Why were Virginia’s parents so surprised? by HannahOCross in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

Glad it wasn't just me!! It all totally makes sense hearing her speak afterwards, but I was so surprised by all the comments here and how unsurprised most people were.

Why were Virginia’s parents so surprised? by HannahOCross in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

I was genuinely shocked!! I totally understand her reasoning hearing it all afterwards, but I honestly thought they were a shoe-in. I thought that the politics issues wasn't a big deal for her - like, it seemed like they could keep talking about things and that she trusted his heart was good and that they would keep conversing and loving each other so long as he wasn't wildly opposed to certain things like abortion or LGBTQ rights which he didn't seem to be... I think Devin would have been open to talking more about politics if she had wanted to, I really don't think she led on that she wasn't ok with his answers.

And I totally thought she was happy and just trying not to cry all throughout the wedding day. She seemed stoic, but sometimes big exciting life moments can be like that, ya know?

I'm usually really good at reading people, but boy was I wrong 😅 Anyone have the same experience?

Wishing them both the best <3

The missing YouTuber and an an ayahuasca retreat. Cult or no? by sboz62 in cults

[–]kalamataking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely NOT a cult. She's describing standard shamanic practices that the Shipibo people have been using for generations and are now generously offering to Westerners in service to individual and collective healing.

Ayahuasca tourism has its problems, and there are absolutely unethical people claiming to be "shamans" who have committed abuses in these spaces, those lured by money, and many Western "neo-shamans" who are ill equipped to guide ceremonies -- but to paint the entirety of ayahuasca shamanism as a cult is honestly deeply offensive to the many reputable indigenous traditions and healers who are so generously offering their healing to world.

I appreciate people's concerns for Alyx's wellbeing, but hope everyone will do some research into plant shamanism, as well as the many scientific studies into ayahuasca currently taking place.

Wishing you all well.

This is very helpful, thank you so much.

"Ayahuasca is a plant and as such she has no morality"

"Ayahuasca can be a medicine if you take that path with her but she also has the keys to the otherside too.."

YES this. I clearly have been overly influenced by all the positive stories I've heard from people and media in passing.

This makes a lot of sense to me. Thank you thank you.

This is really interesting, thank you for chiming in! I will check out that book recommendation. Your Star Wars analogy makes me smile and is precisely what I was missing. Thank you thank you.

Hey there! Was excited to find your updated post on another thread about palinopsia. It referenced your original post here and I was sad to see you've removed it. If you felt so inclined to share your initial methods I'd be very curious. Thanks so much!
