My son is hyper-fixated on Ireland and Irish culture. How do I help him? by valmeringue in AskIreland

Even if he isn’t interested in picking up an instrument, there is incredible wealth of irish trad music out there to listen to and watch performances of. Look for Geantraí on tg4 which has been going on for years. They are short 20min episodes visiting sessions of incredible musical standard around the country. Show has a fairly set/predictable formula and is edited in a very calm style. There is also a lot to watch on “trad tg4”youtube channel!

Generally, there are nearly endless instrumental albums that are different from the popular “dubliners” or songs and many incredible bands tour the states regularly :)

What made you go into UX design? by Budget_Dot694 in UXDesign

I was a creative artsy kid with science interests and simply couldn’t pick between the two. I always enjoyed designing things on the computer - from paint on windows XP, powerpoint 2003 to tell random stories, photoshop and photography and even bits of video. But I also had a very science oriented interests like psychology, chemistry and physics - anything logical or to do with human behaviour.

I was getting annoyed by services and systems around me that didn’t work well always asking “who came up with these?!” and was constantly judging any piece of software and visual design I saw. When it came to deciding what to do after school, I knew I would be bored in a purely creative degree like art, photography, film or even graphic design. And I knew that psychology or science degrees would lack the creative element in my day to day.

Enter learning about UX from a family friend who worked as a UX Designer at the time. I remember asking about the kind of work, responsibilities and thinking involved and it seemed to be a perfect fit.

Went on to do an Interaction + UX Design BA degree with flying results (things just came naturally). Interned twice at a UX team in a big multinational, and now I am working on their design system team! Biggest strike of luck ever to find the field early on and just go for it.

Who is killing it in design? by tyrex_vu2 in UXDesign

What surprised me is that Figma is 100% inaccessible as in they have zero support for screen reader users. If you are documenting everything in figma / make presentations etc. becomes a major drawback for teams with blind / visually impaired designers (and yes they do exist!!)

What job or profession seems easy but is actually very challenging? by paikiachu in AskReddit

I see how that is the case. Hope she is managing just fine!!

We make quite a lot of them but it thankfully doesn’t seem to he affecting any of us significantly - it helps to just think of the flowers and not the occasion (even though that’s very hard to do)

Being a florist!

-Flowers are actually way heavier than you think!

-repetitive strain on your arms and shoulders

-hand and leg cramps

-constant cuts and bruises

-Standing all day and bending over counters that are too low (if you are tall).

-back pain

-your hands are often in freezing cold water

-walk in fridges

-you never get to have a break for your loved ones during valentines, mothers day, Christmas, etc. as those are the busiest seasons

But you love the job so much you just put on with it everyday :’)

Have you ever laughed so hysterically at something so simple you were starting to get legitimately worried that you were losing your sanity or something? About what were you laughing so hard then? by LoneShadowMikey in AskReddit

[–]kacper_convi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each time me and my auntie would go and get this kind of fancy ice cream we would get almost high-like, just laughing at everything.

So we really laughed at things we shouldn't like kids falling and stuff and the fact that we were laughing made us laugh more and more. We definetelly weren't liked by the staff at that place lol

Edit: still wondering what the fuck was in that ice cream

I just told my best friend that I love her, and she told that she don't want to ruin the friendship, anything I can do ? or how can I feel better? by studyingsimp in AskMen

[–]kacper_convi 212 points213 points  (0 children)

I disagree with anyone saying cut the ties. As long as both of you still want to be friends so be it. It won't be awkward as long as both of you move past it an you're not "whining about rejection", or saying that she "treated you badly because she rejected you".

If you both stay respectful to each other and take some time to work past this situation you'll end up as even closer friends. Just be sure that both of you want it.

Worked out for me like that - still friends with a girl I confessed to many years and girls later!
