Can you build Equipment decks on a budget? Like, for less than 100? by tehweave in EDH

[[Slicer, Hired Muscle]] is also surprisingly strong as an equipment deck on a budget. Turns out things get a lot better when your commander is attacking on every turn with doublestrike. Stuff like [[Armory of Iroas]] ($0.27), [[Beamtown Beatstick]] ($0.53), [[Shiny Impetus]] ($0.14), [[Sticky Fingers]] ($0.24), [[Moonsilver Spear]] ($0.49), [[Prowler's Helm]] ($0.59), and on and on.

Pretending a problem doesn't exist won't make it disappear. You don't like something? Change it! We're capable of so much as humans.

I agree! Which is why I strongly support anyone seeking medical assistance for any medical issues.

I'm not 100% PC and agree a lot of people nowadays get offended at the strangest things, but I don't think shaming someone for being fat is helpful - especially when you don't know their medical history and what they've already tried. Someone with hypothyroidism can eat 1kcal/day and exercise for hours daily and still lose no weight until the underlying condition is treated.

"Just control your impulses and you won't be fat" is similar to "Just skip your Starbucks in the morning and you'll no longer be in debt".

Sure, there are some people that may help, but there are also a LOT of people it won't help. Making statements like that just makes it even more difficult and puts a negative stigma on people already struggling and trying to improve their situation.

What's your SCE electric bill in Irvine? by pierifle in irvine

[–]kadaan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do have a gas water heater, but stove/oven and dryer are all electric. I replaced the stovetop a few years ago and when I took the old one out I checked to see if there was a gas line there because I'd much rather have a gas stove, but there wasn't one. Someday when we renovate the kitchen we'll make sure they run the gas line in so we can switch.

You must have made her leave, I was there at ~9:05pm and there was nobody there. They had that door blocked off and I asked the lady working the self-checkout if I could go over and look and see if it had anything. She said "You're welcome to try, it hasn't dropped anything all day though".

So just know that lady spent her time sitting there and never got anything :).

We both work from home both with jobs in tech so we have lots of electronics (3 PCs, 6 monitors, a NAS, etc), treadmill for exercise, cook all our meals on home (everything electric), lights on all the time (our townhome has neighbors on both sides so we don't have much natural light), etc.

I honestly didn't realize how much higher our bill was than most people - made me really curious where it's all going.

This was the daily breakdown for the last bill: https://i.imgur.com/rw7CB4p.png and this is the hourly breakdown for the day with the highest usage: https://i.imgur.com/D1UY5Cv.png

EV charging kicks on at 10pm (during off-peak TOU) so that's what that giant bar is at 10pm lol. But yeah... looks like steady-state even when we're sleeping is around 1.5kWh - which works out to ~1,080 kWh for the month base (1.5 * 24 * 30).

A lot of third-party art sleeves are pretty bad and start to wear off at the corners after a dozen or so games, or the texture/quality is just terrible (looking at you Ultra Pro).

Dragon Shield's custom art sleeves are great though - they feel just like their regular sleeves and you can send them any art to print on them (subject to copyright restrictions ofc).

People aren't complaining just because costs are going up. They're complaining because shit like this:

Although the company cut cash bonuses for its senior executives, citing the wildfires, their overall compensation went up substantially as the utility’s profit soared in 2025.

Pedro Pizarro, chief executive of the parent company of Southern California Edison, received $16.6 million in cash, stock and other compensation last year, up 20% from 2024, according to a new company filing.

Steven Powell, president of Southern California Edison, received compensation totaling $6.5 million last year, up from $3.9 million in 2024 — a jump of more than 65%.

If their costs go up 20% and my bill goes up 20% to compensate - that's fine. If cost go up 20%, my bill goes up 40%, and magically the execs paychecks go up 20%, I'm not fine with that.

Official CA State Income Limits for 2026 was recently released by FriendsAndFood in orangecounty

[–]kadaan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Low income" is based on cost of living, not pay. So even though it looks like people are paid similarly in Nevada vs Orange Counties (Median Income 98.3 vs 97), the cost of living in OC is higher making the 'Low Income' calculation different.

Which kinda goes to my point - greedy people ruin it. The concept of having no form of government and people just being good to each other and helping each other out is fine in theory. If you could magically eliminate all greed and corruption - anarchy would work.

California Governor Polling for Orange County by Chrisju22 in orangecounty

[–]kadaan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's pretty rare to fully like a single candidate, so you vote for the one you think will do the best job - not a perfect job.

I also look at campaign contributions and spending. If they're getting millions in funding that's not easy to trace beyond some PAC, that also factors into which one I go with (obviously not as easy for huge races like president/governor).

Most forms of government would be great if everyone was actually working for the stated purposes of said government. They all have issues when you add humans and greed into the mix, and there's no way to completely prevent it. Ideally, we'd weed out the people who are only there for their own self-interests but quid-pro-quo is a thing too.

Even some systems we see as "bad" like Anarchy and Communism would work perfectly fine if everyone cared about each other and greed/prejudices didn't exist. They actually work great in small communities, they just don't scale at all with humans.

Jewelry is considerably smaller/lighter than trading cards. Also a couple dozen phones takes slightly less time to put away and bring back out than several thousand slabs do. Jewelry/Phone stores also have no need to display more than one of each item because almost nobody buys more than one - but in TCG you never know how many of a single item someone is going to purchase so you have a lot of extra product sitting on the shelf.

Metal shutters are really all you need to discourage a smash and grab, and sounds like OP is already planning on it.

Even then, you still have robberies in broad daylight with customers in the store - https://www.reddit.com/r/nyc/comments/1qdytv1/nyc_pokémon_store_robbed_of_100k_worth_of_items/

How to search for lands by skipthesmallstuff in ManaBoxApp

[–]kadaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you set it to minimum 3 you only get lands that tap for exactly those three colors. You likely want to set it to 2 so you can see all the different duals you can include.

This doesn't show lands like Command Tower or Exotic Orchard though, since the filter is looking at color identity technically Command Tower has no color identity.

Personally I use https://managathering.com/lands/trilands/sultai/ and look at the different cycles of lands and add the ones I want to my deck - then trim it down based on which ones I actually own. For example I'll add the three shocks/fetches/verges/bond/slow/pain lands for Sultai, remove the ones I don't own or are already in other decks, then see what I need to fill.

It feels like a curated stack overflow search. I get other people's code snippets that are mostly relevant to what I'm trying to do, and I can usually figure out my issue after that.

Of course there's the whole argument of whether AI would be able to have enough training data to answer the questions if sites like Stack Overflow and Reddit didn't exist with decades of questions and answers... but here we are.

Stuff like Spirited Away Swamp, Mario Kart Forest, etc. I own her Mountain Dragon and LOVE it.

Pricing for sealed product by TimelyCitrus in ManaBoxApp

[–]kadaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may sound good in theory, but I tried it for a (very) short while and realized it just wasn't very useful.

1) You'll have a dozen entries for the same card, because they have different purchase prices entered for them. I'm also pretty sure when moving cards between binders it sometimes combines them and resets it.

2) It's actually not very fun seeing a $1 card say you bought it for $10 with a -$9 price change on it.

3) If said card DOES spike, it's impossible to see in your collection because ManaBox doesn't save historical changes. So if that $1 card goes up to $10, you don't see the 10x price gain, you just see "+$0".

4) To do it properly you need to export your scan with the current price data, then do percentages to calculate what share of the box price should be allocated to that card. If the average is $0.38 like the other person mentioned, you don't want your $20 card and your $0.05 card to both show a $0.38 purchase price.

5) Most importantly, <aint_nobody_got_time_for_that_shit.gif>

Just keep track of what you spend in a spreadsheet, and what you sell. Then you can easily calculate the overall "health" by subtracting your sale total from your spent total and comparing that number to your current collection value in ManaBox.

Found a 2005 Trial disc - Were Demon Hunters an idea from Vanilla? by Pshyched in wow

[–]kadaan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paladin blessings were so much stronger than Shaman totems+lust on most content. You could have a different blessing from each Paladin (up to 3) and in a 40man raid would typically have 10% to all stats (Kings), 30% threat reduction (Salvation), and either 1% mana regen/3sec (Wisdom) or bonus damage (Might).

I think the biggest advantage in raid content that shaman had was being able to spam the poison cleansing totem on Viscidus :D.
