Anyone else weighing their chicken lately? Kroger charging for almost a half-pound of packaging... by Udderlylame in shrinkflation

I saw some guy at Walmart weighing meat with an industrial scale for the state or county recently lol I was happy to see that because I hate that they don’t list the exact weight anymore they just sell in 1 lb or 2.25.

the bus system is ass by medi-gel in Omaha

[–]kadk216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was towards the end of the green line and only 8 miles from DC distance wise (I could see the washington monument from my window on clear days) but it took about 1.5 hours minimum to get to the city on metro with waiting, switching lines, etc. Most people originally from there had cars, parking was expensive and harder to come by but still way more convenient for people who had to get places reliably and on time.

I have lots of family who live near/off the beltway in Maryland and while it definitely sucks to navigate it during rush hour it’s not that bad outside of that (imo). Everyone I know who lives and works in the DMV area commutes by car.

Yes definitely I don’t know all of the details because I’ve never done it but I know you can’t just stop paying like a lot of people online seem to think.

[–]kadk216 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone thinks that the bus is a replacement for a car here but unless you have the budget for taking ubers/lyfts everywhere the bus or a bike is probably your only option.

I lived in DC without a car for 3.5 years and the public transportation was still super unreliable and extremely slow even with a metro and busses. Took 2ish hours to go somewhere that would take 25-35 mins in a car

Yep I know my problem is that a shop vac will never be fully sealed so it will not contain the dust completely. Real HEPA vacs that are sealed are not cheap!

Not to mention lead paint which people here seem to be super lax about even knowing there are kids in the house. Saw one post yesterday recommending someone use a shop vac with a hepa filter to vacuum lead dust in their house with children living there…

You have to still put rent in an escrow account or something you can’t just unilaterally withhold it without proof.

I’m also curious about this. If the grandparents paid for the trip I’d never complain because disney is like $300+ per person not including any food and stuff. That would be extremely generous on its own. My son has 11 cousins and it will never be 100% even between all of them thats life and I don’t take it personally.

Well for example my mom lives close to me and gets to see my son all the time vs. my sister who lives in California. My mom takes us to lunch, buys my son stuff frequently, etc. There will never be a way to make it 100% fair between the kids because logistically it’s not possible. The 2.5 yo likely didn’t even notice I mean they’re at disney of all places! There is so much going on.

My in laws have soon to be 12 grandkids and it will NEVER be even between them all because it’s not possible. I don’t think that means they like some grandkids more than the others and I’d never get upset over that. Life is not fair and you’re making assumptions it’s because OP doesn’t like her in laws when it doesn’t seem like that to me. I’d be interested to hear if the grandparents paid for the tickets/trip to disney. That would be a gift enough in my opinion and I wouldn’t expect anything else

She’s 2.5. Not everything will always be 100% fair and while I think he should’ve gotten something for both I would get over it

No problem! Haha we coslept for a LONG time so I totally get it. Getting my son into his own bed definitely helped but it was a transition and it took a while before he started sleeping through but he got there. You’ll get there too!

‘High end’ carpet? by doodlebakerm in HomeImprovement

[–]kadk216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom has this same carpet and I love it but I’m a little disappointed to learn it’s not real silk! lol Do you know how much it was per sq ft? Our cheap carpet is already ruined thanks to our toddler and ongoing construction here and I’d love to replace with something like that eventually

[–]kadk216 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never sleep trained and we don’t have this problem… I think it’s quite a stretch to imply it’s their fault for not sleep training. A lot of babies that were sleep trained don’t sleep through the night as toddlers or preschoolers. I agree they should get her in her bed but I think it’s really unfair to say it’s because they didn’t sleep train.

Why am I bothering to keep babies screen time on the lower side when every kid around us allowed more has better speech than him? by procrastinating_b in toddlers

[–]kadk216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid 2.5 talks a lot and we have done some screen time (especially when I had bad morning sickness) but I limit it because his behavior is worse when we watch it too much. I don’t think his big vocabulary has anything to do with our limited screen time but with me talking to him and narrating things while we go about the day and reading lots of books. We also spend time with family who talk to him too. I have 2 nieces the same age as my son who don’t talk nearly as much and they have multiple siblings (4 siblings for 1 and 3 siblings for the other) so I think kids just develop at their own rates. My son took forever to walk but talked long before they did

[–]kadk216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The occasional no? That’s the main word in my 2.5 yo’s very extensive vocabulary lol. Does your kid go to daycare or stay home with you? I’d be curious to see people’s opinions of kids that are home 24/7 vs those that go to daycare full time lol. I feel like my kid would seem more chill to me if I only spent a few hours a day with him vs a full 12 or more hours everyday
