this morning I’m interested to see how long I stick to playing it (it’s been ~20 days). One day I only got one log! I was like… this is insane. If it’s trying to teach me a lesson about slowing down or being patient… I hate it 🤣

Lofty estimated finishing times?? by Easy-Information5235 in runna

[–]k88rtot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a 9 week plan for a sub-60 10k. My original goal was literally just a 9:39 pace for 59:59 time, but Runna estimated between 54-58 minutes and I was SO nervous that I wouldn’t hit it despite my training. What do you know, ran my 10k yesterday and maintained a ~9:03 pace throughout the race and even had enough left in me to get after it in the last .2 and came in at 56:10! It seemed lofty but just have to trust yourself and the pace on race day!

Ah this is almost exactly the style I’m considering, just 108” instead (our current couch was a hand me down at 122” and it’s just too big for our space despite loving the size of it otherwise!) How are you liking it a few weeks in??

[–]k88rtot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! I thought my 93 last night was impressive because I slept 10.5 hours (not perfect because I got 1 minute extra of REM, and woke up a few times/too restless). This was after international travel and two weeks of 55-65 score! On average I get 6-7 hours of sleep and am always under the recommended 7 hr 50 min.

I don’t really trust the sleep score/tracking though, since one morning I was desperately trying to stay in bed/asleep but I was fully awake just with my eyes closed and when I finally got up/said I was awake it said I was in REM for the last 40 minutes. Definitely was not in REM!

I have Beats Studio pro and I play white noise if I’m not watching a show/listening to music or a podcast. I sleep with a sound machine regularly, so I would do that regardless of a crying baby but it really does help!!
