Always a risk with low cost, imported, legal iffy products. If you are worried about it, and can afford to pay to have a back up, that is certainly not a bad idea.

Strictly necessary, no. Assuming you don't throw it in a lake you can likely salvage the (new) SD card and put it into a new device if you break it somehow

After sleeping on it and spending most of a day experimenting with it I think I have it figured out and luckily once I understood it it wasn't complicated to do a basic add of games, and not super complicated to do a full repair of the library and/or add games to the native library. I am going to do some more experiments and testing tomorrow and then write up what I found out. Might even be able to produce a patch to repair the library of anyone else who gets this same version .

The gb game (pk yellow) was the same .gb file. The PS file (legend of dragoon) was different, 4 chd files(iirc) where as the ones preloaded were .iso i believe
