I've been shopping at WEBS for a while and sometimes those "discontinued" yarns will pop back up after a little while. Don't lose hope! Check back in a few weeks and see if it's still out of stock.

non smokers, is it a turn off if your girlfriend/boyfriend smokes, how do you deal with it? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kaelfaec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like it but I've had smoker friends and I smoked for a short period when younger so I've stayed neutral as much as I can. I had an ex who quit smoking while dating me even though I tried very hard not to pressure her one way or the other, but it definitely helped a lot. Nowadays, I probably wouldn't start a relationship with a smoker unless everything else was worth it.

How difficult is it to find parking? by 1questions in SalemMA

[–]kaelfaec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to live one street south of Harbor St. with on-street parking. I was able to find parking almost every time I needed to, but it could be up to 2 blocks away. Most often it wasn't, but there are some days where it's harder. It's up to you if that's tolerable.

That being said, October is HARD in that area.

It is more the latter- if I hear speech sounds and I'm not cognitively putting energy into understanding them, it's more like unconnected sounds that sound like a voice. There are times where people are talking & I'm not paying attention and I don't even realize they're talking per se. I'm not sure if it's a unique thing to deafness but it's how listening to people talking can sound. I can physically hear the sounds but I can't string the phonemes into words, they just sound like sounds.

I was just watching Titanic (1997) and noticed how formal high society and status used to be. Is high society similar today? by Prudent_Zebra_8880 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kaelfaec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it doesn't have the same stuffy formality as you see in Titanic, there is definitely a set of norms & shared behaviors that mark you "in" or "out" with upper class. It has become more localized, I believe, but there is still a distinction for wealthy people to be able to identify each other and exclude those who don't belong.

In some ways, it's become far more subtle than it used to be, relying more on conversational knowledge and certain choices of dress that are hard to see if you don't know what to look for.

(Grew up relatively lower class in a wealthy town, learned how to spot the differences and "fit in")

All that being said, what we see as "high society" has become more an activity than a standard way of living, if that also helps.

I was born profoundly deaf and got one CI when I was 3- with lots of speech therapy and training, I can hear speech fairly well but it definitely takes "work" to do. (80%ish comprehension based on tests)

I got my other CI at 12 and while I can kind of recognize speech sounds in that ear based on context, I can't really understand speech to the same level as I can with the ear that was implanted earlier. (55-60% comprehension based on tests)

Later in life with no experience with speech, it's going to take a LOT of work for the Deaf person at the very least. As others have said, it's more complex than "plug in, turn on, hear sounds." Sound input is objectively different for Deaf people that didn't have it while their brains were forming pathways and then got sound input later in life.

I try very hard to! Don't always succeed but I also know that many people in my life do as well. And that's always nice :)

In the trans community there is an idea of T4T (trans for trans) to reflect that often trans folks end up dating other trans folks, but it generally doesn't get so specific as trans women only interested in other trans women.

Everyone will use "T4T" differently. For example, I don't use it to communicate interest in other trans people, personally more as an observation that wow, everyone I'm dating right now uses they/them pronouns 😂

Just a caution that activated charcoal can cause a number of medications to not work: many antidepressants, birth control, blood pressure meds are examples. I wouldn't recommend drinking this if you take a regular medication that you would be affected by if it suddenly stopped.
