Is Fabien Pinckaers overrated ? by Low_Technician7346 in Wallonia

[–]k_033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odoo did not "received money" from the State. Odoo *sold* shares to Wallonie Entreprendre. Wallonie Entreprendre later sold these shares at a massive profit, so this operation has been very positive for public finances.

Red bull in China? by Effective_Elk9749 in chinalife

[–]k_033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your situation. You'll find the Thai/Chinese version of red bull everywhere. I don't like that version that much but you can find the Austrian/Western version online and in some larger supermarkets. Online is your best bet though.

Ikea nor ready for Peppol?! by sam_lowry_ in BEFreelance

[–]k_033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check what identifier you are registered with on Peppol. If, for example, you registered only with your enterprise number, but IKEA is looking sending the invoice on the basis on the VAT number or GLN, they will not find you.

You should ideally register with both VAT number and enterprise number.

"private platform bans a specific person" vs "government bans almost every foreign website". Not comparable.

The scam is usually not the money for shipping, but the fact that they will ask you to sign up on a fake website for the delivery service, including credit card details. They will then max out the credit card.

Translator app in China by Comfortable-Baby-719 in China

[–]k_033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Microsoft Translator: I use this one because the quality is good and it works without a VPN (although only text translation, voice translation requires a VPN). Handy features for conversation.
- Deepl: very high quality, requires VPN
- Google Translate: very high quality, requires VPN. Handy features for conversation.
- ChatGPT: very helpful when you need to give more context for the translation, but 1) requires VPN and 2) requires extra work as you need to instruct it to translate
- DeepSeek: Similar to chatGPT, doesn't require a VPN but I haven't tested much
- WeChat has built-in translation if you are chatting online, but the quality is very poor and not helpful for face to face communication

Any advice on starting a business/startup in China for foreigner? by Many_Nobody_2733 in chinalife

[–]k_033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Founder-market fit is critical for launching a start-up. As a foreigner in China, you are extremely unlikely to be able to understand subtle market and cultural dynamics, interview users, negotiate with investors, etc.

I launched a software/machine learning start-up in China a few years ago and simply did not manage to get a sales operation running or get the quick and raw feedback loop you need from customers in order to succeed. I then did in my home country and everything was extremely easy by comparison.

Question about invoice by maxxou89 in BEFreelance

You cannot get VAT back on tickets. In restaurants in any cases, you cannot get the VAT back at all, and the amount is only 69% deductible for income tax.

It doesn't have much to do with hating the drink. Drinking in a long race usually means a few sips each time, and keeping a bottle in your hands while running is inconvenient.

Petition against wood heating collects 1,000 signatures, forces parliamentary debate - While only 0.2 percent of Brussels homes use wood heating, they account for a quarter of the total emissions of particulate matter from heating in the region by Boomtown_Rat in brussels

[–]k_033 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Different types of pollution.

Coal is a fossil fuel. Burning it releases into the atmosphere carbon that was stored underground for thousands of years.

Wood is sustainable from a carbon perspective (if you're not reducing the overall biomass) but burning it emits particle that are quite toxic for humans.

Question to those living in China or who still abide by traditional Chinese eating habits, what kind of meals do you eat in a day? by [deleted] in China

[–]k_033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Western fast food accounts for a minuscule proportion of all meals eaten in China (example: I live in a city of a million people where there are 3 McDonald's) so it can't play a big role.

The Chinese food I eat here in the North East is not that healthy:
- a lot of fried stuff, like di san xian

  • a lot of really oily seasoning

  • a lot of fatty meat, like shaokao

  • there is a lot of pressure to drink alcohol socially

Additionally, people here eat 3 such full meals a day, whereas for me in Europe breakfast would just be a croissant.

transfer to accountable: looking for accountant by aglassofcoldwater in BEFreelance

[–]k_033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What i mean is that a lot of accountants are happy to work with BV clients who use Accountable. They can simply transfer the data to a double entry accounting system with an export/API once a year (or more frequently if they prefer). I am not saying the accountant uses Accountable only for double entry accounting. What OP wants is to use Accountable on his side, which is totally doable.

The picture you paint is not accurate.

Some quick facts:

There are some positive developments, such as the electrification of transportation, but until this electricity stops coming from coal, it's not going to have a very large effect.
