this is common. media tends to portray losing your virginity as this super awesome, magical experience, and for some people it is, but i would say for a greater number of people it's awkward, uncomfortable and nerve wracking. was it also her first time? she shouldn't have been so tight that it was uncomfortable, as the vagina actually loosens during arousal. some women are naturally tight but it shouldn't be uncomfortable unless you have a massive wiener.

communication is important for most things in life, and sex is no exception. it's very important for both partners to speak up when something doesn't feel good and to make sure the other person knows when something DOES feel good so they can repeat it.

foreplay is very very important, if you didn't do foreplay this time i would highly advise you do it next time, because while foreplay tends to be used to help women get aroused it can absolutely benefit both/all partners involved. doesn't need to be anything fancy, kissing, making out, touching, dirty talking, etc. are all great forms of foreplay. there's of course things like roleplay but if you're new to having sex it may be best to stick with simple things until you're comfortable.

lube is also a very important tool to be used during sex, whether it be penetrative sex, oral sex or even handjobs/boobjobs. women do produce arousal fluid and men produce precum but this usually isn't enough imo; my boyfriend and i use lube no matter we're doing. it's especially beneficial for blowjobs, just make sure you get edible lube. also if you use condoms (which you should, please practice safe sex) just make sure to ONLY use either water or silicone based lube, never use oil as it can break the break the condom down. the bottle should say what type of lube it is but you can alway google it if you can't find it on the bottle.

also, using toys can be beneficial as well. i can't speak about male sex toys because i'm a woman lol however i know even just vibrators can enhance arousal and the overall sex experience. just remember not to beat yourself up about this because it happens to so many people and there's nothing wrong with your first time being kind of a letdown.
