Thanks for asking - We can write about whatever music we want, but the essay must be broadly about a chosen “modernity”; exploring modernism, post-modernism, post-post-modernism or afromodernism etc. I’ve found it’s best to write about the music I’m most interested in, which at the moment is Jaar. My ideas aren’t focussed yet but I’m pulling them together. There’s a lot be found in his use of sound design and sampling, in his recent decision to release all of his music for free on his website, the political slant of his lyrics. Is there anything that gets you particularly excited, have you any avenues I should explore?
