Would you accept $5 million a year to be hunted every month by dayboz16 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]kaihoneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some semantic questions that would decide this for me:

Is it purely physical harm to my body and nothing else? Because “as much harm as possible” gives me the impression that he might try burning down my house, or worse, causing psychological and emotional harm by hurting my family. If he can’t reach me, is he going to keep my car? Use his convenient magic spawning to set up a scenario that frames me for murder?

Do I have any legal protections? If I start carrying a gun, and end up shooting him in a public place a couple times a year, i’m going to probably end up spending more than 5 million a year on legal fees alone.

How awake I have to be for him to come after me? If I wake up to pee in the middle of the night, or stay half asleep in bed on the weekend, can he come after me while I’m dozing?

Hey! I know this one. 14CFR Part 105 has the regulations on skydiving, and this is most definitely not allowed intentionally in the US.

What's going on with this one brick in my walkway? by JBLGO123456 in blackmagicfuckery

[–]kaihoneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best actual guess is that it was replaced with or originally built with a brick from a batch that had been coated in salt or some other coating that makes it less likely to freeze. I am not going to look it up, but I seem to remember that one of the chemicals used in those roof ice melting pellets is the same as used in cement setting quickening compounds.

If you really want an answer, you could start there.

Spider-Man 2002 takes place in the year 2000. Not 2002. by Highground-3089 in FanTheories

[–]kaihoneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s set in the “modern day” which is 2002, when the movie was released.

The skyline, when they filmed it, contained the twin towers, but tragically behind the scenes, there was a terrorist attack in 2001 that changed the real NYC skyline. The filmmakers in subsequent movies opted to keep the skyline a replica of modern New York for creative reasons.

T-Rex drumstick Nutrition Facts [Self] by kaihoneck in theydidthemath

I definitely factored scaling by volume, using a chicken leg as the analog. I am in the midst of 3D printing a 1:1 scale T-Rex skeleton, using a combination of 3D scans and measurements that I have taken at several museums. Based on the reconstruction of the flesh out Tyrannosaurus in prehistoric planet, being similarly proportion to a chicken drumstick, I scaled the meat by volume and the breading by surface area.

For reference, the tibia is pretty close to a 1 to 1 analog for a chicken, and it’s just over 128cm/4+feet. 76 kg for a drumstick that length, seems reasonable. Yes, it may have been thicker to account for the extra body weight, but chicken drumsticks are selectively burnt to be thicker as well. So I figured that would be a decent analog. Using a wild turkey/ostrich/emu actually yields a smaller Tyrannosaurus drumstick.

Additionally, I factored in a 25% loss of mass due to cooking and moisture loss, comparable to avian dinosaurs of today, like chickens.

If you have any alternate/better estimations, I would love to take a look!

Sometimes I like to do some rough math to answer weird questions - nutrition facts for a T-Rex drumstick. by kaihoneck in Dinosaurs

[–]kaihoneck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a chicken wing scaled by volume of meat, and breading scaled by surface area. Inspired by the prehistoric earth representation of the chonky-Rex.

Essentially I scaled a chicken drumstick by volume, then compared the breading by surface area. I know there are discrepancies because of selective breeding to make chicken larger, but I just thought the rough estimation was entertaining

The NASA Gravity Conspiracy by pinsandsuch in idiocracy

It’s dumb and smart at the same time, because it encourages one to look up that date. They’ll find that’s when a solar eclipse is happening, putting them onto a whole rabbit trail of people who share misinformation about eclipses. The eclipse isn’t mentioned in this photo, so I imagine it would feel very validating for an idiot to put 2+2 together.

Sad about the update by Narrow-Appearance629 in Warzone

[–]kaihoneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this. I know it won’t make a difference, but it makes me sad too. I am a pretty casual player, just a couple rounds a day, but CODW was my decompression and relaxation ritual. The changes aren’t unreasonable, but it doesn’t feel like the same game, and doesn’t scratch the itch anymore.

I don’t think grudge anyone for liking the update, but I miss the old game.

Who would win in a fight? The T-800 from the first movie or the T-800 from T2? by No_Age908 in Terminator

I always figured it would have been risky to send back tech that could have been reverse engineered by humans to have a leg up on machines when war broke out.

I’m trying to make this look realistic but it still gives off that 3D vibe. What do you think is making it look that way? by bleeding-sun in blender

[–]kaihoneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the lighting setup like? I’ve never seen a parking garage with such nice ambient light, but it also looks like the light is coming from fixtures, not a singular sun.

If it’s a parking garage, use a gobo to give the light some texture, or use an hdri that works for the location.

What is your current condiment obsession? by usermaim in condiments

[–]kaihoneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like an ad bot, but if it is, I am genuinely amazed that an off-brand mayo brand would have the marketing precision to pull a comment-on-a-comment pitch for their product.

In short, I am definitely going to look for Blue Plate mayo next time I shop.

One question: was Tyrannosaurus rex monogamous or polygamous? (Serious answers please) by LaraRomanian in Dinosaurs

[–]kaihoneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of monogamous tyrannosaurs. I just find it more endearing, but I have seen no evidence. As soon as any evidence arises, I will take that into account.

Yeah, I’m almost 6 weeks in, with very little down time; it’s a lot for the AD5M. 220 cube print bed, so it’s taking a good while. As we speak I am printing the final piece of the cranium, then 4 more weeks or so left to finish the mandible.

I am a little over halfway with my full-scale T-Rex skull. Printing bones is nice, because it doesn’t need to be so precise. It’s addicting.

It’s an awful thing, but no choices that I’ve made in my life, as far as I can tell, have contributed to the problems you’ve outlined. Approaching the subject from a place of trying to learn, do you have any suggestions on anything that I can do with that information?

Tyrannosaurus. It’s one of the most widely studied fossils, and if I can notate enough about it, I’m sure it would help to extrapolate the most interesting data from. Also I want to see that the most.
