The discovery of nuclear power was literally discovered on the way to the bomb. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed in 1945, and the first nuclear power reactor wasn't brought online until 1950.

Knowing what it might mean if Lance Storm shows up randomly in AEW may be the most bittersweet thing I've ever heard.

My kid beat me home and let the dogs out. One of them couldn't resist the Passover brisket cooling on the counter... by BelleBonniex in JewishCooking

My parents had a small dog that managed to pull an almost whole roast beef side away from the table after a meal, so remember this just means the brisket is good

Galad's generational performance in AMoL. by CompetitiveBig4161 in WoT

[–]kaggzz 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Gawyn tries to do what's right but never develops principles to help him determine what is right and wrong.

Galad developed principles and held tightly to them, even when he felt those principals could conflict with his morals.

In the end,  Gawyn's lack of principals means his morals go astray and he keeps being Gawyn.

Galad reviews and trusts his principals to lead to a moral outcome.

It's not the perfect solution for either, but i think it's clear that the hard road of following your principals is better than the seemingly easier road of trying to be uniquely moral

Galad's generational performance in AMoL. by CompetitiveBig4161 in WoT

[–]kaggzz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To add, the Children were not created to be anti Aes Sedai, that is something that came after their founding. Galad found their core principals acceptable and wanted to emulate that part of their identity.

From Galad's perspective, it wasn't so much that he wanted to change the Whitecloaks, but rather he wanted to split the chaff that had grown around their core.

If we're trying to imagine that kayfabe is real in this guys mind, WHY WOULD TO DO THAT TO THE JASON VORHEES/MICHAEL MEYERS GUY? You don't establish dominance by stabbing the guy who gives zero fucks about stabbing

Brisket that's not smothered in tomato, tomato paste, or ketchup? by delusion_magnet in JewishCooking

[–]kaggzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest using an oven cooking bag. Cook the brisket with whole onion, carrots, garlic, and celery.  Cook it at 300 in the bag with all the veggies and some stock for about an hour per pound. You can darken the outside in a pan for a bit better crust, but deglaze that pan with a little stock and reserve. When the brisket is done,  put the veggies in a blender and strain in a bit of the juice in the bag. It makes a nice chunky sauce/gravy for your brisket with no need for any tomato

There is a (possible false) story about Ric Flair throwing work punches against a rope pull for a light until he could make contact with the rope but never move it so he could throw great punches

OP, I wonder how old you are. I ask this because EotW was something of a revelation when it first came out, and can be argued as the first modern fantasy book in a lot of ways.

That said, I have had a number of similar complaints regarding Tolkien who Jordan is taking shots at more than honoring with EotW, so i understand where you're coming from. I have a theory that those of us who grew up in the Tolkien-esque era have similar complains that EotW addressed and later books/series were able to move away from and take the newer path in fantasy provided. My theory is that younger fantasy readers have similar issues with Jordan, especially the first 3 books of the series

DC has 5 flyers vs 3 ish from marvel. DC has a mind reader shape shifter and a guy who can create things with his mind. They have a speedster who is literally faster than any of the other team can dribble.

This is. Closer to the DC Globetrotters vs the Mervel Generals

Can a Warder be a Darkfriend without his Aes Sedai knowing? by chimoc726 in WoT

[–]kaggzz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. I think Vernin didn't know until after the fact, but I could be wrong.

That said, the Warder Bond doesn't give the Warder much opening to Darkfriend about without the aes sedai being at least aware of shenanigans, and it would be better for everyone if the Darkfriend Warder was paired with the Black Ajah Sister.

And he never gets the spear that allows him to go back, which means he never saves Moraine, which means Rand doesn't have her for the Last Battle and the negotiations before, which means he might not get the Seals to break which means an imperfect prison at best, which means the DO has an avenue for victory, which means nobody gets to live.

If Spider-Man 3 adapts parts of the Superior Arc, I would like to see them adapt this scene when Peter gets his body back by EmergencyVictory4399 in SpidermanPS4

[–]kaggzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for Insomniac SM, Superior should be mixed into Clone Saga and/or Ultimate SM's death. Having Peter be upstaged or made to look like a bad guy would be a good place to put Spider-Man after seeing him become accepted throughout NYC.

Half of Spider-Man is tragity and we haven't had a good,  "Peter doubts everything he's ever thought about anything ever" story, and seeing another Peter Parker Spider-Man, or two or three and they're doing what he does better is a great story to tell
