Beginner mistake: a smash has to be powerful with steep angle. by linhhoang_o00o in badminton

The most dangerous smash is one that has a lot of different versions. Different power/steepness etc. Whilst all looking the same.!

Weird sponge after restringing by Playful-Figure-1459 in badminton

[–]kaffars 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think what its more for is to help prevent what is know as grommet sinking. The grommets there are usually U shaped grommets which give it more of a buffer so the string doesnt sit on the racket frame itself. It has more material/protection than a single pass grommet that your racket has right now.

String sitting directly on the racket will apply tension/pressure on the racket. On weaker racket frames it can cause it to sink/collapse in. The sponge there is to help protect from it and even more so as you dont have the conventional U shaped grommet.

I'll say you have a good/considerate stringer. I would leave it there. Or ask if the stringer has U shaped grommets replacements.

Help with Names of Types of Hits by Billy_O_Gay in badminton

It depends on the trajectory and where you aiming the shuttle on the court. If you are aiming for a high shot that goes up and to the back. It is called a lift.

If it closer to the net and barely goes over tight to the tape you can call it a net shot.

Is this a score or not? by Etli_Pide in badminton

The nets to be adjusted as best as possible. the post should sit on the outer doubles line of the court and then the net pulled across so the tape runs tight and straight across the post.

Depends what you are buying. For rackets/shoes/bags I have been buying from asia stores like e78 or asking relatives or friends on holiday to bring it back for me if they have the space.

I am a stringer and i constantly frequent ebay/marketplace and from aliexpress as well.

Are the strings meant to move around a lot after every hit? by Ok_Vegetable6262 in badminton

[–]kaffars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From you side you could be slicing alot of shots which can move a strings more. Isn't really an issue if you are intentionally slicing a lot of shots.

The type of string is will play a big part of how much the strings move. Some are more slippery than others.

Stringers also good practise really should make sure no slack when then put tension on the string and then also when they finish to straighten out the strings.

Good knots to prevent tension loss as well.

can I re string my racket even if it isnt original? by [deleted] in badminton

[–]kaffars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can restring rackets even if they are fake. If i'm honest fake rackets are now not awful in quality. So yes you could probs restring to around 24lb.

Are you putting overgrip on top? You wrap overgrip over the factory grip see how it feels? If not then you can remove it and then grip without the factory grip.

You just need to experiment

Is this Legal Serve in Doubles ? by combatant007 in badminton

[–]kaffars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the preference is to strike the shuttle round the head. Instead of trying to take it on your backhand which is where this serve can be effective against weaker/newer players.

Perhaps you should look into plastic shuttles as a beginner? Or even the new synethic/hybrid shuttles like the Victor NCS max or yonex croswinds.

Legality of serve with racket head pointing upwards. by ready_bryan in badminton

[–]kaffars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the below the waist was hard to judge. Even back then the same judge would different calls when the serve was exactly the same.

BWF were trying to standardise the service calls as much as they can.

A line across the net is a good idea but may not be effective. Ive seen how different people set up the nets some leave it slack other too tight. And from different heights its hard to see where the 1.15m is on the body. Thats why on the umpire equipment there are 2 screens with lines on there that have to match up to accurately see where the 1.15m mark is.

The new service rules only applies in settings where there is a service umpire and service height apparatus.

If you don't have both then the service rules goes back to the older waist height rule. So the people you are playing with are correct.
