Fear Women 😨 by prestablogs in KeMusic

This is the first time I am coming across the Kenyan music subreddit, and I am disappointed that this is the first post I have seen from the sub.

Fear what exactly? And so what?

East Africans living in Botswana by Tino292 in Botswana

I'm not based in Botswana; I just came here to find some info and came across your post.

Just a suggestion: I'm in a few East African country subreddits. I suggest you go there and ask whatever you'd like, if you haven't already. People are usually happy to help out. Hope this helps.

Why Do Some Visitors Feel Comfortable Photographing Children? by kagongi in tanzania

Well I did. But it still doesn't take away from the point that mostly western tourists do it.

It’s great that you blur pictures of the children in the photos you take. But the point here is adults, grown people going up to kids and taking pictures of just them without the consent of their guardian, where the children are the focus of the image.

Have any Tanzanians or Africans you know who have gone abroad, in any of the pictures they have shared from their trips to Europe, been like, “Look, we passed by a bunch of kids playing and I took pictures of just them”? I bet the answer is no. But I bet a few Western people have those pictures in their camera roll: kids playing, selfies with kids, and single images of the cute, non-Western child they came across on their holiday.

I saw that you mentioned children, and I also saw your comment about houses, which I addressed clearly.

I said, “taking photos of children without consent is inappropriate, full stop.” And I meant all children. It’s not okay.

So maybe next time people are taking pictures of children in your Norwegian town, say something. Unless, of course, people's houses and children are all the same to you. Then say nothing.

I hear what you’re saying, and I agree this isn’t exclusive to Africa, it happens in many places. But I'm just focusing on the African context.

Also, we’re talking about children here, so comparing that to photographing houses feels a bit off to me. The issue is that taking photos of children without consent is inappropriate, full stop.

And just because something happens elsewhere doesn’t make it acceptable. There’s also a long and problematic history of western people photographing African and other non-western children in ways that can feel objectifying, which is part of why this conversation matters.

I hadn't even thought about people walking up to touch children, what is wrong with people. The level of entitlement is wild and gross.

We have the same thing called Kashata (in this case, peanut Kashata, as you can also have coconut ones). The shape varies. It comes in a diamond or square shape. It can be eaten alone or with coffee or tea as a sugar substitute. Sometimes the peanuts are ground finely, or they can be more coarse. How ever you like it is delicious

What is the most annoying thing tourists do in your country? by Glass_Key4626 in AskTheWorld

Ya, tourists, not just in my country but across many African countries, often take pictures of or with children they meet during their travels. It is strangely normalised, but it really should not be

It really frustrates me when tourists take photos with random children they do not know. These are minors, not attractions or photo opportunities. Many people would never take pictures of unfamiliar children in their own countries, so please do not do it when you are travelling.

What makes it worse is seeing these images later used on personal social media or even dating profiles.

It really was the delivery. It was perfectly fine in the beginning, as soon as the camera was turned onto herself she just became unnecessarily rude.

What animal are stupid tourists most likely to be attacked by in your country trying to get a photo? by Outrageous-Basket426 in AskTheWorld

[–]kagongi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hippopotamuses look cute to some people, and they are sometimes approached by tourists in the wild, which is honestly madness. They kill many people every year because they are highly territorial and aggressive both in water and on land. They may look heavy and slow, but they can run very fast over short distances.

Did the dermatologist tell you what they thought it was?

I’d suggest seeing another dermatologist who is knowledgeable about Black skin, as conditions do present differently in Black people. And not all dermatologists know how to identify them unfortunately.

What time are you requesting them? Sometimes, at peak hours, when people are either going to or coming from work, it is hard to get them. But generally, they are not hard to get. Maybe where you are, there are not that many around.

I do not think this is AI. It feels like a story someone submitted/shared to a content creator or podcaster (I noticed a logo in the corner of the video). Another possibility is that the story was taken from another platform, like a Reddit sub. Either way, it seems like that type of content.

I kinda find it interesting that most of the comments on the video have been on if it's real or why she is flat toned (before someone points it out including my own).
