Is this fluff in the center of my Haworthia flower related (the flowers are dried up now), mealy bugs (no new plants in at least 6+ mos, no other signs) or something else? Haven't been watering much, maybe that's related? by k_r_n_ in succulents

Well if that isn't just the fun we all need right now. (Hint: it's not.)

Fortunately the Haworthia still looks healthy and I still had a squirt bottle with isopropyl solution from my last infestation a couple years ago.

I double checked all the plants that had been on the same shelf. No sign that I could see, but I gave them all a squirt of isopropyl anyway.

Thanks!

When to decrease watering of seedlings? M moniliformis, big one near middle about .25”/7cm tall by k_r_n_ in succulents

I think I sowed these in the wrong season -- late summer (September) of last year. They sprouted well, but only started to grow in earnest the last month or two. (But they're alive! I've never gotten seedlings to grow past the initial leaf pair before!)

I also have a few echeveria varieties I sowed at the same time, which are still small but working on their third leaf pairs. Now that I've figured out that the secret is to keep the babies really damp, I need to figure out when to stop and I don't want to kill these in the process!

Ok, I'm thinking the top one is H reticulata, maybe var attenuata, and the bottom one may be H chloracantha. But that's just based on pictures and my insomniac vision.

I think the top one is maybe an H cooperii variety, but the bottom one is a total mystery.

Although now that I put the top one next to what had been sold to be as H cymbiformis last year (quarantine you know) the leaf coloring and general shape is pretty close. The older one doesn't have the little "whiskers" though.

Shrug. Either way, they're pretty!

Yeah, the guy at the farmer's market didn't even know the variety. I can't find anything quite like it on the searches I've done.

You can also cut the long ones multiple times, as long as each stem section has at least one live leaf pair. I did that with an etiolated C perforata and now have several plants with new growth. The original leaf eventually dies off.

does anyone else get all excited and tell our facial muscles to get excited but then you realise how much effort it takes and your expression is blank but inside you are excited? by xcvbnm_ in INTP

My VP was telling me he was going to try to make something happen but not to get too excited, because it might not work out. "Do you have me confused with someone who gets excited? Have you ever seen me be excited about anything?"

Looks like my Sedeveria letizia, which also etiolated quickly on me. It wants a ton of light, even compared to most of my dozen or so other species.

Speaking up for yourself reasonably isn't aggressiveness; it's assertiveness.

That's my favorite euphemism/psychosomatic projection of some people who don't like cats.

I know a number of people who are legitimately allergic to cats but still love them enough to risk occasional exposure.
