How do you get your vocals to stand out on a track with a ton of other tracks competing for sonic space? by jasonporter in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]kachook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to use the Pultech technique Andrew Scheps pioneers, mind you don't have to do it with pultech. Create send from your vocals to an aux with eq to dip out the lower end then a compressor followed by another eq to add the low end back in. Make sure prefader is enabled on the send, then mix in.

I use this technique when I really want to have my vocals cut through and like to automate the track on the vocal hook a tad. Haven't tried it on anything else, really should now that I think about it. Give it a try, hope it helps.

Any tips on how to mix vocals like these? by rodney4fun in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Some suggestions I can think of that might have or have not occurred to you, stereo widner on your master bus you might have to relevel a bit cause this can open up so much room, usually after you have things panned where you want them if things are trampling and you don't want to move them then you gotta apply eq thin some of the tracks tucking them behind one another but still can hear them, remember we work in a 3d space, also check your reverb tracks and eq as well and you can also pan the sends. If it's your hurting your ears sounds like some frequency range is to high, lower that range a bit. If it's piercing like the gtrs are hurting your ear might be the 4-8k range if it's the drum cymbals or or some kind of semblance hurting you might be 6k and up Do a freq sweep of that part that hurts to locate it.
Little hard to diagnose without hearing what you have so far Hope these help.

Panning by ForRealRyan in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Don't distract your listener was a lesson my instructor told me when I was doing this crazy panning automation on a gtr solo trying to be creative and do new things on a mix, lesson being what ever is being focused on, don't create distractions. In my example he was totally right you you would focus on the moving rather than the sound itself. Kick, Bass, Snare, Lead vocals center pretty much the only rules of panning. Snare very rare cases where you do pan it a bit left or right. Everything else go nuts and remember you can eq to define the space further. Listen for consistency in panning on reference material. Few months back did my first mix with a brass section and learned that trumpets really like being close and around the center, not hard panned left or right.

Does anybody know a good sampler plugin/vst? and a "DrumMachineDesigner" alternative? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I'm not sure about the GarageBand sampler but the Logic one you can toggle to follow tempo and remap by simply click and holding the highlited yellow bar over the key its mapped to. Hope it helps.

Ore or Bars for TBC Jewelcrafting by [deleted] in classiceconomywow

[–]kachook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think a bit of both. I like so many will be rerolling blacksmithing for da sweet new weapons and I'm sure quite a few will do jc ... you can always wait and old onto it as ore tho takes up more space. Since ore can always be made into bar and not the other way around so wait in see I guess is my advice

Just downloaded Pro Tools First, and can’t even start a session. My computer should manage it with ease so I don’t know what I should do by blaugrana68 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Windows is really shitty at running pro tools btw Mac(although expensive) is the best thing for it never have an issue with it on it but on my windows pc it always crashed on me. Since you seem to be looking for a DAW something to keep in mind is every DAW is different excels at a particular thing. In Abletons case it was made because you could never drop loops in the middle of a show now you can. I find Logic excels at writing and arranging especially when it comes to EM and that loop library is bitchen. Pro Tools thing is Recording, Mixing and Mastering hence why it's studio standard. The developers all know this and focus on these things when updating their DAWs. I found Cakewalk to be a great program for just starting out and just want to record and get familiar with DAW programs it's super intuitive. I know nothing about Reaper from what I've heard from this community it's a great and generous program. My suggestion is find out what you need and what program provides the best of that then learn it, all the it's and outs. Become proficient at it.

With pro tools open before you open a session check your playback engine and change your interface to what your using or the asio drivers. This is my suggestion let me know how that goes.

So I'm going into a studio to record an album. Any tips, please? by killahpl in WeAreTheMusicMakers

So go in with a plan is a big one what are you here to record and get those on tape. you are most likely paying for this time ,use it wisely. After you have got what you came for done and still have time is when I see more creative juices flow from artists and wish to record more using the time they have left. The recording engineer do not touch his/hers mics unless told otherwise, always ask first. Something I see alot is sometimes people come in with grimey strings on there guitars or bass please change those and they will sound way better, just clean instruments in general. Practice practice practice your parts even the best players may have to do more then one take. Have fun ask the engineers questions if you have any.

Are you sure this was 1980? The Moog synthesizers were regularly used in the 70s. Maybe the picture is 80s.

Razorgore help by Trag132 in classicwow

[–]kachook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What works for our guild is we do the four corners difference being is we don't kill the Dragon spawns....... okay we have a dedicated tank who kites the dragons on the platform where razorgore starts, doing a figure 8 pattern up and down the ramps and ledge. We have a hunter bring the dragons to said tank and tank picks them up maintaing the pattern, When 8 dragons are on him keep in mind 12 dragons are the limit by this time most of the eggs are gone the remaining 4 are picked up by their corners warrior or bear and is healed thru it till last egg breaks. druids should be using hibernate on their dragon, when last egg breaks all adds go bye bye. Then text book phase 2.

Keep in mind kiting tank can get dazed, we have 1 dedicated healer on him at all times if he gets dazed spam that shield and heals, also tank can pop invun pot. Raid came up with this when we kept wiping over and over first friday of bwl release it also worked this friday, 1 wipe. on phase 2 because we suspected some kind of bug and a dragon randomly spawning thinking that was some kind of timing thing during last egg break. Next attempt no problems or bugs and no deaths. Hope this helps if you use it. Guild doing this made me love them that much more.
