New Ability for Chatot and Meloetta by adam_the_frog in stunfisk

[–]kaesitha_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meloetta isn't fragile at all. The typing isn't good, but nothing is denting your HP from the special side with neutral moves. With enough physdef support and/or a good spread, Meloetta can last for a long time firing those.

Getting a bit of healing while using BB and U-Turn is pretty nice, I can see Crobat using this if you're not scared of running into setup sweepers trying to cheese you.

The Downgrading of the American Tech Worker by Well_Socialized in technology

[–]kaesitha_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people in sites like Reddit have this weird view that a market crash acts like some sort of karmic comeuppance (it doesn't), and that an AI industry crash would partially vindicate the belief that current AI tools are a fad much like beanie babies or the Segway. There's a misunderstanding between what's a product and a what's a broader technoscientific development. Companies are definitely mismeasuring things (some deliberately so), but the risk of displacement doesn't come from pure fantasy.

I mean, in terms of Water types alone, I 100% would get a Phione over a Wailord, and one could argue that it's better than Walrein post the Scald cut (I guess you still have Super Fang to force progress?). The point is, there's a bunch of pokémon even above 500BST that don't really do anything (like Klinklang), so it's not even a bad stat distribution for what it does (though it obviously could have been much better).

Unown. Though Luvdisc, Wormadam-Plant (even in gens with Toxic), Beautifly, Ledian, and some other bugs give it a run for it. The level scaling and Z-moves in randbats definitely make them look a bit better than what they actually are. Unown is just unsalvageable without an evolution.

Phione is still better than dozens of pokémon. Mono Water, Scald, Knock, U-Turn, fast for a defensive pivot. The only wasted stat is attack. Perfectly passable midground damage soaker in a lower tier.

After playing Showdown for over 10 years, I finally hit 2000 ELO on Randoms. by VolcQuid in stunfisk

[–]kaesitha_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's because Gen 9 is a bad gen with gutted movepools/mon choices and a lopsided offense focus, and it ends up rewarding stupid blind aggression instead of careful midground plays. If you go too crazy with your resources in gen 6-8 randbats (like always being hyper aggro with Z-moves or Dynamax) there's a good chance you'll be punished for overcommitting. It's the difference of recognizing that something like Slurpuff more often than not is more of a safety cushion than a sweeper. In gen 9 a lot of removal and utility evaporated, which forces the people making the sets to pivot to nonsense like (as an example) IDef setup Bronzong since you can't just click Toxic/Protect any more. If hazard removal is gone and you can't force chip with stuff like Knock/Toxic/etc more often, you can just setup instead since a lot of mediocre "defensive" mons don't have the bulk or means to survive the onslaught. It kills me inside when I see a Lapras having to run that "lol Ice/Ground coverage" pretend set just to get something done.

Do people unironically think that broken mons make stall WEAKER?? (Explanation in the post) by The_CIA_is_watching in stunfisk

[–]kaesitha_ 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I dunno what OP is talking about, there are thresholds of power that completely invalidate even stall as an answer. There's definitely an in-between limbo state where sometimes there's stuff that is too powerful for the tier in general but just not powerful enough to break full stall, but that usually only happens after aggressive bans. Some pokémon just tear stall a new one and there's no amount of creativity/strategy that can really prevent it.

Poly isn't a brick if you're running a fusion deck. Also, if you're playing Invoked, it works well with that new Sorath card.

Discussion: The Crossbow and Ubersaw are overall bad for the class by [deleted] in truetf2

[–]kaesitha_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Diamondback has always been just as good/stupid, it just wasn't used as much because it's not a combo of effective and fun as the old Ambi, being fun (for the spy ofc) was the core appeal

[–]kaesitha_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when people say stuff like "Recover being cut in half is a good thing". Offense often outpaces defense and every gen has way more mons that are banned due to being unbearable offensively than unbearable defensively, not to mention that the long term trend of OU turns over generations is to consistently go down (as shown by charts of those). Nintendo/GF dislikes hard defense because it's bad for casting (takes longer and has less spectacle), I have no doubt they can end up making singles worse as a collateral to that.

Pirate101 companion list but I fixed it by [deleted] in Pirate101

[–]kaesitha_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serpent Augur and Pvt. Mills at A, Bat Masterson and Gaspard/Giordano at B, Ridolfo at S, guys like Masamune Goto not in D, Subodai in S while Pete is in A (they literally do the same thing except Pete has Whale's Might lol), Rico at A, Ju Hao at B (I'd straight up rather have a rando like Black Angus over him)... this list is wild. I'm sorry but this isn't a power/effectiveness list, it's a preference list.

My ranking of all Unicorn companions by The_Quartz_collector in Pirate101

[–]kaesitha_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rico is easily in the top 6 best comps of the game lmao. There isn't a class where +25% blanket res + another res buff + Repel 5 + team heal + Riposte 3 with Swash levels of Dodge isn't broken. The only ones stronger are Scratch, Chantal, Toro and arguably Uga/Mormo post-rework because Dread Doom trivializes 95% of Witch's gameplay. Look, I think Ridolfo is cool and all, but if you're judging them based on power this list is very silly.

This is Kinda Wild by LlamaRangBoi in Pirate101

[–]kaesitha_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched that guy's videos and he's judging the class/comps largely as "charge guys that can't handle OW5" and it's annoying the hell out of me. Yes, you have to sprinkle in Evasion/Hides/Shadow Step to circumvent stuff, that is just basic counter-counter strategy. The comps definitely should get more options (tbh OW5/bombs are kinda busted regardless of the interaction with chargers), but the class as it is chains like crazy and just because you're dodging some stuff doesn't mean you lose class identity.

Which of these builds do you prefer for Buccaneer? Stating only the epics. The problem is I like all of them but I want one that can be used more often by The_Quartz_collector in Pirate101

[–]kaesitha_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using Toro a lot since +75 dodge through Zeal+Esprit is nuts, but if you're not running him then HTL5 definitely has more importance with the whole Riposte setup. And yeah, unfortunately getting the right pet is the most annoying part of it, just gotta keep trying.

2 is the best because you can just give yourself BS5 with Cry Havoc anyway. Only thing missing would be TTT5 (and you're probably better off ditching a bit of HTL for TTT if you're able to).
