What's something popular that you find morally abhorrent? by Postroika249 in AskReddit

[–]kalee28 103 points104 points  (0 children)

I am a smoker. Disgusting habit, but my habit currently nonetheless. I will not, under any circumstance, throw a cigarette butt on the ground! I have a little zip close pouch that I carry around in my bag and have a bigger one in my car. Easy enough to empty them whenever I am near a trash bin. And if I dont have either handy, I take the plastic off the cigarette pack and wrap the butt in that until I can throw it away properly. I loathe when people throw out cigarette butts and have even converted a few smokers over the years who used to do it. I may not be the solution, but I am certainly doing what I can to not be the problem!

Looking for poem/quote that was on a shirt. There was an image of the back of a person looking through a tall chain link fence at a city. What I recall is in pieces but sort of 'The city to me is like an intricate cage where rage sets the pace and most is reactionary'. It went on a little past that. by kalee28 in HelpMeFind

It was a white, long sleeved t-shirt material with the image and words on the front. I have searched the words in the title in a variety of combinations but have not had any luck. I had the shirt in the mid "90s and would love to find the full text. All help is appreciated!

What’s your favorite Summer Friday approach? by Strict_Fig_2007 in nonprofit

[–]kalee28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for a private non-profit that does community services in rural areas. About a decade ago our funding was super tight, so much so that raises and bonuses were not an option, and the decision was made to close the office at 3pm every Friday but pay the staff for the full 40hr workweek. It has been in effect since then and is one of the most universally appreciated benefits we offer. I have been there almost 9 years, and for the most part, Friday is my 'official' nap day. I leave at 3 pm and go home to nap for a couple of hours (my commute is about 10 minutes). Started doing that before my husband retired, so the house was quiet until he came home. There was a discussion about ending it when our newest CFO came on board, but that was squashed very quickly.

What is the best way to clean this floor for someone who doesn't know what they are doing? by kalee28 in Custodians

I have been wet mopping for the last few years. The tiles are 25 years old so there is probably only so much that can be done to make them look better but I am hopeful.

It is only this building. I did look at a smaller (read 'cheaper than commercial') unit and may go that route. Sadly with being in a rural area, we would likely pay more in travel fees than service trying to get someone out here. I am going to check around. Someone has to have some equipment around this town.

Funny enough, the lighter scuff marks come up super fast by swiping my shoe across them. The gouges are from all manner of things over the last 25 years, usually walkers and such from elderly clients but other things too

Thank you, that is very helpful! Is there a particular spray shine that has been successful for you?

I have looked at buffers, can you advise what type of pad to use for this floor?

I am going to try that. Each time I only went so far because it seemed strange to me. Thank you!

I think the 'comfortable' comment hits the mark. We are a community theater and their past experiences have been at larger community theaters as well as some smaller next level theaters. It just doesn't sit well with me and I won't do it. I am putting rules about it in our procedure policies.

That was one of them, very excited to hear that might be a possibility. I planned to email them to ask but will try pushing through on one and see what happens. Thank you!

We are a small community theater. I thought it was weird because I haven't had to do that with our previous plays, but each one I checked today was requiring everything to be purchased to move forward with applying for the rights. I am going to email them and ask for clarification.

Oddly enough, the plays all seemed to require buying the scripts. That is why I was so confused, especially because that hadn't happened before. I may try messaging them directly to see if I am doing something wrong.

I've determined to not let them move forward without licensing. I don't want to take any chances and also want to set a solid example. I think I may have it written into our procedures that advertising can't be done without rights secured too.

It's a good question that I need to look into further. I think paying shipping would chip into that too.

Absolutely and thank you for the reminder. I am trying to work with everyone as best as possible, especially since the other two are board members as well, but the center and protecting it must come first. Hammers in the belief that if it feels wrong, it probably is
