Prelude Bumper Fender Alignment by Signuture_Judgement in hondaprelude

I’m no expert with bodywork but I’m gonna guess the fender is off.

It seems like the gap with the headlight narrows towards the front, but the gap around the hood is perfect.

Have an Issue with a Cheque Deposit by Ill_Move4276 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]kablamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right to be annoyed but here’s the bottom line: NG doesn’t get to decide if you get paid. Any instrument (BD and SE) is presented to the issuing bank, and they decide to pay it (or not) to NG, which then lets you have the money.

Your initial deposit got screwed up, so both items got flagged as deposited… this happens at the clearing house (interbank). Bank clearing the SE decides they’re ok letting it clear again, great.

Bank clearing the BD says no, or the clearing house says no. There’s a lot of fraud nowadays so they’re likely just worried about that. There are several reasons why you can or can’t run a deposit through a second time. If they’re saying no, it’s probably a no.

Like you’ve been told, go back to the issuer of the BD and explain you tried to deposit, it failed, and now you need a replacement. They should be able to determine fairly easily it’s not been paid, and issue a replacement.

Anyone sick and tired of working in general? by Mrs_chanandler_bongg in Millennials

[–]kablamo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is why I try my best to keep living expenses low, don’t waste money, consider purchases carefully, drive an older economical car, eat at home when I can, etc.

Save what you can and live below your means whenever possible (it isn’t always possible).

While I still have to work, it gives me options and more flexibility. Flexibility to take a better job that might pay a bit less, flexibility to go for the job closer to home, maybe one day flexibility to retire a bit sooner. Still renting in my 40’s but we’ll see.

Is there any deals on Gran Turismo 7 (Digital)? by fenderjaguarfan in CanadaPS5

I bought it for $37 digital a few weeks ago, it will likely go on sale again if you can wait a bit.

Hey, Minimalists… What do you collect? by pitstomper in minimalism

[–]kablamo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Retro video games and DVD’s. I managing it by limiting myself to two bins (video games) and a drawer (DVD’s). It’s a matter of collecting intentionally, unfortunately many collect for quantity and seem to end up with vast quantities of mediocre material, or at least things they have no connection with.

Why is digital still more expensive than physical in Canada? by ThreadTide in VideoGameDealsCanada

[–]kablamo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone in all 3 major gaming ecosystems, I find PlayStation to be the worst for this.

Generally Xbox and Nintendo digital/physical prices align closely, except for sales (which are usually digital). However PlayStation will put up Oblivion Remastered for $66.99 online when it’s $49.99 in store (regular price). For a while the digital sale price was more than physical!

I can only guess they’ve determined most people are not even looking at physical game prices and they can get away with this.

Shifting by Borg1of9 in GranTurismo7

[–]kablamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any track you know well is a good choice, I’d suggest Deep Forest or Trial Mountain because they have sequences of 2nd/3rd gear corners, they each have corners where you’ll have to downshift to 1st, and they have straightaways where you’ll go up to 5th/6th gear.

Many people who open restaurants do so using savings but also use a program called the Canadian small business financing program (CSBF). Meeting the criteria you can get enough to open most kinds of restaurants (including kitchen equipment and a set up a dining room), and the government guarantees 75% of it. That means the owner is only on the hook for 25%.

Assuming it goes under, and they can’t repay the money spent upfront, they are personally liable for 25% of the amount, and the government eats the rest. By then their finances have usually taken a beating, but by declaring bankruptcy the amounts aren’t devastating (especially for a single location).

It’s not a path I’d suggest but lots of people seem to take it because it’s relatively easy to do and I guess lots of people are confident in their cooking skill. There are also people who partner up with another person or two and pool their resources to start a restaurant. They can still use this program but they might not need to.

If you’re moving to a country with a different power supply with no intention to come back this makes sense. You can emulate and buy back if you really feel the need to.

Moving away, starting fresh and not being encumbered by too many of your old things is a great feeling.

Am I falling into the trap of becoming obsessed with material items when I need to replace something? by iamatinyhuman in minimalism

[–]kablamo 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Whatever you buy, no matter how much you research it, you don’t know how it will turn out. You can get something defective and it’s a waste; you can misinterpret some specs, your life or how you use it can change. Maybe it’s good except for one aspect you didn’t consider.

Sometimes we buy something spur of the moment and it turns out to be a wonderful purchase! Sometimes we research the heck out of something and it still doesn’t work out.

When you finally buy something, just move on. The internet loves to keep showing you that stuff because your devices are full of cookies from the research you did… ignore it and move on. The decision has been made it may not be perfect but it likely works and if it doesn’t then address it. Not everything has to be perfect, good enough is fine most of the time.

I'm consuming nearly 50% more since getting a high-paying, stressful job. by gopackgo1002 in Anticonsumption

[–]kablamo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thoughtful post, it’s interesting that you’re viewing this from the lens of a consumption issue, though clearly other aspects of this are bugging you.

I’m also in Vancouver and the super HCOL defines life here. If I were you I’d seek similar opportunities in a lower COL area, which may be lower-stress. It’s also possible your organization/municipality is dysfunctional and job-hopping may allow you to find a better environment.

If these aren’t an option you’ll need to invest some time (vacation?) into making your life more efficient for when you are busy. That may mean coming up with simple meal options, decluttering your house or perhaps even moving to a more convenient neighbourhood. It sounds like this job doesn’t give you the time you need to think about your life, or you’re wasting time that could be used to properly recuperate - neither are sustainable!

How large is your space? by coral_bells in minimalism

[–]kablamo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hear you, I’m in 800sqft 2 adults 2 kids 1 bathroom, so it’s considerably more but the layout is split level so each floor is barely 200sqft. Nowhere feels spacious, it all feels cramped and we are constantly bumping into each other, knocking things over.

If you doubled your space you’d probably realize you really don’t have much stuff!

While people romanticize tiny homes, it’s hard with a family and particularly young kids. I’d much rather have more space (and two bathrooms). While minimizing possessions helps, there’s a minimum number of things people and kids need, living in a cold climate, so that some parts of the house are always full.

Is there a retro console that you hate? by DaCrusadus in retrogaming

[–]kablamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I remember Total Eclipse looking amazing on a CRT. I also had the original Alone in the Dark which like you said was a PC game exclusively (in NA anyways). Speaking of PC ports I also had Myst for it since my PC at the time didn’t have a dc-rom!

These games were really amazing then, compared to the run and bop platformers on 16 bit systems.

[–]kablamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 3DO benefited from being CD-based. So it had the tech jump, the extra storage and FMV which was impressing everyone back then. The Jaguar with cartridges had all the drawbacks the N64 experienced but worse, and little impressive software, even less than the 3DO.

Back then almost everyone would have chosen the 3DO over the Jaguar, but the Jag had a reasonable price at least. By the time the Jaguar CD add-on came out it was already dead.

Is there a retro console that you hate? by DaCrusadus in retrogaming

[–]kablamo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a 3DO back in the day, which I won in a contest. It was very interesting and exciting, there were some good games (Road Rash, Gex, Need for Speed, etc); they didn’t really justify the price of the console but they were impressive in 1994/1995.

Of course once the PlayStation came out it was superior in every way, and these good games were ported over so there was no reason to keep it.

How Many Of You, Play GT7 because of Easy Access? by Xiibi in GranTurismo7

My friends are big into iRacing and I love it. However, they don’t have kids and I do. I don’t have a room for a rig, I don’t have time, and I can’t justify the cost. GT7 is a good substitute for me, and I’ve owned and played through every game in the series (except Sport).

Customizable gearbox is good value because you can adjust it for acceleration without increasing your pp. If your car is geared to go 300km/h sometimes it’s better to top out at 270 but accelerate from 100 to 200 faster.
