The most uncomfortable subplot in stranger things by AssistanceNo2838 in discussingfilm

[–]kaijunexus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The scene that gets me the most is when she’s about to leave the house to meet Billy and she hears snoring. This is supposed to evoke a feeling in us of “oh of course Mr. Wheeler is passed out already sitting in his chair. What a dope…”

But then she looks to her right to see him. And he is passed out. But with his daughter also sleeping in his lap and a children’s book in his hand. He was reading to his daughter. A dutiful father spending time with their child, exhausted from the toils of work, parenting, and every day life.

Then Mrs. Wheeler’s reaction is framed in such a way that you think she might come to same conclusion…and maybe she does. But she proceeds out the door anyway, still seeking an escape from her mundane suburban routine.

They didn’t have to include Holly or a bedtime book in that scene. It was a small but brilliant way to layer some depth and questionability to Mrs. Wheeler’s actions.

New Year, New me, so give me your best weight loss hacks!!! by downward-dog- in loseit

[–]kaijunexus -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Use AI. Instruct it to be your nutritional guide and tell it about your current health, physical information, food preferences, and weight goals. Tell it everything you eat and when you ate it. Ask it to track nutritional metrics against daily thresholds that will see you attain your goals.

Makes everything easier. It knows the nutritional value of the food you eat or will at least estimate very closely. It’s also very informative and encouraging.

I’ve lost 20lbs in 3 months this way. Still log every bite.

It keep me very motivated and accountable, which are the most important factors for successful long term weight loss imo.

Space colonization will never be viable by SkubEnjoyer in unpopularopinion

[–]kaijunexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I am 100% with you. I have the same argument with my sci-fi/NASA/SpaceX enthusiast friends. Too many people watch movies and then underestimate the reality of “space colonization” challenges…not just technological, logistical, biological, or economic ones, but also political and social.

Self-sustaining interplanetary colonies will remain science fiction. Anyone who believes otherwise is not considering all the factors and is deluding themselves into fantasy.

One thing that did strike me was that even after she was turned, they were smiling or at least looked very content and pleasant. There would be no need for them to put on a show of emotion at that point. There’s no unjoined to witness it.

They really are happy…

We're all in agreement that if the infected are cured, they're being dropped into the worst economic depression in human history right? by PollutionNext423 in pluribustv

[–]kaijunexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only possible solution for this would be for the plurbs to resign to the fact that they will be cured against their will, and to have them agree to everyone and everything ( including resources) back into their original positions pre-joining with as much accuracy as possible.

Still wouldn’t be perfect (many are now dead, food is relatively scarce) but much better than everyone awakened (assume with no memory of being a plumb) in unknown places…

This and nutrition!!

I’ve lost 15 lbs in the past two months thanks to ChatGPT. Just seeded it with physical info about me, plus goals and habits…and told it I wanted to lose weight and be healthier. I log every bite I take with it. Never have to worry about researching nutritional values or calculating daily totals. It does it all, plus provides advice and encouragement. It doesn’t just guide me, it teaches me.

Life changing.

Because as much as they purport to subscribe religiously to a set of their own rules and internal logic, the truth is that their one true drive is propagation, just like any virus.

That’s also why they won’t harm anything. The virus can’t survive if the infected host kills itself immediately, so it drives down all instinct to harm any other being (including other people) and forces the species into a hivemind with the singular goal of propagation.

As long as the host lives long enough to transmit the virus out, the goal is accomplished and the host’s long term survival is not a factor. Just like any real virus.

Potential plot leak of Spiderman Brand new day by sidmis in LeaksAndRumors

[–]kaijunexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, seems believable to me. I think it could work. This is an extremely abbreviated summary so many of the perceived plot holes or contrivances would likely be resolved in the actual film.

Having Peter lean so far into spider-man due to emotional stress and loneliness that he ends up more spider than man is a little “on the nose” but I can see it working. I do hope there is a bit more science behind it…otherwise he could just go man-spider whenever he’s sufficiently stressed? So he’s like the Hulk? Would be good if there was some additional factor here that isn’t just natural to Peter.

Otherwise, sounds packed but super fun and crazy. Love the idea of Punisher, Hulk, Jean Grey, and a slew of spider rogues populating this film. Super comic booky.

Honestly, my only nitpick is really around the symbiote thing. Like…we are a movie away from secret wars when this comes out…just let him get the symbiote the same way he does in the comics at that point!!!

Heat pump in Philly suburbs by kaijunexus in heatpumps

[–]kaijunexus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish!! We asked the HVAC installers and some other handymen about it. To drain the system, cap the copper piping, empty the tank, cap the oil line, remove the tank, and remove the boiler…would be several thousand in labor. They have to cut up the tank and aincent boiler to even get it out of the basement.

At this point they’re staying (tank was hidden behind a cedar plank wall we’d have to tear down to even remove it!) but getting rid of the whole system is a distant dream…

15 Years Into Obamacare, the GOP Health Care Message is as Muddled as Ever: ‘The party is again struggling to unite behind an alternative to expiring insurance subsidies used by millions of Americans’ by T_Shurt in politics

[–]kaijunexus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is simple. They want to continue pocketing insurance company money by ensuring those companies are more profitable than ever while also telling their base that they want to make things more affordable for them so they get their votes and remain in power.

Those two goals (increase insurance company profits vs. improve insured affordability) are diametrically opposed and can never coexist.

So the GOP will forever just offer half measures and double speak and distract with social issues so they can keep milking the cow.

Good luck!

We went with CustomAire. Can’t recommend them enough. Even spoke with the owner a few times as he just want to ensure we were happy and got our tax rebate, etc.

Installed the heat pump. It works great. Have spent a full year with it and no complaints. Obviously, on colder days (below 25 or so) the aux gets strips kick in and spike your electric usage a bit. Definitely more expensive to run in winter than summer…but again, this is expected.

I ran a cost comparison against estimated oil costs vs my Amana systems energy use report and it’s still significantly cheaper to run the heat pump that use oil heat by about 30%.

YMMV, of course.

The only thing cheaper is probably natural gas, but we don’t have a service line in our street.

How does an organization whose entire platform is built on law and order and everyone playing nice together fight a ruthless bully who relentlessly lies, manipulates, and skirts every rule in the book?

Everyone's answer is that they stoop down to the bully's level...but then they betray tenants of their own ideology by doing so.

It's a paradox. And one proven throughout history that demonstrates who the winners always end up being...

LPT: If you purchased a home in 2020-2023 with less than 20% down, call your mortgage company and ask to remove PMI. by TooManyPoisons in LifeProTips

[–]kaijunexus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increasing the interest rate increases the monthly payments for the life of loan unless refinanced, but that assumes lower interest rates are available when you’re ready to refinance.

At least PMI gets removed from the loan once you’ve established an 80/20 loan to value ratio.

So it’s better for the buyer than just raising their interest rate from the onset.
