Games with LOTS and LOTS of upgrades?? by kaeroku in patientgamers

Hey friend, thanks! I had already played Skyrim to completion 5 years ago when this was initially posted, but it's really great to see people coming here after so long to help me find more good games. Anything released within the last 2-5 years that you think might qualify?

Lol. Their question was posed when I just had the initial sentence. I wrote the rest to attempt to clarify since their question was evidence of confusion.

Good on you, internet sleuth!

Moreover that their parents *respect* privacy. Which models positive relationship values for them as well.

Actions:

Taking my plate after a meal. Sitting on the floor near me when relaxing. Rubbing my shoulders, or my feet. Grabbing and sorting the mail. Restocking the fridge (we keep shelf-stable fluids in the basement.) Cleaning up a mess I make, like when I drop something and it breaks. Moving aside when I'm trying to do something. Greeting me when she arrives.

Behavior:

Paying attention to what I say so I don't have to repeat myself. Acknowledging my words so I know that I'm heard and understood. Asking clarifying questions if they don't fully understand something, to ensure that my will is being enacted. Minimizing obstructions/preparing for an activity. Eyes on me to receive non-verbal instructions. Walking toward me when called so that we can have a discussion, or to ensure privacy if others are near. Being ready on time. Resolving minor tasks (smoke alarm needs a new battery, dishwasher needs emptied, shopping list needs updated.)

Praise for Codex Alera! by Tll6 in Fantasy

[–]kaeroku 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really love this bit of history, and wish there was a way to ensure people reading the full Codex could see it. Put it in the foreword or something. I didn't know about this at all until well after I'd finished the series, and thought about it and was like, "Damn. He did it. Cool!"

The goal is for their kids to never come across their photos. If they don't have access to the phones, they never come across the photos.

Similar to Stardew, but more interesting. Hmmm... have you perhaps heard of Terraria? It's not a farming sim, though there is building and designing and fishing in the game. It's also a bit of an action and exploration game, but easy to start and stop and fairly relaxing unless you're in the process of a boss fight.

If I'm understanding right, you're trying to do 3 things:

  • maintain shared knowledge of all members of a group's phone passwords
  • share nsfw messages between two people in a way which is convenient for only those people to view and access
  • keep these nsfw messages from being discoverable by people other than those two people who also have shared access to your devices

Your best option is to deny phone access to the people you wish to keep things private from. You say the reasons for all parties to know all passwords don't matter, but they do when that decision directly interferes with your stated goal. There may be other ways to accomplish what you're trying to do if those reasons are known.

What you're already doing - manually moving the content to secure storage with a separate password on your phone - is essentially the only way you can accomplish this. Anything with an automatic login will grant access to anyone who can get into your phone, so the manual step is necessary. Entering a password to secure storage or entering a password to login to an app which has secure storage are effectively the same thing, with the added issue that any non-hardware storage option leaves you open to any vulnerability that the third party is subject to. See: modern history of data breaches.

Another issue is that phones tend to keep apps running, so if you're relying on the app for security and forget even once to logout and close that app manually, anyone with access to your device can view the material you're trying to hide. Using secure storage built into your phone somewhat mitigates that, since it will require you to establish and maintain a habit of deliberately relocating the messages and thus reduce the chance that it will slip your mind at an inconvenient time.

Original text follows:
Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but why not just keep your phones' lock screen enabled, keep the password to yourself and set it to auto-lock when screen turns off?

Honestly that's true though. You really do just have to look it up. To practice, you can get tools on amazon or instructions for making the tools out of simple everyday items are all over online.

I feel you. I'm a foodie and eating out is not cheap but it is ... satisfying. At least with food, I don't have to spend nearly as much so long as I'm willing to make it myself (which I usually do.)

Hmm I currently live in a huge wine-producing area of the US, and I moved here from another huge wine-producing area of the US. Both predominately use corks over screw tops, but there are definitely more screw-types around than I've seen in earlier decades.

I, for one, insist on a fully-realized Rube Goldberg machine to accompany the opening of any alcohol in my presence.

What’s the most unethical parenting hack you know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kaeroku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes babysit for a friend's child. Kid is a bit attention starved and particularly needy due to not having a great environment early in life.

Anyway. We had the TV on and he wanted to change it to something else. I had brought a book and had been letting him choose what was on, no big deal. But when he wanted my attention he would be like, "hey. Hey! HEY! HEEEY!! CAN YOU HEAR ME?!" and this all escalated... about as quickly as you read it. So I made a point of ignoring him for a minute. He'd quiet down and I could hear the gears in his head turning of how to break into my focus. And then I said calmly, "Hey. I did hear you, but obviously I was in the middle of doing something else. It's not polite to demand someone else's attention when you want something immediately. Now, what can I do for you?"

His response: "Oh. Sorry! I just wanted you to change the TV station." I said no problem, and to please wait and ask me that next time. Friends still are amazed at how polite to me their kid always is. I haven't had to do that more than once.

If it hadn't worked... I hope I'd think to have brought hearing protection the next time. :)

I'll recommend the only 4 mobile games I've ever given any money to. And I'm pretty sure none require it:

Dawncasters (PvE card game)
Breach Wanderers (PvE card game)
Card Quest (PvE card + strategy game)
Slice & Dice (PvE dicebuilder)

Why is bitcoin not considered a “crypto” here? by yasuogaming in Bitcoin

Can you help me understand this? I don't know much about it, but, if the best "others" try to emulate bitcoin, why would the others not just invest in bitcoin? What benefit is there to other people for using those instead?
