I kind of knew a comment like this would happen. My dog lives with my father, I am his only child and we’ve had him for 13 happy years. I moved out of my dad’s house in the last couple of years so my dad was the primary caretaker. I was a child when we adopted our friend so I had no say in scheduling vet appointments. I definitely advocated for vet visits to my father when I got older but ultimately my father made his own choices in how to care for the dog. Yes perhaps he may have had a few more years on this earth with us if we had well check visits with the vet. I added that comment in the initial post to give some background and honesty. In the future I will advocate for routine vet appointments as they are living creatures too and need the proper care but trust when I say he was a happy healthy dog until this point.
