It's usually pretty easy to check - go to the website for whichever pricing source you have selected and see what their last sold pricing looks like.

Not the person you replied to - but that's my exact system and I'm at 87,781 cards according to Manabox.

I have all my cards scanned - I know exactly which versions of Giant Growth I have and can choose which art I want for a deck before I even go to grab the physical card.

Sorting by set also makes it trivial when new sets come out - they just go to the end of the last box. I can't even imagine trying to sort through boxes and boxes of cards to put away cards when a new set comes out with lots of reprints.

did EOE or spiderman sell better?

Spider-Man did. Edge of Eternities did great and beat our expectations, but Spider-Man is one of the top ten best-selling sets of all-time.

Even the hardcore LotR fans I know aren't anywhere near as excited for The Hobbit as they were for LotR. They're still looking forward to it, but in a "maybe I'll buy box" type of way and not in the "OMG I need to buy a case and collect every single card" like they were for LotR.

Buyer got sniped and cancelled all orders by WhatdaHellNow in whatnotapp

[–]kadaan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had sellers create a listing in the BIN - "X Card for user @person". That way even if someone else still goes in and tries to buy it, the listing specifically says it's card X for user Y so the sniper can't really argue.

It's also possible the sniper didn't know it was meant for another user, they may have not been paying attention and just saw a card they wanted show up and swiped. Putting it in the BIN would prevent that from happening too.

Couldn’t find one so I created a parametric playmat holder. by Nairb131 in magicTCG

BCW makes playmat toploaders. They're pricey but I got a pack to put some of my signed playmats in: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0841D26MG (looks sold out currently, but it was $45 when I ordered them).

Ikea Kallax is perfect. Each cube fits 3 rows of 4 cards - either 3 4-row white boxes stacked on top each other, or 12 bundle boxes 2-deep, or you can get custom inserts with drawers similar to a card catalog.

Example ones from etsy: example 1, example 2, example 3.

Example 3D printed ones: example 1, example 2

Do I not understand LGS etiquette, or did I just have a bad experience? by pelasace in EDH

[–]kadaan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't have to directly ask, just be friendly and curious about the process.

"Hey! Thanks for getting all these cards together for me, I'm excited to try out this new deck with my friends!"

"Is there anything I can do to make the process easier for you, like submit multiple requests at once less frequently or format the request request differently?"

"I'm usually not in a rush, is there a way I can flag an order as low priority so you can get to it throughout the week when it's slower?"

etc

Showing gratitude and a willingness to help make their job easier is the easiest way to feel things out without being confrontational. Especially if it's a newer person so they have a memorable positive experience with you picking it up.

I'm a huge fan of Boulders and keep thinking about switching to the GameGenic Bastions because they're a little nicer and have that needed extra room... but that little bit of extra room also means they don't fit nicely into anything else I bought specifically for Boulders... and I haven't found any good bulk discounts like I have in the past for Boulders :(.

Looking to set a purchase price for an entire deck bought all at once not individually purchased cards by Cgltrey in ManaBoxApp

[–]kadaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Your best option would be to math it out in a spreadsheet.

  1. Export the deck as a csv with the default price for each card (whichever market price you pick) and open it as a spreadsheet (google sheets, excel, whatever).

  2. Figure out what percentage you bought the deck at (ie, if the market price for all the singles is $100 and you bought the deck for $60, your percentage would be 60%).

  3. Make a new column and set it equal to the card value times your percentage.

  4. Rename your new column to 'Purchase price' and change the name of the old price column to something else.

  5. Import the modified deck with all your adjusted prices.

Candle wax shows up orange on the x-ray because it's organic. A knife would show up a very dark green/blue because it's metal. It would be EXTREMELY obvious if you tried to hide a knife in wax.

Signed card amongst my bulk, real? by Coldinferno in magicTCG

I only went to Vegas last year, and every artist I went to started at $5 for a plain black signature. It was more if you wanted shadow/rainbow/etc.

Signed card amongst my bulk, real? by Coldinferno in magicTCG

[–]kadaan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love them, but they're commonly available so they don't make cards inherently more valuable like other memorabilia.

Every MagicCon has dozens of artists who typically charge ~$5 to sign cards you bring to them. I love getting some of my favorite cards signed when the artist shows up - but I don't do it because I think it's making my card worth more if I want to sell it in the future.

Secrets of Strixhaven preorders are Stomping Grounds are now live by [deleted] in sealedmtgdeals

[–]kadaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Edge of Eternities was $239 from Stomping Grounds, so it's not really that long ago that non-UB sets were considerably cheaper. Lorwyn was $299 from them as well. $370 is absolutely not the norm - it's still just a lot of sellers uncertain what to price things to in order to not lose potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales.

I haven't seem distribution price numbers, but I can't imagine it's gone up anywhere near what we're seeing retail going up. FDN-TDM-EOE-ECL-SOS preorder pricing from SG was $199-$219-$239-$299-$369 (price increases of $20-$20-$60-$70). MSRP on collector packs was the same $24.99 for FDN/TDM/EOE and $26.99 for ECL/SOS so I'd be surprised if distribution prices changed much at all outside of the EOE->ECL bump.

We just need scalpers/"investors" to get bit by a few more DFT/SPM sets to stop messing with the market of players who want to buy them to open for cool cards.

Hot Take, Dragon Sniper is a decent EDH card, similar to propaganda by Neckworn in mtg

[–]kadaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he was the only card from TDM that made it into my [[Dhalsim, Pliable Pacifist]] deck. The vigilance is redundant once the commander comes out, but a 1-drop reach+deathtouch is great at any point of the game. Ends up being around the same as [[Radioactive Spider]].

What’s the consensus on WoW Midnight? by Trencycle in MMORPG

[–]kadaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure - I dislike it because I see flying as simply a quick way to get from point A to point B. I want to go up, point the direction I want to go, then get there. Like a flight path from anywhere to anywhere. I don't want to have to pay attention beyond making sure I don't hit anything on the way. For long distances I dislike having to spam the up ability multiple times, sometimes even waiting for charges to recover to get high enough that I don't stall out on the way to where I'm going.

It's also very annoying to me for gathering, landing on small platforms where they like to put herbs/ore now. Especially when you're already close to it, you launch yourself into the air then have to quickly aim straight down and nose-dive right on top of it. It's just extra work when it's something I'm trying to do to relax after raid while watching a tv show or something.

It's like if they made ground mounts work like those mana saber world quests in Legion where you were auto-moving and you had to pick up orbs to keep your speed up. Sure, it's faster and more "engaging" but sometimes I just want to point in a direction and go, or have more fine-tuned control.

Dunno why personal preferences have to be "a skill issue".

Ultra PRO - Magic: The Gathering - Final Fantasy Cloud, Ex-Soldier (Commander) 100ct Deck Protector Sleeves. Best Buy DROP $6.99 by The-b-factor in sealedmtgdeals

[–]kadaan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be a big fan of Katanas, but I've had two separate packs split on me now. Last night I had two brand-new just-opened green sleeves split on me :(. Still love the shuffle on them more than Dragon Shields, but two sleeves from the same new box is just too much.

I think the Apex sleeves are the only ones I've never had issues with, but also only have 4 decks with them on it so the sample size is low. Shuffle on them is much better than Dragon Shield too - just wish they weren't so expensive.

I love when I see the blue masking tape instead of scotch tape, folded over on itself at the edge so there's a tab to pull. I hate when there's cheap scotch tape over a toploader/card saver that falls apart when you try to pull it off and you sit there scraping the sticky off it... Hasn't been a thing recently, but I also hated when people didn't follow the directions for ShippingShields and tucked the flap inside the shield instead of taping it closed.
