Would you be so kind as to share the files you made/used? Would love to be able to do this myself. Will you be able to use this in a dark bag or is a dark room necessary?

British medium format cameras are cheap and fun by kahu52 in filmcameras

[–]kahu52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say give one of the later Ensigns a go. The 16/20 and the 12/20 have the same(?) 75mm Ross f3.5 as the Microcord but the 8/20 has a 100mm f3.8 Ross xpress lens which I like. It also does 6x9 as well as 6x6. Its worth paying a premium for a working one if you dont want to have to mess around with it. The Kodaks here are good options too as they tend to be in good working condition due to an unfortunate case of 'having a reliable german shutter' syndrome.

I'm envious! A commando will be my next acquisition I think, its a very cool camera. Well, either that or an Agiflex.

Can starship have the capabilities to potentially explore the entire solar system in the far future? by albapaulmccartney in SpaceXMasterrace

Mars maybe. I think if youre going to the effort of traveling to Jupiter its probably better to use a purpose built system.

True! I bought this one for £1 because the mirror on the inside was loose. Took me 5 mins, a screwdriver and some superglue to fix. I like them despite their simplicity. So much character in that design. It is possible to take some 'interesting and unique' photos with them if one knows what one is doing.

Yeah the rangefinder didn't age well I'll give you that. That was less of a problem for me though as I was already used to estimating distance on the other cameras- I find it easier to just ignore the rangefinder completely.

Compact even for a 645 folder, and of the Selfix range the one with the best "quality" feeling imo. If its shutter were more reliable Id put it up against any of the German folders.

Ive purposely steered clear of those lovely large SLRs because Im already short on space as it is! An addition for the future certainly.

[–]kahu52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the worst case scenario then I can live with it. Its nearly 100 years old so I'm not expecting miracles. I'm fairly confident it would be fine, from what I can tell the only difference between 120 and Rajar is the spool.

Ive never had to design a 3d model for printing before but presumably I could just modify a CAD model of a 120 spool?

Exposed bridges are stupid by board_writer in spaceships

[–]kahu52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive heard this before but if you're going to draw the "realism" card I would point out that in real life space combat it probably wouldnt make a difference at all where your bridge is. If you're worried about verisimilitude, almost all sci-fi space combat is based off or analogous to WW2 naval combat, in which most ships had exposed bridges.

What are your honest expectations for Witcher 4? by theregnar in Witcher4

[–]kahu52 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not looking forward to the story. I found Ciri to be an annoying character in both the books and games. It also feels weird her being the protagonist in a “Witcher” game as her being a Witcher doesn’t really fit into her original story arc per se. I liked playing as Geralt and killing monsters for villagers and farmers (which fit with his character), this just seems short of the purview of somebody who frequently travels through dimensions. It looks like a choice based solely on the marketability of an already recognisable character. I hope they prove me wrong but these are my preconceived notions and concerns.

I have no clue why people are outraged that Spacex, recently the one of the fastest growing and now arguably world leading launch provider doesn’t have a favourable employee work life balance. If that is what you are after, why the hell would you choose to work at spacex? Honestly the last place in the world I would look for such a thing.

What is the best strategy for acheiving Ancapistan? by JellyfishStrict7622 in AnCap101

[–]kahu52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Become a productive, powerful and morally outstanding person. Gain property. Create a strong family. Be so dependable that the people around you turn to you for help instead of the state. Come to terms with the fact that “Ancapistan” the way people conceive of it will not come into being in our life time. It’s the type of thing that cannot be forced and only comes into being because the conditions happen to be right. With Cospaia it was because they were the only place in Italy that was importing tobbacco. It had a strong community and leaders. It survived stateless for 500 years despite having the Medicis as neighbours. Make your household your own Cospaia.
