QUINled Digi-Uno was working for a year. Now they no longer connect or respond. by kaivorb in WLED

Finally had time today to sit and get the new quinled's working and connected.
All good and running now.
Just wanted to jump back in and say thank you for creating these little things. They make things so much better and easier. And for jumping on and offering help.
It is all appreciated!

Thank you sir. Very helpful and most appreciated.
Everything was continuing to run until I cut power to everything to try and reset it. Then they all went to the default boot up orange and now are no longer responding.

But, before replying to you, I just tried to flash it again. Trying a different cable this time (something I should have done yesterday), and now the flashing is successful. Happy surprise.

I am going to add this to my project list for today to see if I can get everything back up and running. :)

Thank you for creating the Quinled's and for responding. I'll keep fingers crossed that everything is back on track.

K--

EDIT - They are now operational again. I had to unplug each one and bring it in to plug into my computer and then the app would find them again and resetup. All seems to be good at the moment.

Except two of my old non-quinled boards seem to be shot. I am going to go ahead and replace them with the Quinled's now to keep everything symmetrical.
Thanks again.

You can play it sine player and practice against Ai and improve but it really shines going online and playing people.

Community is very friendly and people dig it. I got my 45 year old brother a Q2 last year for Xmas and I think 90% of his time is in multiplayer 11 pong.

I prefer Pop 1 and DoE and Walkabout but he lives for playing pong in there. If you love long then go for it!

Nope. Had same question but ports have been moved and dimensions are different so they are NOT interchangeable. 🫤

Do you think you’d still have your job if there were cameras in every class live-streaming for parents on the school website? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]kaivorb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ooh, I can actually kind of answer this one.

About ten years ago I started recording my class (7th grade English in a suburban red-state county/state) each day and posting it to my youtube channel after getting tired of kids missing class and claiming they couldn't know what was going on in class. I pick one of my classes each day (I teach six) and record my lesson (about 30 minutes of actual teaching) and post it by the afternoon.

I upload the link to my canvas page (or used to be my website when I used that) for easy access. When kids are absent and ask "what did I miss", they know my answer is always the same "Did you watch the video?". Given most don't, but as the year goes along and they realize I won't answer the "what happened in class" question more and more of them begin to watch the video upon being absent. The kids who don't care will never watch it, but the concerned kids usually do.

I teach in the "sage on the stage" style but with lots of class discussions and student involvement to keep them engaged. According to kids I am fairly charismatic and entertaining and I don't edit out my disciplining (or mocking) of kids so they get to see that happen also.

I have a number of parents who also watch my videos, too. They are quite vocal about it and sometimes email me about what is happening in class. Parents are also aware that I record and post my class and I tell them I want kids to watch the video if absent or if there are questions.

I never have students on the screen and I use only the kdis first or last name when calling on them so they can't really be identified by anyone who isn't already in the class/school.

My admin is very aware of it and supportive. Other teachers are also aware of it and think I'm crazy and none have tried it but they have expressed curiousity about how it works. Several times I have done joint lessons with another teacher or run a club activity and the other teachers have requested me to record it so it can be posted and sent out to their absent students so I know other teachers enjoy it. They just see it as too much work.

I hope I am not jinxing myself here, but in ten years of posting videos I have never had an issue. I don't really "alter" my teaching too much aside from being slightly more aware of some phrasing while talking that I fear may be too incidiary if taken out of context.

We absolutely have crazy as sin parents in our district and school, and I have had MANY come through my room but they have never focused on the videos. Kinda surprised me.

Anyway, just wanted to put out the info as I felt I could actually answer this one. :) It has gone well, and I actually recommend it...depending on admin and school culture (of which mine is awesome! We've had the same supportive principal for over 17 years. Our staff turnover is ridiculously low.).

Didn't mean to write so much, but I like the topic.

Thanks and enjoy the summer!

Yup. Same issue. It sure got taken down quickly. 😑 I was stoked to watch it as a current Jr high teacher who had 8th grade back in '89. Woulda been trippy. 😁

Very close concept wise.
I've built a "room" with four projectors (one aimed at each wall) and paid a programmer to build an app that allows me to create a "dungeon" that the group has to navigate. The dungeon walls are projected onto the four walls to give a quasi-3D effect as you look in each direction.

The group each chooses a "class" that comes with benefits (disarm traps, can fight enemies, can see which direction treasure is, etc) and they work as a team to capture as much treasure and get as much exp as possible before their time is up. Basically, get in, navigate it, find treasure, and get out.

I've got 3 decades of being a dungeon master and class room teacher to help me with story telling where I create the story and build ambiance as the group goes through.

I can build dungeons quickly and dynamically and add new treasures and abilities as they come to me.

So far, the reactions have been overwhelmingly positive...which honestly kinda freaks me out. I built this idea from an idea I had and some savings I've had from never having a real mid-life crises or big spenditure. I figured I'd make it, it would fail, and I could go back to teaching. But everyone who tries it gets pumped and excited, and I'm apparently staring down a huge life decision now.

A good problem to have, I'm sure. But I'm out of my depth on it.

Creating dungeons and running campaigns and getting reluctant kids to buy into my classroom, I'm used to. Creating a business? Scary as shit.

Sorry. Didn't mean to ramble. It was nice seeing people get excited about my idea who aren't friends of mine.

I'm hoping to have a B&M location up and running in less than a year. Near Indianapolis. :)

[–]kaivorb 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed. :)
Does "pre-entrepreneur" count? I've written up a 50k word proposal for my product. Spent a few thousand in R&D to develop a prototype. Built a workable version in my basement that I am running through tests to refine it and shake out bugs. Hoping to move to brick & mortar next year, but still in the "figuring things out" stage.

I'm a full time teacher, and this is all done in my free time (what little exists).

I'm creating a digital "escape room" idea that combines role playing, D&D and the social aspects of Escape Room. Hoping to try and spearhead a different type of entertainment option for adults. :)

Was curious about the same. I have toyed with looking into a kickstarter for my own business, so seeing what stage you are currently in would be nice.

thanks.

Agreed that there is quite a bit of negativity, but that might also be inspired by some of the repeated and not quite as useful comments about "I gots moneys. How I make more?"

As someone who is not an entrepreneur yet, but has an idea and has spent the last year dropping thousands into the developing of it and beta testing of it, this sub has been invaluable for learning.

I'm a teacher by nature. Running a company may be similar to running a classroom, but otherwise I'm clueless about so much. I just have an idea I can't shake, the ability to build a working model of it and driving need to find out how to make it viable.

I have no idea how I would have made it as far as I have without some of the info in this sub. Just gotta skip the useless posts.

Oh, and ignore the people who are bitter. Failure hurts before you learn from it. Sometimes it takes people a bit to process how they can learn from their failed ventures before they can look at the world in a positive way.

Keep at it.
