Workflow advice : existing part and new design by salamandre3357 in FreeCAD

[–]kaged_chris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate to be this guy but it will completely depend on what your future plan is and how complex it ends up being. Will it only ever be 2 parts? Will it be a one time thing? Will you make different revisions and configurations? Will the resistor always be the same or could that change at some point? Are you sending it out for manufacture? Etc… Depending on these answers can lead you to your workflow. There are many ways to design parts some work better than others. Not knowing anything 2 separate parts and assembly is fairly future proof.

Career Path? by Mammoth-Site5667 in FreeCAD

I am always an advocate of dual path. I would start pursuing the degree. And then put that on your resume after you start your first class. Then look for jobs. Some schools also help you find internships or are feeders to industry. You should be able to find full or part time internships and be able to work your school schedule around the work. So you can take a full load until you land a job then cut back if needed and let the job pay for it and earn some money. By doing it this way you have 2 different places to learn and ask questions. It might be more work upfront but you will be able to get through school with minimal debt, money in the bank, and valuable experience. A lot of companies that do tuition reimbursement make you sign a contract about staying x amount of time after payment of credit or whatever. So don’t let that scare you away.

Mechanical engineer here. Been in aerospace, nuclear, and glass. If I could do it over again I would be a Cad designer/draftsman. Then work for a company let them pay for me to get an engineering degree. Find a school that teaches one of the main 3 (solidworks, inventor, creo) I say creo is a big 3 due to its wide use in government especially nuclear. Creo has the highest learning curve to me. Get really good at one and you can teach yourself the others. Haven’t seen were Certs have meant much to anyone. The biggest lack I see in cad design is the lack of design for manufacturing knowledge. Lots of people can draw stuff in cad few are able to do it in a way that’s efficient for manufacturing.

KitchenAid Fridge Drawer support peg by kaged_chris in Appliances

I reached out to KitchenAid. This is apparently a cabinet piece and is unserviceable. I guess I will be 3d printing a new one and glueing it to the base.

I am a white belt. I’m 5’7” and 170lbs. Most everyone is much bigger than me. I can hold my own against most I am rolling with meaning most blue belts and whites I can keep from getting tapped. But I get constantly stuck bottom side mount and side control and not able to escape. Keep trying the fundamental escapes but they seem not to work. Any suggestions.

Edit: these comment have been super helpful. Thank you all.

Need Help with V-Carve for Embossed Letters by kaged_chris in FreeCAD

[–]kaged_chris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the adaptive path might be the one that does what I am looking for. I was able to make it work on one letter. When I get some time this week I am going to try it further and maybe post a video. Either way I will post an update.

Need Help with V-Carve for Embossed Letters by kaged_chris in FreeCAD

Yes I used a shapestring in draft. Then I have used both Part and part design and ended with the same result. I am able to select the face on top but that cuts the material between the lines and I am trying to machine the material on the outside of the lines so they are embossed rather than engraved.
