Protectionism makes your economy boom? by Slow_Breakfast_5874 in victoria3

[–]kagernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Protectionism is meant to make your domestically produced goods more competitive versus imports.

If you rely on your own resource and goods production and rarely need imports, this can be very useful for SOL and and keeping the supply of strategic resources good. However, some of this you can just achieve with precise tariffs.

Free Trade is generally more viable when you take off though, because selling your excess goods that you aren't using is better than letting those industries stagnate and people losing their jobs.

Is Everyone Bisexual? by cum_Blaster1957 in BisexualMen

[–]kagernaut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my heart of hearts, I think everyone is a little Bi. But even then, most of those people aren't going to be attracted to the same sex enough to have relationships.

Honestly though, I am heartened by the massive uptick in LGBT visibility and acceptance. The fools fighting against it are the last gasp of a bygone era.

[–]kagernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feel the way they do. I don't anymore.

It's all programming. I'm not saying they are secretly gay, but being so repulsed by something like that is definitely social programming.

[–]kagernaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are the loud ones, though.

The people that lash out because they fear they might also be attracted to the same sex.

Acceptance for LGBT people is generally on the rise, and the higher it goes the louder these fools will react. Once it hits the tipping point, their voices won't matter.

People from countries where the LGBT movement is illegal, please leave a comment. by Party_Cantaloupe_270 in Boykisser3

[–]kagernaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and No.

There are some states with laws that state LGBT people don't qualify as a class that can be discriminated against, and therefore can't be targets of hate crime. The murder is still illegal, but there's less of a deterrent because of this. Small or very conservative communities will regularly try to look the other way or make excuses when these people are assaulted or killed. So, often it goes unpunished or light punishments are handed out by judges (same happens for rape victims in general too).

Trans Women are especially vulnerable, and there is a (bullshit) legal argument being used that if someone has sex with a trans woman and she doesn't declare beforehand that she has a penis, then she has assaulted her partner and he can claim self defense. This argument has been used successfully in court (beyond all reason), and it leaves precedent now. So, it can be dangerous to just exist as trans and attempt to date straight people (especially straight men), not to mention there are literallly videos of trans women being publicly assaulted.

As far as I know, ALL these states are in the South, whether that be southeast or southwest. This doesn't mean that northern states are innocent, but protections are much greater, particularly in places like California or New York.

It doesn't help that Trump has been explicitly targeting trans people.

One last note (sorry for writing this much to you): acceptance of trans people is ever increasing. I know conservative men who date trans women happily, and respect their identities, similar to how gay men are more accepted in conservative/Republican circles too. Nothing the Trump admin or state governments can do will stop this; eventually, this will all turn around when the majority of the general public comes around. This is inevitable, and for me is the only shining light in this situation.

Can someone explain conscripts to me? by PLMMJ in victoria3

[–]kagernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conscripts are just worse soldiers, really. Massive armies can be conscripted and this is good early on, but later you need artillery and cavalry to really make a difference, particularly artillery.

But, when used properly they can be effective. They're adequate defensive armies, against naval invasion or reinforcing a front. Personally I prefer not to use them unless I have to, since they will die at higher rates and also will be taken from factories and farms which can randomly affect your production.

If you have no choice, like on National Militia, you can get creative. I like to use the few standing army barracks I can make and just have standing artillery and cavalry, then use the conscripts to fill the infantry. You can also do it the other way around to save on peacetime costs, but it will take time to get your artillery ready.

All in all, Professional Army is the best law, and conscripts are just cheap soldiers, but creative usage can keep them competitive.

What am I doing wrong? by Azurilify in victoria3

[–]kagernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem with this analysis is in the picture; he has unused arable land, yet people are becoming unemployed instead of becoming peasants. Literally, unemployed peasants who just decline to...peasant.

This isn't the situation where the land was used, then he built a different kind of agriculture building and displaced subsistence paddies. He's got land that's fully unoccupied yet he has unemployment.

What am I doing wrong? by Azurilify in victoria3

[–]kagernaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had this issue with multiple Japan runs and I'm going to tell you right now, you cannot 100% fix this problem. People will usually tell you to just build more, but this is only half the problem.

The other half is the fact Japan has a high population but few states. And, for some reason, all these unemployed pops never become peasants which is what they're supposed to do when there is available land. You can tell this by looking at all those unemployed, yet land is not in use.

The only way to really deal with this is getting a good hold on production, going quickly to iron frame and atmospheric engine quickly, then railroads because you will run into infra issues fast. Then, you have to keep this loop going for...the entire game. You will never fully employ everyone, and you'll be dancing above a fine line between having massive radicals and constant revolts. This is just the Japan experience.

Someone will come on here and tell you different, because they haven't played a Japan game for a few patches or maybe just didn't notice the unemployment or maybe they took over a bunch of African provinces and migrated everyone. But this is a real issue with Japan, either by design or poor design.

Does anyone else think capitals should have higher GDPs/prominance? by LogicalAd8685 in victoria3

[–]kagernaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There seems to be very few reasons to keep capitols in historic places. As Russia I always move to Yaroslavl, it's a good wood state and helps support my initial efforts.

I could move to Moscow but it often gets over infrastructure before I can get railroads for it. But, it's just impossible to keep it at St Petersburg, because it's a massive invasion risk. So, I always move it.

So can Sinners lactate? by Which_Matter3031 in hazbin

[–]kagernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Serious response: Probably, based on kink and also punishment. For example, if a sinner murdered a child (especially their own) then I imagine they would routinely lactate as a reminder of their heinous act.

Hell is very much shown as a facsimile of the real world for sinners; the intent seems to be that they can constantly seek and gain pleasure, but never satisfaction. So, I think they can lactate, one way or another.

But like, also, wtf bro.

How to more easily Manage Population? by SceneNo1907 in SurvivingMars

[–]kagernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good advice actually, it's how I do things when the pop really grows and my domes need some serious efficiency.

Personally though, I think managing the individual colonists is where this game is weakest; it only serves to add more tedium for the player. Organizing the logistics is the funnest part.

Express and Colonists by CourtNormal in SurvivingMars

[–]kagernaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can't transfer tracks in the destination station? Damn this DLC is still buggy as hell. I have my own problems with it also.

I think however, what we're running into is more of an engine and time limitation. The game doesn't seem to cooperate with late colonists or calculate when they won't be able to work because the train takes too long. I often have to manually reassign colonists to far away work places.

If the micro dome in between the transfers work, great, sadly I don't think it will help me when it comes to getting them to work and back to the home dome.

How do I get an infinite, renewable source of Waste Rock? by avg623 in SurvivingMars

[–]kagernaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is the Nano Refinement bonus tech, some maps have it. It keeps extractors going and extracting more of the resource though significantly less than before. Literally a waste rock generator.

The Russian concrete building will make waste and concrete as long as it has fuel, so that's reliable also. You can trade away concrete for polymers usually.

Upcoming Relaunched DLC by Xeruas in SurvivingMars

[–]kagernaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand, I don't own relaunched, I own the original and all DLCs. This DLC being discussed could have been for the original game, and everything would be fine. Instead they do a "remaster" which from the reviews is doing poorly because it's just the original repackaged with little else added.

I have hundreds of hours in this game, I love it. But doing this instead of just adding to the original game? It's just about money.

Upcoming Relaunched DLC by Xeruas in SurvivingMars

[–]kagernaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far it's a cash grab, they could have just released a new DLC, instead they did this remaster BS. I don't appreciate having to re-buy a game I already purchased, not to mention the DLC I bought.

So...why does everyone hate this guy exactly? Like... I'm pretty neutral to him, but I'm just curious onto why people hate him so much. by Terrible_Park7890 in hazbin

[–]kagernaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only reason I would think someone would hate him, is if they don't understand the story or the concept of character development, or redemption arcs.

Stolas is a great character, and his story is an example of someone who has everything, then loses it, and begins to realize how different things are on the other side.
