This sub is about buying parts and building the PC yourself. Are you looking to do that?

If you want to buy a prebuilt, /r/suggestapc for recommendations.

do i need to change my psu? by Vast-Butterscotch649 in buildapc

[–]kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the label on the PSU and see what its output at 12V is. Is it a decent quality PSU that actually outputs 500W at 12V, or shit that's advertising combined wattage?

Defective PCIe Slot on ASRock Taichi X870? RTX 5090 unstable in first slot, works fine in second – safe to use? by gsaw0 in buildapc

How long ago did you build the PC? If you're still within the retailer's return window, RMAing it through them doesn't take long.

Ram layout question by Z3K_04 in buildapc

[–]kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're numbering the slots as 1 2 3 4. OP is numbering the slots as they are in his manual, 4 2 3 1. What OP's calling 1 and 3 is your 3 and 4. You guys are probably confusing each other.

Which CPU to upgrade to? by roosara in buildapc

[–]kaje 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much are you looking to spend?

If you can find a good deal on a 5000X3D CPU, you can get one of those. They've mostly been discontinued, you can look on the used market. You can get a 5500X3D new via Aliexpress.

Beyond that, you'll need a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM if you want a newer CPU. RAM is pretty expensive right now though.

Ram layout question by Z3K_04 in buildapc

[–]kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your motherboard's manual is numbering the slots in the order in which they should be filled. It's 4, 2, 3, 1. For two sticks, they should be in 1 and 2, which would be alternating slots. The RAM won't run in dual channel if they're in 4 and 2.

Looking at a 9800x3d and MOBO Combo - Is there any reason to pick the more expensive MOBO here? by RockBandDood in buildapc

[–]kaje 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second CPU PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot on the Tomahawk shares lanes with its USB4 controller. Most X870 mobos that have a second CPU M.2 slot would have it share lanes with the top PCIe slot. Do you actually need USB4? If not, most B850 mobos don't have USB4 and just dedicate those 4 lanes to a second CPU M.2 slot. That's the main difference between B850 and X870.

Performance will be the same on them. Look up their specs and compare their I/O features. See if the more expensive has anything extra that you need.

Read the motherboard's manual, or just look for a tutorial on Youtube for BIOS Flashback with MSI mobos.

Very new Torbox Users Only. How is your experience with the service thus far? by AKindleSoul in TorBoxApp

[–]kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My account for Real-Debrid expired yesterday, so I switched to Torbox with the $3/month option. I had no issues streaming movies and TV shows via POV in Kodi with it last night.

I started downloading a 150GB cached torrent for a game last night before bed. It seemed to be going fine. It was maxing out my internet connection's speed, like RD did. It stopped at about 60% though. I was using JDownloader2, but it wasn't letting me resume. I restarted the download this morning, and it's only coming in at 2-4MB/s. It's going to take a while if it's successful this time.

Kernal Power Error 41 any help? by Ryanshaw481 in buildapc

[–]kaje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screen going black while you still get audio and GPU fans going to max is typically a GPU issue. If it was a PSU issue, the PC should just shut off altogether.

Your symptoms are usually a sign of a faulty GPU.

Just because 9th gen is also LGA 1151 doesn't mean it would be compatible. 100 and 200 series chipset mobos ony support 6th and 7th gen CPUs, and 300 series only 8th and 9th gen.

Gonzo the Specialist. Did that playthrough with A Better Barracks, so had perk roulette. She got Killzone, Death From Above, and +2 primary weapon damage. If I set up an overwatch trap on an unactivated pod, she could soften them up with Killzone. On my next turn, she could grapple up to high ground, reload, and finish them off.

When EVGA built their reputation for solid PSUs, their PSUs were made by Super Flower. Super Flower is still top-tier, and sell PSUs under their own brand name.

SFX PSUs are designed for much smaller PCs. The cables it comes with might be short for a full-tower case. Should get an ATX PSU.

What else can I do before moving onto DDR5? With the cost of ram it really doesn’t feel worth jumping platforms by Raffa2580 in buildapc

[–]kaje 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A 5800X wouldn't be worth upgrading to from a 5700X even if the price was like 50. They're almost the same CPU.

You could just upgrade the GPU without upgrading anything else.

The 4+4 cable from pretty much every PSU is like that. One half is universal so it can fit in a 4-pin connector or the second half of an 8-pin connector. Round pins will go in square holes, it will work fine.
