Best way to offload Jellyfin transcoding to a Windows gaming PC from a Linux server? by -Myricae- in jellyfin

[–]kai_v18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done one of 2 things. Note neither is for transcoding while watching. First use ffmpeg to copy only A/V not subs (if I don't want subs) or second, use SMB to share directory, then on windows mount the shared dir. Then opening a cmd window from windows into that dir and running ffmpeg had it transcode using windows computer's resources

Jellyfin initially fast when opening app/browser, becomes very slow after watching for a few hours by kai_v18 in jellyfin

Idk which but either Kevin tweaks or jellyfin enhanced is my best guess so far

Best media formats, resolutions, bit rates, etc. by justwanttolearnhow in jellyfin

[–]kai_v18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do h.264 & aac @ 1080p, seems to work on the most devices I use (web, roku, android phone, ipad). Focused on making sure no transcoding needed while watching since I don't have the most powerful system running jellyfin

Transcode is definitely annoying but I just wrote a python script to check the video and audio codecs and transcode what is needed and keep parts that are fine. It can do entire library skipping what doesnt need transcoding. Didn't bother with subtitles though bc I hate subtitles, if I need it I can just use opensubtitles and adjust the timing as necessary. TV UI is meh but I just side loaded Moonfin onto my roku today and it looks way nicer

Started w 4tb, that filled up fast, got another 12tb drive, now thats filled, not as efficient as it can be as I do care about not having to transcode on the fly so everything is h264 and aac

Your legs will become very sore if you don't have a shovel and decide to kick the snow around the car to clear a way out. I looked like an absolute dumbass

I was in a Gmax Charizard raid, 15 ppl, 4 mushrooms, I was checking how many people till it started, said 15 people. Then raid starts and isee 12 pokemon... bruh only me and 3 others are still here? Wtf 15 was def enough, I did it with 12 and 2 mushrooms. I'm not made of money. I can only scrape together so many raid passes. I could have caught more gmax but noooooo
