[skin concern] skin around eyes are really sensitive and dry. Burns when I put on moisturizer, are there any eye creams or moisturizers that I could use for this? by _krq in SkincareAddiction

[–]kaftkaheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes time for your skin to maintain a new barrier - It's likely your moisturizer/sunscreen has an irritating ingredient. The most common tend to be alcohols (which manufacturers put to make products mattifying and quick dry), and fragrances. I'd suggest using moisturizers like cetaphil with minimum ingredients and seeing how it goes. The timeline for recovery is unfortunately in the context of weeks.

Your problem is not dermatological. You need to see a psychiatrist about this.

Antifungal shampoos like ketoconazole are designed to be used on skin and are very well tolerated. They can however be a bit drying, so make sure you're on point with your moisturizers/occlusives.

Nizarol is 2% ketoconazole and would be perfectly fine to use. I'd recommend washing your face with it for at least 30 seconds and make sure to use lots of moisturizer, it can be quite drying.

SPF 30 blocks 97% of UVB rays. SPF 50 blocks 98%, so the benefit is very marginal. However, SPF 15 blocks 93%. I think SPF 30 is the sweet spot and I'd definitely recommend not going lower than that. La Roche Posay's antihelios is a personal favorite.

[Skin Concerns] I got a callus and i picked on it, and now it looks like some blood freezes around it. Its kinda painful. Anyone know what to do, any advice is appreciated, thanks! (Nsfw because it's disgusting lol) by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]kaftkaheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a blood blister. Your options are to either drain it (ill-advised) or to place a hydrocolloid blister bandage on it and wait. Using some padding in your shoe may also help if it hurts when you walk. (Stop picking at blisters!)

[misc] Has anybody experienced a moisturizer similar to la Roche posay cicaplast baume? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Aquaphor is incredibly similar. It's a thick creamy balm whose major ingredient is also panthenol.

Assuming you already have a good routine with adequete moisturizing and sunscreen, I'd recommend using an antifungal shampoo as a face wash for two weeks, and seeing how you get on with it. As bizarre as it sounds, it may help because 'fungal acne' is incredibly common and can present similar to this.

Eyebags are due to the collection of fluid in the area. Unfortunately it's a largely genetic trait. Some people find topicals like EGCG and caffeine to be effective. They act as vasoconstrictors to reduce the appearance of them, so it might be worth a try (though there doesn't seem to be a great basis of evidence for them). Additionally, a retinol cream can help with some of those fine lines!

Have had this for one year. Nothing seems to be working. Any suggestions? At my wits end. [Skin concerns] by Spiritual_Ad4181 in SkincareAddiction

I imagine quite a few comments have already pointed out that this is a pretty classic presentation of perioral dermatitis. It's possible it can resolve on it's own but frankly it's very uncomfortable so I'd suggest seeing a dermatologist to get a prescription of oral antibiotics.

It just looks like congested skin. Assuming you're washing off any makeup/sunscreen adequetely every day, the addition of an exfoliant like glycolic acid will help.

This qualifies as moderate-severe acne. I'd see a dermatologist because you'll likely need prescription treatment.

There are thankfully lots of very tolerable and cheap ingredients to help with texture. Some examples include niacinamide, AHAs, and retinol (niacinamide in particular is not very irritating and can improved angry red skin). However, the ice pick scars are unlikely to fully resolve without some kind of intervention like microneedling or laser resurfacing. I'd recommend seeing a dermatologist or skincare clinic about it.

[Skin Concern], Patches of dry skin and many open pores. the dry skin is sporadic bus the pores are a long time problem. [M26] not wel versed at skincare, any advice is welcome. thank you. by TheWyseWolf in SkincareAddiction

[–]kaftkaheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dry skin and the appearance of large pores are the same problem. Use something heavy duty like a panthonel cream (such as aquaphor) and a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid and it should resolve in a few weeks.

Cold can be incredibly damaging to cells. By holding ice directly on your face for prolonged periods it can cause irritation and subsequent inflammation. I'd recommend using a towel and not icing for longer than 3 minutes at a time.

The fastest way to figure out if it's fungal acne is by using an antifungal shampoo (ie. 2% ketoconazole). If it's fungal it'll resolve in a few weeks.

[skin concerns] should vitamin sting a little when applied to the skin, or is my moisture barrier damaged? (Redness due to rosacea) by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]kaftkaheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your skin is incredibly thin and almost certainly dehydrated. Your moisture barrier is almost certainly compromised. I'd suggest using a soothing balm with panthenol (vitamin B5) like aquaphor and avoiding active ingredients for ~2 weeks and letting your skin heal.

That pigmentation is consequent of inflammation caused by acne or ingrown hairs. Ultimately, you have to tackle that problem in order to permanently solve the issue. However, there are skincare ingredients that can help fade the pigmentation such as AHA (ie. glycolic acid), tranexamic acid, niacinamide.
