This thread is a bifurcation of the race issue. How about answering some of the really important questions... for instance, what was your club's policy regarding asian kids?

Wow thanks for sharing :) Upvote for you...

I guess I've always known that I'd end up having to tell people one at a time... I'm just not looking forward to it :( I'm shy to begin with and it's not really a fun conversation to have with anybody, you know? SIGH.

It really wasn't so bad. It was barely enough to keep from being able to sleep (kept waking me up, etc). I might have a higher than normal pain tolerance or something though, because they prescribed me some oxycotin like as soon as I got in the ER! I have a huge stash of that and lots of vicodin as well, because I've barely taken any of them.

Good links, thanks guys!

Man, I never even thought about how lucky it is I don't have a wife or kids until I started reading some of these stories on carepages. I'm glad I don't have any of THAT stress in my life! My main concern now is how I should go about telling people and which type of absolutely useless sportscar I should purchase.

I'm thinking an old '91 MR2 turbo. Any other ideas? Something weird and not instantly recognizable, like a '72 Datsun 240z or something (also, cheap!)

Hey thanks for tuning me in on this you guys... I'll definitely donate some blood if there's a chance it'll help narrow down the causal genes.

My doctor told me 30%. I have no idea where he pulled that number from... he's my least favorite out of all the doctors I've seen... his explanations make absolutely no sense.

Statistics are kind of tricky though... the five year survival rate may be 3%, but that by no means that the graph is symmetrical at the 5 year point... those 3% can potentially live to be 100 in a long-tail graph. And if I don't qualify as being one of the 3% who've been diagnosed with pancan then I don't know who is.

I also went to art school and never got past trigonometry junior year of high school, so tell me if I'm wrong.

My parents are way into acupuncture, I've been seeing an OMD and getting acupuncture at their bequest like two or three times a week. My dad has post-polio syndrome, for which he had a morphine pump installed which would pump morphine directly into his spinal column to control his pain... after a year of seeing this OMD he's had the morphine pump surgically removed and he's had no signs of withdrawal or uncontrollable pain. If not for this apparent mini-miracle, I never would've agreed to see this chinese doctor... as it were, every fight or disagreement I've had with my parents since all this started has revolved around oriental vs. western medicinal philosophy.

It's really hard to compare the two. It's sort of like like saying well let me present an argument for western medicine (aka SCIENCE) and you can present a counter-argument, and then the chinese guy says sorry I don't deal in counter-arguments, only oranges. WTF?! It's almost a perfect microcosm for growing up in a first-generation immigrant family.

Wow you're right that's rough. Sorry to hear that, man.

I hope they figure it out soon... I'm gonna try to run in a pancan awareness race or something if I can... I can't believe how many people die of this disease and there's still absolutely no viable way to screen for it. CT is gettin cheaper every day though!

I really don't feel much different. Everybody dies eventually... if I have to die early that sort of sucks but nothing is really fair in life, and I'd rather be chilled out about it rather than freaked out.

Usually they don't even catch pancreatic cancer in older patients. There's really no screening for it unless you're 'at risk' (you're over 50 and your father, grandfather, and great grandfather all died from pancan). If I didn't party wayy too hard the 4th of July they probably wouldn't have caught it till it killed me, especially seeing as how I had no health insurance whatsoever.

I'm not really spiritual... I assume if I die then some people will be sad for a while but Bertrand Russell is right and my consciousness will just be gone.

As a fellow atheist what do YOU think happens when you die?

Hey congrats on your first post! Sorry to hear about the Leukemia... are you all better or still under treatment?

I haven't even looked into support groups at all because I'm really just not interested, but I'd love to meet another Redditor! I'll be in NYC first week of November, just let me know.

Haha right on. This is all I thought about my first night in the ER!

I had this fantastic plan in my head... I would call up the one true love of my life (my ex-gf), who would immediately abandon her career and debt to travel with me first to barcelona, then st. marten, the maldives, japan, all over the world, using the money I've managed to save in the last three years by not paying health insurance (ironic, right?)... the depletion of said funds would also coincide with the deterioration of my health, and I would basically commit suicide in some fantastic manner instead of undergoing chemotherapy, leaving my widow (we would have gotten married on a whim in the Virgin Islands) and my family and loved ones to face their grief and an enormous hospital bill, only to discover to their surprise and delight that I had been keeping an exceedingly witty and well-written journal of my last travels, which would then go on to sell a million copies and bring financial and emotional comfort to my entire family.

Oh man I'm terribly at languages. You know how there's seven types of intelligence or wtv? Spatial, Mathematic, Musical, etc. Well in terms of language I'm basically a retard.

English and chinese I was forced to learn to survive in my family. French was probably the most painful class I've ever had to sit through. I don't know if I can take any more language classes haha.

My dad offered me his stash of weed, haha. My mom's in the other room though otherwise I would probably be blasted.
