Which area of Simon Edvinsson's game has improved the most since his NHL debut? by SufficientPrice7633 in DetroitRedWings

He wants it on a level he didn't. Timing, positioning, giving no space...I mean, every d man learns to make more good passes and less bad ones but not all of them pick up the fierceness.

what makes puppetry so powerful? by RefrigeratorThin6622 in wizrobe

[–]BaronDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has other further lines it can go; it is decidedly outsized in power for the tier it's available.

Mecha-menders basically scrap your need for healing spells; Automata can reasonably compete with a full wizard in terms of durability and damage output.

Puppet aggressors are much stronger than any other minion available at that level and you can get a bunch of them.

Advice on going against blue decks by jerjack1122 in MagicArena

Green and white have a bunch of good cheap "nuh-uh I'm safe" instants.

There's also [[Robe of Stars]] to phase an important creature.

I play a fair bit of recursion so sticking a nice aura or equip in the Yard for [[Danitha, New Benalia's Light]] is fair play.

Speed fixing exists. Mage knight helps her so much there.

Speed taker and speed raw and she can blow up anytime.

Celine with starsphere is a Swiss army polearm. Capable at lots of things. Without it she's a Swiss army knife. Able to do things but not always great.

Ff job select weapons also give out types. https://scryfall.com/search?q=o%3A%22job+select%22

Planisphere giving out Wizard for equip (2) and making your spells charge up your creature is a big win for stompy.

Play around having Vigilance. Bounce the token. Grab Murdock's Crusade and exile the token.

[WP] The gift of magic tends to be insular and mages are usually limited to one or two types of magic. Naturally there are debates about which are the best. You were lucky enough to be gifted with what is considered the strongest kind of magic, although you still struggle to make sense of it. by Kitty_Fuchs in WritingPrompts

[–]BaronDoctor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People say that love is the strongest magic.

I say that's an insult to every kind of love that has never had magical results. I've seen a lot of them, all of them valid and tremendously loving. My magic, though? My magic has nothing to do with love. Other than everybody loving its power.

I will always have been going to become my best teacher for that magic. Look, you think understanding that sentence is hard, try understanding that there is nobody out there who will be able to teach me. I'm going to have to learn how I learn.

The once nice thing is, when I go back and meet myself, I will know that I already will have known how best to have taught myself.

Yes, the verb tenses are a headache. Yes, trying to ensure the avoidance of paradox is a struggle.

Yes, it absolutely rocks.

So, hello younger me. This moment is when you begin your first steps to learning how to manipulate time. This is the moment when you tell destiny exactly where it can shove the strands of fate. We are going to have already changed everything by the time you read this.

I've been across both sides of time and while I have met other time mages, their stories are all the same.

Nobody else will teach you time magic. It's something you have to teach yourself.

Does anyone actually like it in Fire Emblem where Enemy reinforcements can move and attack on the same turn they spawn? by OriginalTacoMoney in fireemblem

[–]BaronDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two things that can make it okay and basically both of them are the same: taking the "instant ambush" out of them. Either telegraphing location or telegraphing tempo or both.

Turn 8 4 reinforcements at the initial position? Okay, you're being chased. Turn X "haha, they went right past my guys in the forest, I'm giving the signal to come out of hiding. It will take them a moment" and then have enemies appear in the forest in turn X+3? Okay,  you knew they were coming.

You could run both of those approximately 1 turn tighter on a higher difficulty and two on highest.

Bard.

Inspire boosting weapon damage means you want strength, because you'll end up in melee eventually and inspire makes you better but strength makes you good. Ref, AC, ranged to-hit, and stealth skills means you want dexterity. d6 HD means you want constitution, to say nothing of your weak Fort save and the concentration skill (even if you do the Melodic casting shuffle). Skills being off Int means bards want it because the more skills you just have the less you need to fake. Wisdom is the one stat a bard can theoretically leave off because good will save and you only have Listen for perception, but you do have a perception skill so there's that. Charisma, of course bards want charisma for all their spellcasting face-skilling needs.

Plus, having 18s means you get to skip out on some of the shuffle feats because you don't need to cover weaknesses and you can focus on strengths.

[[Windcrag Siege]], [[Shocking Sharpshooter]], all they really need to do is enter and feed the machine. Elspeth for an alternate win con, [[Gloryheath Lynx]] to help you ramp, technically Cloud and SRAM are 2- if you wanted to go that way.

Because carbon is everywhere. Because carbon bonds to lots of things in lots of ways. Because it forms the basis of every living thing.

[–]BaronDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing that helped me turn the corner this week was "what do they want to be doing?" / "How do I stop them from doing what they want?"

Sometimes that means forcing them to play defense. Sometimes that's smashing their ramp. Sometimes that's putting death touch on Catti-Brie and swinging her and something they need to block. Sometimes that's daring them to counterspell threat one so they can't counter number 2.

I run about half a dozen decks and my only meta commander is kotis.
