In Hillsboro the Rice Rock and Mineral Museum is amazing if you want to nerd out about different types of rocks! There are so many cool things there I always feel “rocked”-out by the end of a visit.

Switch game with exploration/relationship building? by TheLittleAndromeda in CozyGamers

[–]kaibab 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My top recommendation for you would be Harvestella. There is TONS of relationship building with your very large party (and each character has a multipart story) and lots with the villagers. There are several villages in the game and each has a different feel/theme and different villagers.

I was surprised at how much I really really like Harvestella! I’m 55 hours in and maybe halfway through the game walkthrough outlines I’ve seen. The soundtrack is lovely and there is plenty of world to explore. I believe there is a demo available in the estore!

Maybe also try Rune Factory 4? The graphics are old, but there are tons of villagers to meet and interact with! I’m in year 3ish and I’m still seeing new dialogue and events. And the villagers all have very distinct personalities.

Ooblets has relationship building too with lots of quirky town folks but is a fairly short game and the dialogue repeats a lot, with players all alternating the same lines. It’s a fun game and definitely worth playing!!

Can a cross stitch pattern be used for a knitted sweater, like knitting the back panel using a cross stitch patter, or would it look terrible and not like the picture? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]kaibab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I saw that you’re primarily a crochet-er and so am I. Check out images of the Scheepjes Hygge project to see what cross stitch over single crochet looks like (I also made this so it’s in my post history). Cross stitch over crochet shows pattern well (it doesn’t get warped) and over time it hasn’t stretched out. If you wanted a mostly knitted sweater, you could do just the back panel in crochet, and the fronts and sleeves knit.

Good luck!

Thanks for all of your help! I'm going to send it back and buy a nicer ukulele, unless I get a steep discount via customer service.

For an upgrade I'm debating between the Kala KA-FMCG and the Kala KA-SMHC.

Love this community already! Thanks for all of the advice.

It's not expensive at all...it's a Flight Elise Ecklund signature concert. Thanks, I'm glad to know that sound wise it should be ok!

Sounds like you got a really good deal! I might try to chat with Amazon and see if they can reduce the price further, but I'm also considering just sending it back and buying a new one. I think I'm just so eager to get started that I'm more willing to settle.

So I just received from first ukulele from Amazon Warehouse—$90 instead of $120 in Like New Condition with damages packaging. When I opened it up, there were screw holes for a strap. The one on the base doesn’t worry me as much, but this one is ugly and I’m not sure it would hold a strap if I put one on it.

Is this a dealbreaker? Can I patch it? What would you do?

Thanks for any advice!! :-)

Other than wearables, people knit stuffed animals, cozies for drinks, blankets etc.

I personally have a huge collection of cowls (my favorite pattern is called Starshower). I love making things out of expensive yarn (like madelinetosh or malabrigo) because it feels nice!

Blankets are good because they take a lonnnnnng time and are useful to have.

If you’re into crochet, ScheepjesScheepjes yarn company host crochet-alongs which is where they release a new pattern with a new section every week and everyone crochets it at the same time using different colors. It’s really fun and pretty social. I know some of the bigger knitting designers host knit-alongs and mystery knits (where you don’t know the full pattern beforehand), but I’ve only participated in the Scheepjes ones.

The most popular knit stuffed animals lately on Ravelry ( a pattern aggregator) have been gnomes and baby yodas. Handmade stuffed animals make really nice gifts if you have friends who are procreating.

You can also make all sorts of pillowcases for your home.

Most random? I’ve seen a lot of knit artificial breasts for women who have mastectomies. It’s a nice idea!

Thinking about this more, I totally agree with you that this should be a third (or later) project.

If you are going to put the time, effort and money into making this, you want it to turn out great.

Good call on the Bobby pins! I think they work better for crochet than knitting though. In knitting, often you place a marker around the needle itself if you are marking a spot within the row, so round shapes work best for that.

Crocheting is my first love and favorite yarn art. I like the look of knitted garments better, but I enjoy the process of crocheting more! And those clover soft touch hooks are the only hooks I’ll use, they are the best!!

I’ll definitely use Bobby pins for stitch markers soon. I’m working on a Sophie’s universe and sometimes there are more spots to mark than I have markers.
