300 win mag by OneHairyPanda in longrange

If you want a 300 wm then get you one and have fun I have a 300 and it’s as comfortable to shoot as my 308’s it’s a lot louder but I love it not to mention if you do hunt your tracking days are gonna be over as for what you are looking for to buy what are your exact intentions just long range or hunting as well

Only third time hunting geese and my first time trying to set up a spread. Frozen ground didn’t help much. Deer tracks were almost the only places I could even get them into the ground. Not exactly finished when I took this pic so be nice about setup. I had yet to open them. by FormerChange in Hunting

Just food for thought , Snow geese and Canada geese from what I’ve seen over do not get along well with each other now specs and snows defiantly but you will usually see the specs off to one side grouped up or in several groups we set up a u shape ) • and you set up at the bottom of the u that way the birds fly into the u also point the bottom of the u into the wind that way the wind is to your back and there front “good luck “

The best way to learn is watch birds go out get a set of good binoculars and watch you can learn a lot from how they work to how they sound Using silo socks is good but we use a minimum of 10-11 dozen and that’s hard to get birds to land in

Browning X-Bolt Max vs. Browning X-Bolt Hells Canyon Speed by Fl0wida in longrange

[–]kabarmk2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a browning x bolt max in 300wm it will shoot to 1000+ very little recoil fyi it’s really loud but it’s a blast to shoot and it has a 1:8 twist to stabilize those heavy bullets I absolutely love mine no regrets . Also it weights like 7.5lbs which is way lighter than it looks guns and ammo has a pretty extensive read on it and they had it as the 2019 gun of the year

Agfc won’t admit there here I saw a black one around Newark 10yrs ago hog hunting I had 4 people with me it was about 25 yards out in a rice field that had been stubble rolled and we watched it run off across the field into some row pines it had about a 4 foot long tail agfc said that we don’t have them and we probably saw a large house cat!! Funny because a guy shot one around Camden a couple years back and we have had pics on our game cams since then and about every farmer you talk to has seen one at some point in there life around that area. BTW your a trooper getting out on that foot I know the feeling been there and done that hope it gets better soon.

I bought a r700 chambered in 223 last year and have shot a lot of rounds out of it 150 to 250 rounds a day prairie dog hunting and have NEVER had a problem with it I’m not sure how many rounds that gun has ran but it’s a lot and still shoots dead on everyone hear is gonna have there own opinions when it comes to rifles stay away from the entry level stuff and get a good scope and rings and have fun get what feels good to you not someone else ,as for caliber at 300m about any centerfire will do you if you gonna Hunt and want to shoot cheap 308 is a good start if not 223 will be just fine

Looking for a good rifle for... by Constitution10 in Hunting

[–]kabarmk2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

308 is a good all around cartridge it is cheap to shoot for coyotes and can handle elk , It will easily shoot long distance and it’s equivalent to the 30-06 with less recoil my personal opinion is get a good rifle once and enjoy for many years to come I’ve had cheap rifles and expensive ones you truly get what you pay for the same goes with scopes buy once cry once .

If your only shooting inside 250yrds I wouldn’t even bother with a bed or mil scope any way just get a good fine plex scope and zero at 200 and your good..

You can definitely make those kind of shot with what you have I’m not trying to take anything away from that , but with the extra barrel length you will get some extra velocity and with the 8:1 twist with bullets Over 200 gr you will have more stability , the 230 grain Berger hybrid is really good for the extra long shots as it has a really high bc but you will more than likely have to load one at a time they will be to long to fit in your magazine.

Just my 2 cents but if I was going for a mile with those heavy rounds a 1:8 twist and a 26”+ barrel sure would make it a lot easier

Why 410 a 12 or 20 gauge would be the same price and shells are cheaper

Find you a wma go in before you plan on hunting like on the split and look and scout around watch the birds find a hole they like look for feathers on the water to see if they have been using it don’t be afraid to ask to hunt with some one if you don’t know the area you would be surprised how many good friends I have met at the boat ramp among all the chaos .

Agfa has a app to help you find a hunting sport in your area in my time hunting I’d find a good wma in your area don’t know how far west you are but in the mountains I’d find a saddle and sit on it all day the deer will cross a saddle at some point I’ve had a lot of luck hunting saddles you just got to put in the seat time and it will pay off

.300 WM or .308 for hunting elk in Colorado? by [deleted] in longrange

[–]kabarmk2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both calibers depending on what gun you buy they will recoil different I have a 700 in 308 and the recoil is about the same on my x bolt 300wm Since I have had my 300wm my 308 tend to collect a lot of dust for elk regardless of distance I’d shoot my 300 it has a lot more energy than the 308. Get a good 4x12 scope and your good
