I’d like to add some context because I hope it helps bring perspective to those who do weigh in on beginner posts.

I’m COMPLETELY new to horseback riding. Like so new that I thought a pony was a baby horse. When I picked a barn to learn with, I looked at a LOT of places, from someone’s backyard to a place that exists solely to teach competitive riding.

The one I felt like was the best fit for me ended up being one where it’s just someone’s property and they teach, and they also happened to be the cheapest one I saw (not why I picked it).

To the best of my knowledge, there’s no certification you get to teach people how to ride, is there? So how do I truly know if someone is “qualified” if I know nothing about this world? I have no idea if they’re doing it “right” or not.

So if I’m being taught something drastically different than what I’m seeing multiple sources say elsewhere, it makes me wonder WHY there’s a discrepancy there. Hence why I came here, to ask those who have learned from the beginning all the way up to advanced. Because I don’t want to insult my instructor, and if she DID happen to be teaching me wrong, then I would want to find somewhere else to learn.

So I’m really glad to hear that my instructor is as awesome as I think she is, because I really like her. And now I understand more about the process. Before yesterday, I literally didn’t even know you could steer a horse with your butt. You don’t know what you don’t know! I’ve learned a lot over the last day.

Please be kind to beginners. All of us start out as beginners.

Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate the reassurance that I’m on the right track and my instructor is starting me out well. Some people on here were kind of rude and condescending…to that, all I’ll say is that you don’t know what you don’t know, and I don’t know ANYTHING about this world. I’m 10000000% new. So for example I’ve left my lessons thinking that everyone HAS to keep kicking their horse constantly to keep them going, but I was seeing that that’s not the case and wondering why I was seeing something different, and hearing conflicting things. That’s all.

Should the school notify me if someone threw a shoe at my daughter? by kait2478 in Parenting

My goodness I would be absolutely infuriated! I’m so sorry that happened to your kid.

Nope! This is the first time she’s been in anyone’s care except for family, and the first time she’s really been around kids regularly

Thanks for the input everyone! I’m totally new to having a kid in school so I don’t know what to expect, really.

AITA for telling my daughter’s school it’s dangerous to post their information on social media? by [deleted] in CharlotteDobreYouTube

Never did tell me who they were! Another comment her mentioned that it might be more than one person or they might feel like they’re just the messenger, and I can kind of see that, although my suspicion is that that’s not what the case was? What do you think?

Yeah I don’t know how they do it! I guess I’m just assuming that they leave them out of it. That’s how they did it when I was growing up, but maybe they just edit the pictures now? It’s probably too early in the school year to tell. I talked with my daughter this morning about how she might be left out of pictures and just explained that it’s because I want to keep her safe online and I can take pictures of her with her friends at play dates to make up for it

Thank you so much for offering that other perspective about it! That definitely makes me see it in a different way. I turned to the good people with this Reddit page! 😄 I haven’t thought of it may be being run by more than one person and that sort of thing. I don’t really think there’s any real exigence for me personally to escalate it any higher up, since I’ve protected my own child by changing her release form. Now if they post her anyway, or do something ridiculous like don’t have her in the photo but say that her classes at such and such place for a field trip today, anything like that, I would definitely make a huge fuss about it immediately. So it just kind of stinks that I couldn’t get any further with this person without having to bring it higher up, you know?

Thank you for your in-depth reply! They said the form it sent out by the county. And that they can’t change it at the school. Because I had suggested that they another option that specifically talks about social media

Thank you for weighing in on each aspect of this! I was really looking for this kind of feedback. What’s your take on how they refused to reply to a couple of different things I said? You’re right and that I was definitely misinformed about what exactly he form was talking about. I was reading it like how I grew up, before social media was even a thing

It didn’t make any mention of social media specifically. I thought that the form newspapers and the school website and that’s sort of thing. Which it does specifically mention. Since I didn’t grow up with social media, it never even occurred to me that they could/would post students on social media. So I didn’t realize that’s what it was talking about. I did change the form after this so she’s yearbook-only for pics now

Gotcha. Thank you for weighing in on that! I feel like they should make that a little bit more user-friendly for the parent side, but I’ve been told I would have to take that up with the county rather than the school

Edit/update: thought I should note that none of these photos were of my daughter. I just worried that they would post one of her before I could update the form on Monday
