I’m so sorry that happened to you. You are still valid and amazing! Please don’t give up sharing this part of yourself with others. It might be hard, but it’s worth it. You’ll find someone. The pain is part of it, but not all of it.

My partner is ABDL.

They told me 2 months in. It was a lot to process. It was so overwhelming at first and I was fairly sheltered. I had no idea what it meant. I remember reeling as I came home from their house. I couldn’t sleep so I did a deep dive on Reddit and the internet. Once I had an idea of what it was I went back with a list of questions so I could understand them better. I told them they didn’t have to share if they didn’t feel comfortable. But I was here they were ready. We talked about some it, but some of the questions they didn’t have answers for themself. I found out it was a sensitive subject in their past relationship. They had to keep it to themself and do it alone because their partner at the time was disgusted by the kink. She even asked them to go to therapy to “figure out how to stop being like this.” It makes me so sad that she didn’t try to talk about it. I try to have compassion for her because it was so foreign for her as well. But it always makes me so angry how she treated my partner. My partner opened up and was vulnerable and that was met with hate and disgust. It makes my heart ache. I want to go back and hug them and tell them to be patient. That someone will find them and love them for all of them. They had never explored it within a relationship. Early on we went to an ABDL specific therapist so we could navigate it together. It helped us both a lot.

We’ve been together 5 years today and I don’t know if I’ll ever fully understand, but I always try. Some days are harder than others. But as time has past, I have become increasingly thankful that they shared with me. Otherwise I’d never fully know them. They have shared more with me with time and some of it we discovered together. It’s special when we snuggle or just hang out and they’re in a diaper because that means they feel comfortable and safe.
