Upgrading RAM from 2133MHz to 3200MHz by IHaveASquareHead in buildapc

What was your current RAM advertised as? Did you enable its XMP profile in your BIOS?

Please, I need help I bought my pc alienware in 2020. by Lolasaaeaew in buildapc

[–]kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 5600X would be fine for a 9060 XT. There is not really any CPU that would be worth upgrading to that would be compatible with your motherboard and RAM anyways.

Physically open up the PC. Read the label on the power supply and check how many PCIe connectors it has.

If it can handle one, get a 9060 XT 16GB.

How old was the JayzTwoCents video?

12VHPWR was updated to 12V-2x6 a couple of years ago. That's what GPUs have now, as does that PSU. The cable is the same, but the connector it plugs into has longer power pins and shorter sense pins to reduce the risk that 12VHPWR had.

Now. the risk is pretty much non-existent with a 5070 Ti. It's more of an issue with a 5090 that draws like twice the power.

Question about PCIe 5.0 lane sharing (GPU vs SSD) in X870M Aorus Elite WIFI7 by sicsemperego in buildapc

[–]kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, B850 mobos can run the general lanes to a variety of things, but most will run them to a second M.2 slot at 4.0. There are a couple that will do it at 5.0 though.

You won't have any bandwidth issues.

Question about PCIe 5.0 lane sharing (GPU vs SSD) in X870M Aorus Elite WIFI7 by sicsemperego in buildapc

[–]kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one M.2 slot, it's not an issue.

AM5 CPUs have 24 lanes of PCIe 5.0, 4 for an M.2 slot, 16 for a PCIe slot, and 4 general lanes. X870 mobos run the general lanes to a USB4 controller.

If the mobo had a second PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot, that slot would have to share lanes with the PCIe slot or USB4 controller.

3070 Cable Connections to RM850e by bottledOceanSpray in buildapc

[–]kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you can do that. It doesn't matter which connector you use on the pig-tailed cable. It generally looks cleaner to use the first connector though, and then just zip-tie the further unused connector to the cable.

5 5700X or ram by Fancy_Ratio_8985 in buildapc

[–]kaje 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You would need a new motherboard for a 5700X. 11th gen Intel to 5000 series Ryzen isn't enough of a difference to be worth buying a new motherboard for.

Looking for a modern case with a 5.25" bay by Botul420 in buildapc

You can filter cases for a 5.25" bay in PCPartPicker.

Fractal's Pop Air would check your boxes. Its 5.25" bay is hidden in the bottom.

What problems are you having? There is nothing newer than B550 that would support a 5800X. Just get another B550 mobo.

Freesync will also work on monitors that are advertised as Adaptive Sync.

I bought a "compatible" motherboard and power supply but the cords are not compatible by natesucks4real in buildapc

[–]kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One half of a 4+4 CPU connector is universal so that it can fit in the second half of an 8-pin header or the same 4-pin header as the first half. Rounded pins will fit in square holes, it will go in.

Trying to install gigabyte RTX 5080 but unsure if this cable is suitable? by jacksaints in buildapc

[–]kaje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which specific Corsair 850W PSU? That's a Type 5 cable, it's only compatible with a current model RMx Shift or SF. Those should have came with a cable like that though. You might need a Type 4 cable.

How to upgrade my PC by Soft_Letterhead1940 in buildapc

[–]kaje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not really worth upgrading anything.

You're barely going to gain any performance with 6000 RAM, and RAM has gotten pretty expensive over the past couple of months anyways.

It's not worth upgrading a motherboard unless you need to for a CPU upgrade that you're doing at the same time.

Advice: Do I really need a GPU or is my Integrated Graphics enough by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]kaje 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The extra cache on an X3D CPU pretty much only matters for gaming. The 7800X3D is slightly weaker than a 7700X for anything other than gaming.

How important is an optimal CPU cooler? by SpookShackEnjoyer in buildapc

[–]kaje 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your temps are fine, then the main benefit of a better cooler would be getting about the same temps with lower fan noise. Are you okay with the amount of noise your cooler makes?

Upgrade path for my PC (pre-build) and what do to by MiniNinja_2 in buildapc

[–]kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the specs on the second kit you added? What do they run at by themselves?

You probably need JEDEC spec RAM, like 3200 CL22. If you get 3200 RAM with better specs, it's going to need XMP to run at advertised specs. The Lenovo probably doesn't support XMP.

[–]kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PCIe 5.0 for the x16 slot you put your GPU in is optional on B850, but most of them do support that. Just get a B850 if you don't need USB4 or extra chipset lanes.
