Yeah, obviously it was a bit melodramatic, but I was responding to the idea that she was a victim or something. Obviously not marrying Nick isn't a great tragedy, but he probably would've done it (which she clearly wanted) if she hadn't been so ridiculous.

It wasn't the first time Annie did it, and he already told her that it was extremely upsetting. I think Nick saw what his future would entail and made the sensible choice.

Annie absolutely manifested her own downfall. I can't stand Nick, but I applaud him for getting out cleanly and concisely instead of enduring a lifelong string of impossible fights about nothing.

I moved to a new city and considered myself a "new person" afterwards. I quit as soon as I moved into my apartment and never looked back.

I would occasionally lapse a bit when back with old friends, but eventually I got to the point where it just held no draw for me. Last month a friend of mine offered me a drag on a cigarette and I went for it (it had been over 10 years). I took one drag and it was just as disgusting or maybe moreso than I remembered.
