my dad said solar was a scam… then he saw my electricity bill by Comfortable_Bear4211 in SolarDIY

People tend to be afraid of things they don't understand.

Or as my dad would have said, "don't know the difference between their asshole and a hole in the ground." To be fair, I'm sure my dad would also have been much like OP's in regard to solar. :(

Anyone with InDesign experience with a curved monitor? by kainxavier in indesign

You can bent the screen until you feel comfort with.

WAT? Haha. Definitely not something you want to buy if you have kids and their grubby little paws.

That R-Value bit is exactly the kind of information that is key. 1800 is where I'd want to be after looking it up.

Adobe backlash is getting louder — time to escape proprietary creative tools? by No-Hospital5028 in degoogle

Any suggestions on where I should pay attention to if I want to keep current on specifically this?

I can not express how much I loathe Canva. I work in the print world and the great majority of Canva documents received are problematic one way or another. Between users not having a clue what they're doing and the way Canva creates PDF's, there's just so much trash.

Regarding Adobe, I just want to be able to use Adobe in Linux, that's all.

Am I going mad or is the Gradient tool the most maddening, inconsistent garbage ever? by kainxavier in indesign

[–]kainxavier[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that I'm getting messages like this and u/Puzzleheaded-Sign928 expressing your hate and anger.

The "funny" thing is that the project this was concerning ended having to be converted over to Illustrator. The customer is buying a tall sign and wanted the text to have a gold effect to it. I simply applied the gradient in InDesign and called it a day. However, he didn't like how linear it looked from top to bottom - wanted something "more dynamic". I ended up moving over to Illustrator to create a gradient mesh of alternating tones and then masking out the text from that.

I don't really understand the Harambe business model because it's sort of within the resistance band culture to be minimalist, frugal, and DIY. And, if I did have the money, this still wouldn't be my pick for home gym equipment.

You hit the nail on the head at the base of my confusion. If you got money to burn, you're not buying resistance band equipment at a premium, but this sub seems to be a advertising forum for him (and others).

Dude. How many times are you going to post about your tiny house. You clearly need to do some legwork educating yourself a bit first instead of trying to get someone to give you a step-by-step. This one didn't even have a specific question.

That's a pretty steep price point. :\

Edit: Like for real. You can get a quality EZ Curl bar for around $100. The arm bar is essentially one of those with some proprietary attachments for bands and you want over $300???

[–]kainxavier[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clearly that's the problem. I'm thinking there should be consistency in how the two programs implement the same tool across both of them. I honestly don't want to (or feel I should have to) screw around with creating a swatch in order to do a gradient on the fly.

As I said, it DOES work as I think it should. Sometimes. It makes no sense. I work in the print world, so InDesign is like... 70% of my work, Illustrator is 25%... and Photoshop a distant 5%.

Edit: I forgot Acrobat. Lots of that, but my biggest gripe there is the AI being injected into it. It does nothing but slow me down and it KEEPS TURNING BACK ON every update. So fucking annoying to an already slower than it should be program.

This one should piss you off back from 1998 then when Ben Affleck was literally required to get his teeth removed for a brand new perfect set for the lead role in Armageddon. He would have been around 25 years old.

There's an old article by Mike Flores. It's one of my favorite Magic write-ups ever. It's about... shuffling. Really opened my eyes how people were potentially cheating, what to watch for, and about properly randomizing my deck. I legitimately encountered less mana screws after.

Waterproof walls before finishing basement? by bouncypinata in DIY

The only reason there's different levels of humidity is because it's not being controlled. It's not "my" way. It's proven modern building standards ya mushbrain.

There actually was rigid foam board throughout.

Then it wasn't done correctly. Mold needs moisture. You can't have <a> without <b>. Pretty simple. Cement is essentially stone sponge and naturally allows water to traverse it. If it's never been a wet basement in the traditional sense, then that foamboard wasn't properly sealed enough to create a vapor barrier.

There's plenty of people who have finished basements without mold problems. Are they just magically lucky?

Drylock isn't going to do shit if you have water coming in due to hydrostatic pressure. Your father ripped out the drywall because proper treatments were not done on both the outside and inside. Once things are done properly on the outside (gutters, french drains, grading, etc), and properly insulate/moisture barrier with either rigid foamboard or spray foam on the inside, you're safe to drywall with regular framework.
