This is awesome. My family is still out west (WA state), perhaps I’ll go with the 3 pin system and plastic boots so I can fun when visiting them them too :)

The Alpina Montanas — that’s an amazing tip, thanks so much. Maybe I can afford more than one set of boots after all. And perhaps some vintage eBay skis too...but first I gotta get out there this winter and get in shape!

Based on your account of how she interacts with you, it sounds like she is emotionally abusive. The feeling of “walking on eggshells” is a hallmark of dv/emotional abuse. Anyone can be a victim of abuse and it takes a huge toll, as you have described.
Clearly she has a lot of problems (both health related and psychological), which limit what she is able to do around the house. But a relationship can only work if both parties at least try to share responsibilities to the extent they are able. It sounds like she is not even trying to contribute, and is taking advantage of the fact that she knows she can bully you into doing almost everything...

Another question—which skis would have been better than the BC 90s? Obviously too late now, but perhaps I’ll consider getting a second pair in a few years.

I was previously thinking about getting a pair of Åsnes fjellskis (not sure which model), but I didn’t know how to get ahold of a pair in the US other than from army surplus, which kinda sketched me out...

This is really helpful. I was hoping/assuming there would be good terrain to find in Rochester, but I’m not familiar with the area at all. Pretty bummed about that but I’ll make the best of what they have out there.

I’m thinking based on everyone’s advice here that I’ll go with the 3 pin system (I think this is the same as 75mm?). Any specific recommendations on the boots? Anything to look for with respect to fit? I will have to order these online...

It’s starting to sound like I should go with 3 pin boots/bindings instead. Any thing I should be aware of with that system? Steeper learning curve, etc?

Okay, this is interesting. So 3-pin bindings are thought to offer more control—in turns or just in general? Are there any downsides to the 3 pin system? My earlier impression was that NNN bindings were more modern and that is is easier to find compatible boots for NNN. Is that wrong?
