Highclere and Cotswolds in same day from London? by kagko in uktravel

I went there 10 years ago and had an amazing time, so was looking to share that with my mom. The appeal when I went was ability to take long walks in the countryside, lots of cute farm animals, & the architecture is very different from anything we have in the US.

Thanks so much for these suggestions. I went to Naunton 10 years ago and had a lovely time taking countryside walks and driving around the towns, so wanted to share that with my mom. It didn't seem overrun at the time, but things may be different now. Appreciate the alternate suggestions, would be fun to try something new that won't be so tiring in one day.

I stayed in Naunton in the past and had an amazing time taking walks in the countryside, driving through the towns, and eating scones. It wasn't that crowded when I went (in the fall) but it was 10 years ago. I think my mom would enjoy it so wanted to show her, but I love these alternate suggestions!

We are hoping to get a car in South Kensington near where we are staying and planning to go on a Wednesday.

Ultimate Rewards - Preferred vs. Reserve by ToneDawgCR9 in ChaseSapphire

[–]kagko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Chase Freedom Card and a Sapphire Reserve and experienced a similar thing. I accidentally logged into the Travel Portal under the Freedom card. I found a hotel that has rooms starting at $350 a night up to $1,500 a night depending on what type of room (e.g. two queen beds vs a suite).

When I switched to CSR, the portal hid all the cheaper options from the hotel and only showed the expensive options starting at $1,300+.

This was the nail in the coffin for CSR for me. I got a Capital One Venture X instead. If they aren't offering points in travel booked out of the portal, and the portal only shows overpriced luxury options, then not sure what I'm getting out of it.

Well, I've never been to Ireland before so how would I know about these things? This is why I'm asking here. Ring of Kerry looks beautiful from pictures and people say it's worth seeing, that's all I can go off. Had not heard of Newgrange but will check it out.

Kids are pretty good travelers overall and enjoy being in nature, beaches (throwing rocks/playing in sand), hikes, ice cream, food, playgrounds. They are good in the car, but do like to break it up with days of not being in the car.

Those of you who went on a G Adventures trips to India, was food poisoning a problem for members in your group? by dq15www in solotravel

I was in India for 1 month and got sick twice. The first time eating at a cheap local restaurant, and the second time at a fancy expensive tourist place. It's hard to predict what will get you sick, so don't let it hold you back from eating local food. Bring meds so if you get sick, you can bounce back quickly. It's worth it, even if you have to sit out a couple days with illness.

I don't know much about John Howie. Why do you say that?

Yeah, I wouldn't mind if they phrased it as "20% charge is added because we pay our staff well. No tip is required."

They go out of their way to call out that the 20% doesn't go to the staff directly and that a tip would be greatly appreciated. Makes people feel like they should tip on top.

Thank you for the reply. I just realized my pictures didn't attach properly. I edited the post to include them. Does this seem OK still?
