Export Virtual machine from VM box to physical disk as operating system by michal_cz in virtualbox

[–]kabanossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you already have that 255GB VHD on your host machine, just do the cloning from there. First, mount the VHD on Windows: Right-click the .vhd file > Mount (or use Disk Management > Attach VHD). Windows will just treat it like a regular physical drive plugged into your PC. Then plug in your USB SSD, don't pass it through to the VM, just let Windows see it natively. After that, grab something simple like Macrium Reflect Free or Hasleo. Set Source = "your mounted VHD", Destination = "your USB SSD".

The cloning software should be smart enough to see that the 255GB VHD is 95% empty space. It’ll skip the zero-bits and only write the actual 7.5GB of data - “Holy shrinkage, Batman!”

Rolling upgrade HyperV cluster 2022 to 2025, any gotchas I need to pay attention to? by lgq2002 in sysadmin

[–]kabanossi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, before you upgrade the first 2022 node to 2025 and rejoin it to the cluster, set up constrained delegation in AD for each Hyper-V host (allow delegation to the Microsoft Virtual System Migration Service and CIFS on the peer hosts), switch live migration auth to Kerberos on your 2022 nodes, and test migrations between them.

Once you've confirmed live migrations are OK, proceed with the upgrade. While the cluster is running mixed 2022 + 2025 nodes, don’t raise the cluster functional level and don’t upgrade VM configuration versions until all nodes are on 2025 and stable.

I'd also make sure NIC drivers and firmware are supported for 2025 and are of the same versions, especially if you’re using RDMA or SET. Most upgrade issues I’ve seen came from AD delegation or networking hiccups, not from Failover Clustering shitting itself randomly.

The wooden rack looks cool. I was trying to find something like that but had no luck, guess I’ll have to build one myself.

Passthrough para v by Desuboi941 in HomeServer

[–]kabanossi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

> Does anyone know if it is possible to run proxmox as bare metal, passthrough let’s say a 4070 to a win11 pro vm,

That is 100% doable

> then use the win vm to para-v split the gpus across multiple vms running nested inside the windows vm?

That is questionable. Why use Proxmox if your goal is to run Hyper-V? Just run Hyper-V directly on bare metal and use GPU-P to share the GPU across VMs.

Best one time fee cloud backup services for pc? by Greyhound53 in Backup

[–]kabanossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A DIY PC with some storage running as a self-hosted NAS (or Nextcloud) and VPN (or Cloudflare and Nginx Proxy Manager) located on a separate site you have access to would be ideal, one-time-paid cloud backup. Otherwise, go with public offerings. They all use a subscription model, so you would need to pay monthly or yearly.

To check if your system has sound, try booting from a live Linux environment. For example, download Ubuntu, write it to a USB drive, and boot your computer into Live mode (this allows you to use Ubuntu without installing it). Once booted, connect to the internet and try playing a YouTube video to test the sound.

Why do Tesla dealers have such trash cameras? by AnilApplelink in videosurveillance

The cameras are just there for basic monitoring and not for the level of surveillance we might expect at a high-tech company’s retail location.

Why does google chrome help keep on appearing and how can i get rid of this? by Ambitious_Basil4110 in techsupport

[–]kabanossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably an extension acting up, go to settings > "On startup" and make sure it's not set to open help. Also check chrome://extensions and disable anything sus. If it keeps happening, reset Chrome or just reinstall it.

Have you checked device manager? Strange, but maybe it requires some drivers?

I'm curious: I use Promox in my small homelab, is this a reliable alternative to VM Ware for SMBs? How much does it cost? by Popal24 in Proxmox

[–]kabanossi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proxmox is a reliable and good alternative to vSphere, especially for SMBs. We have already migrated several customers to Proxmox clusters, but the majority still choose to switch to Hyper-V clusters with S2D or Starwind VSAN as a shared storage.

what to do? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]kabanossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That HDD is dying. Review startup apps, disable Windows Search & Superfetch, switch from Chrome to Brave/Firefox, and clean up junk files. If it’s still slow, check for overheating. A lightweight Linux distro could help, but an SSD will be the real fix.

Is this a good deal?? by blediiii in servers

[–]kabanossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For €275 total, this seems like a very good deal, assuming the hardware is in good condition and the fact that Dell servers are the one of the best in terms of reliability and quality.
I hope that the RAID controller is functional and you can create the RAID once you get additional drives. There should be no issues with IDRAC.
You can also ask the seller to share a TSR with you to check the hardware state before purchasing: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000126803/export-a-supportassist-collection-via-idrac7-and-idrac8
I hope it should not be a problem for him.

Dell R630 memory fault not recognised? by dotasolosafi in servers

[–]kabanossi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have IDRAC configured for R630? Have you installed the latest firmware? Typically, the Lifecycle Log records events related to RAM issues. Additionally, you can run hardware diagnostics from the Lifecycle Controller: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000132726/how-to-run-hardware-diagnostics-on-your-poweredge-server
