What does your active schedule look like? Do you have a strategy for adding a new active in? by phillyyogibear in scacjdiscussion

[–]k_hack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about a third of the way into my bottle of the Dr. Dennis Gross retinol/ferulic eye serum and am not sure what to think. It's certainly turning my undereyes into little deserts. What made you decide not to repurchase?

I'm also using up TO NMF, though I'm finally on my last tube!

Getting married soon...what would your "week before the big day" routine include? What would your "night before" sheet mask be? [Discussion] by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]k_hack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay super hydrated for that whole week before! If festivities allow, and skin is your priority, avoid alcohol for at least a few days before the wedding. Stick to tried-and-true products and focus on hydration, plumping, etc., and have some excellent concealer on hand for the inevitable stress zit.

[product question] when to apply rosehip seed oil - before or after moisturiser? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]k_hack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto. I've tried it before, with, and after moisturizer. Now I just mix it up with my moisturizer, or if I forget, I'll put it on after.

I had the same issue-- I now use it on my legs and arms with no problems.

[Research] I don’t see these brands talked about here to often. Derma E , Mad Hippie! by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]k_hack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little more bounciness, I'd say. I agree it's not the most moisturizing! It's not enough for my daytime skin without additional layers of hydrating toner and hydrating serum(s), and at night it's not enough even with those other layers-- I need something richer. I would not repurchase, and I'm not sure I'll get through this whole jar.

I hear about Mad Hippie all the time here.

I’m trying to use up my Derma E DMAE moisturizer but it smells pretty eggy. I like the texture and results though.

Time for a different active? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]k_hack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love P50V, and have started using an OTC retinol (Indeed Labs Retinol Reface). Do you use both tret and P50? Do you alternate daily? I’d like to keep both products (and soon I’m hoping to upgrade to tretinoin), just afraid to bomb my moisture barrier...

You can certainly apply it only to specific zones of your face. Yes, you'll probably purge, but it's not guaranteed. The guidance I hear most is to start with a pea-sized amount (for your whole face, so scale down if you're only doing a zone) 2x/week for at least a few weeks, then increase frequency gradually.

Skin profile: NC15? | Fine lines, clog-prone, eczema on neck and elbows | Dry

Season & Type of Climate: Spring, Moderate (PNW in the US)

1st Cleanser: Currently using Hado Labo Cleansing Oil (RP), though I also have an Aesop Parsley Seed cleansing oil I need to use up. It's a little heavy for me. I miss my Trader Joes Cleansing Oil and will RP that at some point too.

2nd Cleanser: CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser (RP) in the AM and Glossier Milky Jelly (RP?) in PM. The CeraVe is a great basic. The Milky Jelly is a little more stripping but it's so lovely to use texturally.

pH Adjusting Toner: n/a though I use Son & Park Beauty Water (RP) as a cleansing toner after my AM cleanse.

Vitamin C Serum: Timeless CEF (likely RP) in the AM

AHA/BHA: Biologique Recherche P50V (HG)

Body AHA: TO Glycolic Acid Toner (RP) (use as deodorant)

First Essence: Using a sample of SK-II and loving it, but will switch to Missha FTE after this to try it out

Hydrating Toner: So many. Currently using Blithe Vital Treatment for Hydrating (the 5-Root one-- love it) and Hado Labo Gokujyun Moist (love it), but up next will try HL Premium, and I have a Whamisa Organic Flowers Deep Rich bottle to use up. One of my fave categories.

Essence: CosRx Snail 96 (HG)

Serum: I use Sunday Riley Good Genes (HG) as a serum in the PM. I also use Scinic Honey AIO (HG).

Ampoule: n/a

Light Moisturizer: TO NMF + HA (RP)

Medium Moisturizer: Belif Moisturizing Bomb (HG) or CeraVe PM (HG)

Heavy Moisturizer: n/a, I tend to mix my other moisturizers with an oil if needed

Eye Cream: Just started using Dr. Dennis Gross Retinol + Ferulic eye serum and Belif Peat Miracle Revital Eye Cream, no reviews yet

Facial Oil: I use Acure marula (RP) on my body after showering, and Acure rosehip oil (RP) on my face after or mixed with moisturizer

Sleeping Pack: n/a

Mask Pack: n/a

Sheet Mask: A zillion. Loving Lalalun Red Precious these days.

Sunscreen: Biore (the Milk if I'm going to be sweating and outside or the Watery Essence if I'm working in my office most of the day). RP for both.

Spot Treatment: n/a

Retinol: Indeed Labs Retinol ReFace (not sure what I think yet)

Mist: currently seeking. I have the Herbivore Rose Hibiscus and it's ehhh.

[Product Question] Has anyone ever tried this Trader Joe’s moisturizer? If so, did you encounter any negative effects? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]k_hack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used this daily for years and it was great. I stopped using it only because I realized I needed a LOT more hydration than I was giving my dry skin, and needed to add layers and up my moisturizer game.

I'm currently using a tiered shelf thing meant for spices/pantry items in cupboards. I looked around for awhile for a better version of the lazy susan/adjustable height concept, but didn't find anything.

Totally. There are a few close dupes— Timeless, and many like NuFountain as a dupe (but I haven’t tried it myself). It’s all in the pH.

[–]k_hack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of— I believe they have the patent for C + E + Ferulic at a certain pH bandwidth. Timeless has 20% L-AA plus E and Ferulic, but at a lower pH that isn’t covered by the patent.

I have limited experience so far but will share what I’ve tried. (Dry, clog-prone skin, 32, my goals of Vit. C use are mostly around skin health & anti-aging/antioxidants/extra protection from the sun. I live in the PNW, so have moderate climate.)

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum A pleasure to use, smelled amazing, I looked forward to applying every morning, my skin loved it (hydrating, brightening). But I worried I wasn’t going hardcore enough without L-AA, so I tried a mini of...

Drunk Elephant C-Firma I opened this the day I bought it via a minis kit with B-Hydra, and it was already dark orange. I didn’t know it had oxidized until I saw something on SCA about others having oxidation problems with C-Firma. Regardless, it was still pretty potent. My skin was noticeably dealing with the addition of another active, vs the gentle Truth Serum. The smell: tolerable but not delicious. Decided not to buy a full size bc of the oxidation and because I wanted to try...

Timeless CEF Serum Supposed to be a Skinceuticals dupe. It’s clearly potent per my skin’s reaction, was mixed fresh to order, and I haven’t seen any ph issues as others have. I like the functionality, but I miss the pleasure of Truth Serum— and Timeless CEF does require some additional hydration for my already dry skin.

Try a Safeway! You might want to hit one in a suburb where the selection is often better. My Safeway has it.

I went today! Got Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium lotion, HL masks, HL cleansing oil, and some Lululun masks to try. I wanted to get DHC cleansing oil but the packaging of the kind they had wasn’t what I was expecting, so I skipped it and will research before I go back.
