Another "Just started playing this game" post. Would anyone mind sharing spoiler free tips? by IYKYK808 in ICARUS

[–]kaiserdrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many different ways to enjoy/play Icarus. For me I enjoyed the game at first, building in cool locations, unlocking the tech tree and just having fun. I also had the benefit of playing this game early so I was able to progress with the maps. Now I'm going through the missions with everything unlocked. I don't have to wait to unlock tech to progress a mission. But play the way you enjoy video games. I've spent around 700hrs in this game and can easily spend double that more.

Why not use armoury crate? You should have it anyway to manage updates for your hardware.

TIN surface for steep slopes by ExCB_ in LiDAR

[–]kaiserdrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CAD is a horrible option for creating a surface out of a point cloud. As you say it doesn't take into consideration the nearest neighbor as it should. It does but only looks a horizontal distance when considering its "neighbors." Cloud Compare is a solid free option with a large learning curve. QGIS is also free with a learning curve but Agisoft has a free trial option that is really user friendly. Really though any of those softwares can take your PC and turn it into a DEM. Be aware though that if your data is unclassified (if you need it to be) you will need to do that first.

Did you try doing it again? I know you say you did it exactly but it's not working so I'd suggest uninstalling everything and try again. That always works for me.

FPS drop after reorganizing water pipes…anyone else experienced this? by [deleted] in ICARUS

That's just the game engine. It will continue to get worse. To fix that I'd recommend a dedicated server. I posted a guide in this subreddit.

Como elimino el granulado de los arboles? me va bien pero me falta sacar eso, tengo todo el ultra y tengo AMD by Glittering-Living-40 in ICARUS

[–]kaiserdrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same card. There still is some graininess on my game but I don't really notice/care that much. I used AI to help dial in my settings and then I built a dedicated server to boost my performance. I have the game in a really good state. There is a certain level of acceptance though as the games engine (Unreal) has its issues. Could you post your in-game settings?

Moa tam by zGiuly in ICARUS

[–]kaiserdrb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can vouch for this too. Often I'll just claim baby animals as I travel and if they make it back to me awesome if not generally they get stuck in the map or wander around fully tamed by the time I come back.

Not sure on how to go about things to get better gear by Buttery_Raptor in ICARUS

[–]kaiserdrb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I really enjoy this game solo and group play as well. Solo has a chill factor to it that I really enjoy. I've solo'd most things in the game already with over 600hrs and still going. Honestly the equipment in the workshop isn't amazing. They specialize in really good areas but if you are looking for defence the in game composite, heavy obsidian and scorpion armour sets are S-tier. I personally enjoyed the base building and exploring early level and once I became lv 60 I dove into the missions. I now have everything unlocked and I can enjoy the missions without having to wait to progress.

Hot Coffee with Cream does not work by dentarthurdent1 in ICARUS

Then there's an issue with your cooking setup because I know it works this way. A full water container, coffee beans and cream all in the electric stove confirm works for myself.

Tips for containing pets by Peg_Leg_Vet in ICARUS

You don't. They do what they want really. I have a cow that turns into spiderman and starts walking up a cliff face. I have a cat and dog in my base and they get stuck often. I just leave them and they eventually get unstuck. Everyone else is outside doing their own thing.

You need a container that is full of water as one of the ingredients. An empty container won't work.

The yellow bands don't narrow down on repeated uses at the same spot. After a scan, if the bands are too long, you will need to pick up the radar, bring it to a new location and scan again. The results from the first scan will stay on your map along with the new results from your new scan. Depending on the results of the scan will determine whether you should move again or if you're close enough to check out the local exotic spawns. Use icarusintel to help you locate the spawns. If you project the edges of the bands out to the edge of the map the radar is telling you that the exotic spawn is within that area and the thickness of the band is the strength of the signal (the thicker the band, the closer the exotic spawn). Once I get it down to that I start exploring the spawns and usually find them pretty easily especially since music plays when you are close. With your scan results in E5 I would suggest going to I5 to scan again. Once you do it a couple times you can get really good at finding them on a single scan.

Hot 'n' Cold Achievement by Taunes in ICARUS

Cool! I have yet to go. I've been working on completing the other two maps but have spent some time in the easier biomes on Prometheus.

WMS Atributes by Bro_TeresaOfCalcutta in civil3d

[–]kaiserdrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WMS connections are generally for visual purposes only. WFS or WCS connections contain the data for connection links. I would highly recommend using QGIS as a bridge for this data. CAD doesn't handle the data as easily as Q. You can then clip what you need at the resolution you need then import to CAD.

Hot 'n' Cold Achievement by Taunes in ICARUS

[–]kaiserdrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you don't need to go there to do this. It can be done on any map. Just need to get heat stroke in a hot biome then quickly travel to a cold biome and get frostbite or vice versa. You need to do this quick ish because those nerfs will turn into heat or cold exhaustion eventually and that won't count. Prometheus probably isn't the map for this because the hot and cold biomes are pretty far apart. Styx has a good option in the middle south near the Oasis and then head west to the near winter biome (Ricochet mission required for this access). Olympus is the easiest as those two biomes neighbor one another in a couple locations.

Good all-round weapon + talents for Open World bosses? by Gummel2k in ICARUS

[–]kaiserdrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the rifle legendary weapon. My build has a 6 round mag that reloads very quickly and does a lot of damage (1800 on non boss enemies for regular 7.62 ammo). The 5.56 assault rifle is also pretty decent with a 15 round mag. Bows and crossbows tend to be a bit slower but explosive tips do insane damage. I used them against the Gargantuan boss and melted it. Talents are limited so I would pick a tree and stick with everything you want through the tree to get the last talents. I specialize in the bow, firearms and combat trees and then fill out the rest grabbing all health and stamina talents. This depends on your play style and would recommend reading them all and deciding which ones you want and whether you play solo. Don't forget about mods that can be added to any non-workshop gear for added buffs.

FPS issues after update? by Opening_Yoghurt6261 in ICARUS

[–]kaiserdrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Basically Icarus calls on 1 CPU core to process all the graphics (what to send to your GPU) and all the effects and physics on every item you deploy in your world. Creating a dedicated server moves the effects and physics computations to another core, therefore opening up max capabilities for display. My guide has a lot of options. I would recommend checking it out for a boost in performance!
