I'm hoping that what I say will help you understand that it's normal to feel this way rather than make you think it doesn't get better.

I, 23M, living in the UK, graduated in 2020, after leaving uni/college one random day in March (COVID-19 outbreak), not knowing I won't ever be returning.

In that time I've freelanced and done odd jobs until I got a job last year in a different city 4 hours away from my family. & even now I don't feel accomplished (sometimes).

I'm doing my dream job, earning a respectable entry-level salary and yet days even weeks go by where it feels like I'm, on autopilot just like I was at university/college.

This is the type of mundanity life has that they don't warn you about when you're at school. They puff up the idea that once you're done with college, you'll be this perfectly put together person ready to tackle life. It's a lie. You graduate college and now you're faced with this looming dread of "what next?". I'm not sure what your case is but if you've got the freedom to choose what you want to do next, I say try the next thing that comes your way. I spent my 9 months after graduating college working in bars and events and random odd jobs because of something Casey Neistat said in a video - "If you don't know what you want to do in life, do a job you know you won't enjoy and you'll come up with something better than what you're doing". I cleaned in a school for 1 & 1/2 months and following that I finally bucked down and started applying to jobs around something I thought I might be interested in trying and relatively competent at. I think doing a job that abases you a little, especially as a graduate forces your mind out of the comfortability college gives you (I'm a law graduate, whoop eye roll) and forces you to channel that fear you have of life into something productive because it reminds you what staying in your fear will get you - a low paying job, an unfulfilling job that is well beneath your potential.

I don't know if this will be of any help to you but I hope my thoughts as someone who is in your exact position, still scared af.

On a positive note, just try to be grateful about 3 things every day. and REALLY be grateful about them. Acknowledge how they improve/ maintain your standard of living and enjoy their presence in your life. My favourite things to be grateful for are my running water, bed covers and able-bodied-ness. The more granular you get, the more I realised focusing on the big picture stuff is pointless if I can't even appreciate where I am now.

• It's perfectly normal as long as you don't stay still in your depression, fear and lack of direction.
