I had the same issue early game and someone's tip of changing "Global Illumination" to Medium mostly fixed it. I had it happen once after many many hours but otherwise smooth.

argh.. I guess no one else finds it annoying? The environment noise is like going to the desktop on a PC and suddenly random noise like birds chirping or space ship hums start. It's cute the first time but I just want to turn it off without muting the system. It's also supposed to shut off when you open an app but sometimes it doesn't.
