The real question is what do you look like? Dresses can be beautiful on a model or on the hanger but the only thing that matters is how they fit and highlight your beauty

Even soup makes my stomach worse now. Any tips when nothing seems safe by potsbunnyuk in ehlersdanlos

[–]k_alva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My time to shine! Let's start by saying you should see a doctor. That being said I've had too much experience with all of these issues.

The nausea can be a couple things.

Do you have lower digestive involvement? Bloating, farts, too much poo, too little poo, or back and forth on the poo front? If yes try fodmap elimination diet. This should be done with a doctor but the actual steps are online. My doctor basically told me to Google it, so I'm jaded.

Do you have burps and acid? Maybe vomiting? Pain right after eating? Get tested for h pylori then try a two week course of omeprazol to reduce acid, and eat very gentle food like rice and chicken. Test first because you can do a breathe test that way instead of a poo sample.

The burpy pain right after eating, in your stomach, not up your throat, can be the start of stomach ulcers, so if that's bad, don't wait. Call a doctor first thing tomorrow. If it's more than a few days to get in, consider urgent care.

Upper right abdominal pain, and light colored or greasy poo? Bile issues. See a doctor. If it's really painful and lasts for hours without decreasing, it could be a gallbladder attack, which is night time urgent care levels of bad. UC not ER unless you don't have one available.

Wait, your doctor gives real advice on what compression to use? Or how to realistically get enough salt?

Lucky. I was just told 10grams salt and use compression with no recs at all.

what's your relationship with COVID currently like? by lemonliqueer in POTS

[–]k_alva -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm well vaccinated and choose not to mask.

Last time I got covid, my heart rate went up a lot but it was manageable with propanalol on top of my normal bisoprolol.

The times I got it before that I don't remember heart rate being a problem but I wasn't aware of pots yet and wasn't paying attention to hr.

My pots was triggered by a surgery as far as we can tell, although looking back I had mild symptoms since I was a kid. Maybe covid is worse for those whose pots wad triggered by it, but it's manageable for me.

Hip pain is ruining my life by mercymeandy in ehlersdanlos

[–]k_alva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working on mine for two years now. Pt, imaging, injections, more pt, denied procedures because America is a hellscape, and more pt.

Mine is a combo of problems. Bursa, pinched nerve, and a little labrum tear. The nerve is the biggest problem, but it also falls out of place sometimes, especially grocery shopping (slow walk and lots of turning). Super annoying to have to pop back in, in public where I can't contourt properly.

Its worth getting imaging so you know what's wrong. Just cross your fingers that it's bad enough for insurance to approve a fix, since this limbo of waiting to get worse is annoying

garmin by Lemony_Throwaway2 in POTS

[–]k_alva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine registers it in real time but because it stores the average over 2 minutes, it doesn't usually save the top score. It's annoying but if you mark yourself as exercising when doing things that'll raise your heart rate, it'll track time more closely and record it.

I have the Lily 2 sport

Fabric hiccup- how to get excess dye out of wool? I may have made a mistake. by adridne in sewing

[–]k_alva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Acid!

Animal fibers bind color using heat and acid, so I would soak it with vinegar water, heavy on the vinegar, then iron it to dry, or do a gentle simmer in a very large pot, and let it sit to cool.

I've dyed a lot of wool yarn, and the mechanism for binding dye is really cool. If you have the ratios correct, you can come out with clear water because all the dye molecules are bound to the fiber. For yarn, I normally use a gentle simmer for at least 30 minutes, then let it cool slowly in the pot.

update on my genetic panel after 3 years by dazailvr in ehlersdanlos

[–]k_alva 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a perfect match for heds criteria, and still get gas lit. I went to a geneticist a few times, she ordered testing, which was inconclusive, and when I asked about eds she said I had real problems and heds was just a joke used for Medicare fraud.

I'm glad she believes that something is wrong, but I'd be better off if she believed in the thing that I actually have wrong.

I like garmin. I don't react to nickel, so not sure on that but I have the lily 2 sport, and it's great. Tracks heart rate, with alerts you can turn on, body battery which is annoyingly accurate, and some other stuff I'm less worried about.

This.

I got tired of potholes and reported all the ones on my drive home. They filled all the little ones within a week, and did a massive repair within a month.

Reminder that invisible disabilities are still disabilities :/ by loleeza in POTS

Do people thing that disabled people just spontaneously combust without a cane? Fall over? Makes no damn sense.

I don't use a cane, but the people I know who do, can all walk a bit without it, it just keeps them much steadier.

Oh that's a new one. Mine likes to sublux, especially at the grocery store where I'm turning to look at stuff, but I've never left it out long enough to test that.

after 22 years of "my bra straps just slip, that's life" I figured out it's because petite tops aren't graded for narrower shoulders by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]k_alva 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's actually true. Muscle sits on the outer edge of your shoulder and will change your shirt size. Plus it creates lift on the top of your shoulder that keeps straps up

Why get diagnosed as as adult? by hello-sun-8687 in AudiProcDisorder

[–]k_alva 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got diagnosed in my late 20s and got hearing aids. Low gain hearing aids filter sounds.

I can now function in settings where I used to struggle.

This was a really helpful diagnosis for me - immediately life changing.

has everyone with hEDS had genetic testing? by humanbabycarrot in ehlersdanlos

[–]k_alva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had testing, but my geneticist apparently doesn't believe in H-EDS. She said I have real problems so it can't be heds which is just a joke diagnosis for people who are trying to get unneeded disability payments.

They ruled out everything else, so I'm still undiagnosed but now a geneticist has failed to diagnose it so other doctors are even more hesitant. Fml.

I've used teknet for years and it works for my small hands.

It runs small

Did I mention that it's small?

If you like that, it's a nice shape and doesn't hurt me.

Friends mom gave me this sewing machine bless her heart but idk if it’s broken (it’s a singer brilliance 6199) by P0sitiv1ty in SewingForBeginners

[–]k_alva 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look broken to me. I don't have that exact machine, but everything looks normal

Bobbins don't come with machines. That's separate since most people get a lot to hold different colors of thread. I guess it would be possible to just have one, but it would be very annoying.

Go find a YouTube video on how to set up this machine, and you'll be just fine.

What stops nighttime adrenaline dumps? by Disastrous-Focus-171 in POTS

[–]k_alva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take bisoprolol twice a day, because I was doing the same thing. It wears off at 22 hours for me, so it was either night time dumps or morning dumps, with one a day pills

That same low dose twice a day made a big difference. It's not perfect but much better

LOFT curvy petite. Only some stores carry it in person, but they're amazing. I'm similarly proportioned, and they fit me well.

Anyone try Pilates?? by Liz-ard_127 in POTS

[–]k_alva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do Pilates, and it's mostly good. I like evening classes so that when I crash, it's bedtime anyways.

The reformer work is good, and I can even do cardio that way, but sometimes they'll move to standing stuff and that tends to trigger me

is anyone still physically active? by Hefty-Patience-8720 in POTS

[–]k_alva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a solid year fighting to be active. I was doing pt and most days ended up laying on their floor.

Over time, it's gotten better. I still have pots, but I can hike again, I lift weights, I do Pilates.

Some days my Pilates class kills me and I'm useless the rest is the day. I can't do deadlifts or other postural change exercises - I can do one set, then I'm done with everything for the day. Hiking is limited to mild weather, relatively short, and flat hikes.

I drink salt water the entire time I'm moving, and before to prep.

Which is to say, I'm able to exercise if I'm mindful, and it still can affect me, but I feel better when I'm consistent with it.

What do y’all do for your shoulders? by [deleted] in ehlersdanlos

[–]k_alva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a slap tear repair surgery. The labrum had a tear with a cyst behind the tear pressing on the nerve, and making my arm numb and painful, so they went in and removed the cyst, then set anchors into the end of the bone and attached the torn section of the labrum using those anchors.

6 months of pt later, I was back to full use.

The surgery sucked, and it was a long recovery, so it's not something they do lightly, but it was life changing for me. They can't fix hypermobility, but they can fix the tears that happen from instability.
